Part of the job entailed sanding the concrete floor and was a messy, time consuming job. The crew was polite, hard working and professional. Give them high marks for effort and work ethic.
After this was cleaned up the painter came in a week later and repainted the walls.
Overall a very good experience and would not hesitate to call Nir and Alan for my next job in the spring. They were both personable, honest, and straightforward. Alan is a sports car fan like me and we had a few interesting chats on the old days.
Highly recommend.
"Thank you for the excellent report. It was a pleasure to work with you and we will be happy to come back in the spring for more work. We both wish you happy holidays"
I called Nir Davidson regarding water leaking into my threshold in June 2011. Both Alen & Nir came out to assess the situation. They checked for water damage & mold to foundation and found none. Since that was the biggest concern for Nir, I was glad that it was ruled out. I requested a quote and at first wouldn't give me one until they determined the cause. He did let me know that he couldn't give me an exact amount until they pinpointed the exact cause, but we came to the conclusion that it was gutter related and stated he could tell me that it wouldn't be anymore than $600. I explained that I had one other handy person that was coming out for an estimate and that I would let him know either way. I received a quote from the other source and explained to them what we thought the issue was. I was given a quote for $450 by them. Although the other source was more reasonable price wise, I really liked Alan and Nir, they were both very friendly and seemed to be very honest. I called Nir two days later and hired him for the job. He said he would call me back once he checked his schedule. Two days went by and no call back, so I called back and left a message regarding scheduling. One week later, no call back. I called again and left another message. I waited another week still nothing. One week later Nir calls me back and leaves a voice message requesting to come out in two days. So heated, I decided to make him wait, realizing he didn't respect my time. I called him back two days later and explained that I expected him to call back 3 weeks prior and explained that my project had to be postponed for a few months due to unexpected circumstances.
August came, I called Nir to schedule once again. it took him a few days to call back and finally schedule something. Because of his excellent reviews and great demeanor, I tolerated this behavior hoping for the best.
September 9th (Fri.) came, two men plus Alen showed up to assess once again, they determined once and for all that the way the gutter was positioned it was creating water to pour down on the threshold and leak into the wall. So Alen confirmed that it was good news and it would not cost that much since the problem was an easy fix. He left the site and the guys got started. They both left to get supplies and came back about an hour later. One of the men put some stick on foam weather stripping around my sliding door, I was thinking, I could have done that. I wanted real weather stripping, my old stripping had come off. I could have bought that crap at the Home Depot myself, seriously? But before saying anything I wanted to wait for the end result, maybe there was more. The same guy ended up getting hurt on the job, cut his hand and had to leave, which now leaves one guy to do all the work. During this time he worked, ate lunch, I even ordered it for him. He worked till about 3pm and said he be back the following day to finish. Saturday morning, he never showed. I called Nir to find out where he was, Nir quickly said, "he's not there? let me call you back." He called back and let me know the worker was on his way. I told him that I had another appointment and set my morning aside for him to finish. I was told by my fiance that he came about 12:30pm and finished by 4:30pm.
Approx. 1 1/2 weeks goes by and Nir gives me a call regarding the invoice. He then asked me if I wanted him to tell me or wait for the invoice. I told him he could tell me, I'm prepared. He then tells me the cost was $1415.00. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I asked for what? He said the new gutter and the back sliding door. He said the gutter was $1215.00 and the back door was $200.00. I told him that he quoted me a price of no more than $600.00. He then stated that was before he knew there had to be a new piece of gutter added, at this time he should have definitely told me there was a change in the pricing. I told him my back door was never fixed and that the $3.00 stick on stripping was hanging off after a week and I was not paying $200.00 for that and the gutter install was not for the whole house, but only a 5" piece and a larger down spout. Very disappointed, I hung up with him. He called me back shortly and said he spoke with Alen and they would do me a favor and take the door off, they wanted to work with me...really? One week later, the guy never showed to fix the door. Nir called me back and asked me if I was pleased with the door. I told him that his guy never showed up!! he sounded surprised after everything that I had gone through. I wasn't. Nir arranged that the guy would come out at 8am three days later. He finally came and fixed my door. They called it a favor fixing my door, but I felt like I had just been robbed!! To know, I had a written quote from someone else, who charged a 1/3 less and also had great reviews, but I chose them because they seemed honest and nice.
By the way Alen was also supposed to have someone call me about a quote regarding flat screen tv in wall wiring. Just for the record, he never called me back. Nir also gave me a verbal quote for floor tiling for a small entrance way - $600.00 again. I just got two floors done for $399.00 minus materials and they look great!!
"Hi Member, Thank you for the evry detailed report. The initial estimate was $600 that is correct but it was not including fixing the back door or gutters that you requested to install during the work. we did tell you that if you do open the wall to fix the leak we might find things that we could not see with the siding covering the damage and if we do find rutten wood or other problems we will charge you according to the hour of labor. We are sorry to hear that you have issues with the price but we are happy that the work is done properly and there is no more leaking."
The project was to replace all the trim on my house with PVC so I would never have to paint, or replace, the trim ever again. Good plan and for what my previous contractor did, a good price for that level of craftsmanship. The new company was very professional in establishing quotes and visiting my house. However, the demo team and the installation team were two different subcontractors that I don't think were used before by BuildItForU2.
The demo team cracked some of my window casings on the inside that required some maintenance. The subcontractor stated that it wasn't their doing, but the BuildItForItForU2 guy came out and made sure the problem was fixed. After the demo, the team that installed the trim scraped some of the PVC, which can be seen and may now need to be painted to cover the extensive blemishes. Most of the work was good.
My major complaint was that they should have installed unmarked materials. After numerous back-and-forths, I paid the contractor everything but a remaining $500, and that was the last contact that was made.I think I would use the contractor again based on his professionalism. However, I would make sure to meet his subcontractors to make sure they fully understood the need not to use blemished materials. If the project was to install white trim that would never need to be painted, then there should not be black streaks and other marks on portions of the trim.
I think the main contractor understood that, but the subcontractor did not. I think the BuildItForU2 was a little frustrated that he did not have full control over how the installation went because he hadn't used that subcontractor previously. The $500 was about a 5% discount, but I would rather have paid the full price and have unblemished materials used for the project.
On a side note, the project involved some challenging zoning issues. It was an amazing bonus that Alan was able to cantilever the addition by several feet on two sides of the home. This created space for a mudroom and significantly enhanced our living room and dining room, without sending us back for re-approval. This is just one of many examples where using a builder with 30+ years experience, makes all the difference in the world.
"Member, It was a pleasure working with you on the deck and ramp design and be able to provide you the service that you were entitle to get as a customer. We hope that the deck will serve you for many years to come. Thank you very much for your business Nir Davidson / Alan Factor"
The amount spent (noted above) was for labor and materials. We purchased the majority of the fixtures, vanity, etc. totalling 3000.00.
"Thank you, It was a pleasure doing the job. We like to give attantion to the small projects as if they were big ones."
"Thank you for the good report, it looks like there was a small miscommunication between us, I will contact you in the next few days to talk about it. I will be happy to come back and some more work for you."
FixItForU2 came over to give us quotes on several items. Their quote on refinishing/installing hardwood floor is particularly expensive, about three times the quote we got from another contractor. So although our initial intention was for them to do the floor, we ended up having them fix the chimney leaking.
The work quality is good. No leakage so far. The work is several days later than the scheduled time, but it was not a problem for us, since we are in no hurry.
Overall experience is good.
