The knives have never been sharper

Knife sharpening
The blades could not have been sharpened any better with a cost-effective approach as noted below: 1. 5 Knives x $4.50/knife = $22.50 2. 2 Serrated knives x $6.00/knife = $12.00 3. 1 Lopping Shear x $10.00 = #10.00 4. 1 Hedge Shear x $10.00 = $10.00 5. 6 Pruning Shear x $8.00/shear = $48.00 6. 1 Electric Shear x $10.00/Shear = $10.00 7. 4 Scissors x $7.00/scissor = $28.00 Total: ~ $141 I am very happy with the service the Siraco brothers provided. I been back a second time and I plan to bring my tow, very dull, lawn mower blades for sharpening. I highly recommend Siraco Sharpening. Location is easy to find in Sommerville. I drove from Bedford to 61 Albion Street office..., used GPS..., took me 20 - 25 minutes.

Knives were very sharp. They were returned wrapped in newspaper so that you wouldn't get cut. No problems.

Knife sharpening
I dropped the knives off at Tag's Hardware in Porter Square on Tuesday afternoon (missed the noon cut off) and picked them up the following Wednesday. (They were ready Tuesday, but I couldn't get there.) Siraco has sharpened these knives before and I continue to be very pleased with their quality. Price is also better than another operation I've seen. I read on AL that another person reported that their cardboard sleeves did not come back with the knives. Mine did, so maybe they've been tipped off to return them now. I wish they had one more pick up/drop off date so I could get the knives back sooner. I found myself slicing apples for two pies with a 10" carving knife!

Siraco's store is no longer open to the public, they contract with a Hardware in Somerville to handle pickups and drop-offs at noon on Tuesday and Friday. They also will do same day sharpening in their truck occasionally on Saturdays at a farmer's market. Current information can be had at their web site, or by calling them. We met them at their truck. They expedited our order, charged very reasonable prices, were very friendly, and the knives are all repaired and very sharp. Only strange thing was we created paper sleeves for the knives which we handed to them, and they returned the knives in old newsprint.

A fantastic sharpening job at a great price. I dropped it off at The Fabric Corner in Arlington. They do pick up/drop off every Tuesday and Friday at that location. I will absolutely use them again. I have used several different knife sharpeners around Boston (knife speciality shops as well as kitchen supply shops) and no one has come close to their quality.

Knife sharpening
When I called I learned that this company no longer has a storefront but has arranged a drop off/pick up service at a local hardware store, TAGS in Porter Square Cambridge. The store was efficient in accepting the mower and I was able to use a credit card to pay. I did have to wait a few days longer for its return than I was originally told. But the work was great - my son is no longer complaining about the lawnmower!

This is a very small, family company. Knives were ready on the day promised. The cost was reasonable. The knives cut great, and we will not wait as long next time to get them re-sharpened. Siraco does quality work.

Knife sharpening
Siraco did an excellent job sharpening my knives. The knives had to be left there for 4 or 5 days. I'm rating them B, not because of quality, but because of convenience. They are located off a busy Somerville street where parking can be difficult at times. The shop is a little dump, and I know that I'm being fussy, but I feel that a little better care is needed when customers use a shop.

Knife sharpening
AFTER I TOLD A FRIEND ABOUT HAVING MY FAVORITE KNIVES SHARPENED THERE, SHE ASKED ME TO TAKE IN HERS. THE RUSTY SCISSORS WERE MINE AND THERE WAS ALSO A GAP BETWEEN THE TWO SIDES. SIRACO CLEANED AND SHARPENED THEM AND TIGHTENED THE SPACE UP SO THEY ARE TRUE AGAIN. THESE BELONGED TO MY GRANDMOTHER AND WERE WORTH FIXING. ONE OF MY FRIEND'S KNIVES WAS FROM A COUPLE OF GENERATIONS AGO AND HAD A BENT TIP. THE MAN TAKING IN THE KNIFE NOTIFIED ME THAT SOMETIMES THE TIP CAN BREAK IF THEY TRY TO FLATEN IT OUT. IT TURNED OUT NOT TO BREAK, BUT THEY WERE UP FRONT ABOUT THIS POSSIBILITY AND GAVE ME THE CHOICE ABOUT WHAT TO DO. HE COULD HAVE SHARPENED IT AND LEFT IT BENT, IF THAT'S WHAT I/SHE WANTED.

JOB 1: OLD FASHIONED WORKSHOP ON CORNER OF MEDFORD AND BROADWAY IN SOMERVILLE. THEY WERE FRIENDLY AND GAVE THOUGHTFUL ADVICE ON CARING FOR THE KNIVES WHEN I BROUGHT THEM IN. UPON UNWRAPPING THEM TO PUT AWAY AT HOME, I FOUND THAT THE BLADE OF MY GRANDMOTHER'S PARING KNIFE WAS NOT ONLY SHARP, BUT BEAUTIFULLY CLEANED, TOO. IT BROUGHT TEARS TO MY EYES. THE OTHER KNIVES ALSO RECEIVED THOUGHTFUL ATTENTION. I WOULD GO OUT OF MY WAY TO USE THEM AGAIN. I GIVE THEM A 'B' IN PROFESSIONALISM ONLY TO NOTE THAT THE SHOP IS RIGHTFULLY (NOT OFFENSIVELY) DIRTY, DUE TO OILS AND NEWSPAPERS REQUIRED IN BUSINESS. OTHER ASPECTS OF PROFESSIONALISM ARE WORTHY OF AN 'A' GRADE. JOB 2: SIRACO CLEANED AND SHARPENED THEM AND TIGHTENED THE SPACE UP SO THEY ARE TRUE AGAIN. THESE BELONGED TO MY GRANDMOTHER AND WERE WORTH FIXING.

THEY WERE AMAZING BOTH IN SERVICE AND IN PRICE. YOU CAN'T GET ANYONE TO DO THIS KIND OF WORK ANYMORE. VERY REASONABLE. TAKES ABOUT A WEEK. DON'T EXPECT 'INSTANT' SERVICE (I.E. ONE HOUR SERVICE). THE PLACE ITSELF IS FASCINATING WITH OLD TOOLS AND ANCIENT IMPLEMENTS COMICALLY DISPLAYED ON THE WALLS AND FLOORS. 'OLD' SOMERVILLE AT ITS BEST. THEY DON'T DO GAS LAWNMOWERS. THEY DO ELECTRIC AND HAND-PUSHED LAWNMOWERS.

EVERYONE WAS VERY NICE AND I WAS IMPRESSED WITH THEIR ABILITY TO CORRECTLY SHARPEN ANYTHING. THEY EVEN CALLED TO LET ME KNOW THEY WERE RUNNING A BIT BEHIND AND MY MOWER WOULDN'T BE FINISHED UNTIL 2 PM ON THE DATE PROMISED (HAD SAID WOULD BE FINISHED BY 10 AM). IT TOOK A WEEK, BUT THIS WAS IN MAY, THE BUSY SEASON. I WOULD RECOMMEND THEM TO ANYONE. THEY ALSO CUT DUPLICATE KEYS. PRICES ARE VERY REASONABLE AND THEY SHARPEN REEL MOWERS, VERY DIFFICULT TO FIND SERVICE FOR THIS TYPE OF MOWER.
