FERNANDO APPLIANCE CO

One morning I checked my washing machine and found it overflowing with suds and though it was at the end of the cycle the tub hadn't drained. I called Fernando and got a call back that evening. He couldn't give me a specific time but agreed to come by the following day. He showed up mid-morning and was here for about an hour and a half. He diagnosed the problem and pointed out some rust on the washer housing caused by a small, long-term leak. The leak caused a clamp to rust and fail, which decoupled the motor from the water pump. He said it would cost $106 to repair but recommended I buy a new washer because of the rust and age of the machine. I told him to go ahead with the repair -- for just over $100 it was worth it to me to be able to shop for one at my leisure. Everything got fixed and I've done a number of loads of laundry since. Fernando is awesome. I first used him over 20 years ago when I was working as a property manager, and he still can't be beat on the quality and value of his service. Now that only have my own appliances to repair I only seem him every couple of years, but he's the only one to call. I have a two-family house with a rental unit and in the past ten or twelve years he has fixed one washer twice, another washer once, a dryer, two dishwashers and a refrigerator. All the appliances were bought in the 80's or 90's and he has kept them working well. I've never had to call him back for the same problem, and the repair costs were about half of what I see my friends paying for similar repairs. Fernando is old-school: honest to a fault, extremely meticulous and organized, and operates his repair business from his house. He only serves one or maybe two towns away from Somerville, where he lives. He also doesn't repair front-loading washers. Unfortunately when he came for this repair he told me he will be retiring in 6 months or so! Still, if you need an appliance repaired before Spring of 2011 I would highly recommend him.

Fernando responded quickly to my phone call, said when he would have time, had time when he said he would, arrived when he said he would. Fernando diagnosed the problem quickly and had the necessary part in his vehicle. He cleaned the exhaust vent also - all for $61, including the part! We have used Fernando in the past and absolutely will call him again when we need an appliance repaired.

Fernando was very knowledgeable about large appliances, and he only replaced parts that needed replacing. He also cleaned the very dusty lint exhaust tube, which was part of the very reasonable service charge. I will certainly call him again.

Fernando was able to come right away. The $65.00 charge included parts and labor which seemed like a good deal. He had the parts in his truck so that saved time and, no doubt, money. He was polite and professional and our dishwasher has been fine ever since.

THIS IS THE GUY TO GO TO IF YOU HAVE A MACHINE THAT DOESN'T WORK -- DISHWASHER, WASHER, DRYER. HE KNOWS THE MACHINES, HE KNOWS HOW TO FIX THEM AND HE DOESN'T OVER-CHARGE. MOST GUYS WILL TELL YOU THAT YOU HAVE TO REPLACE SOMETHING VERY EXPENSIVE AND THEN THEY CHARGE YOU A FORTUNE FOR THE LABOR. NOT FERNANDO -- HE'S A STRAIGHT SHOOTER AND A REAL BLESSING TO ANY HOME-OWER.
