Auto Body Work
$3,325
A very good friend backed into my car damaging the mirror and the drivers door.  Another friend reccomended Nickole saying they do excellent work.  I spoke with Ernie at Nickole and explained this was a good friend of mine that hit me and she was deciding whether to pay for it or submit an insurance claim depending on what the repair quote came to.  He quoted me $1700 to repair the car and a additional $400.00 to repair the rocker panel that was not part of the accident that I would pay out of pocket to repair. Every number I was given was verbal, nothing was given in writing.
The adjuster came out and wrote the claim for $3,325.00.  I was never given his number. The day I called to see if the car was ready,  I was then informed "he forgot to include the blending of the paint" and it was another $900.00 and the Insurance company included the rocker panel as part of the appraisal.
I had a call from the insurance company before the work was completed asking where the check was to be sent, I informed them to send the check to me, not to the auto body shop,or my insurance company.  He had informed the appraiser to send the check directly to him, which I don't know how he would have that authority until I inspected the competed work and authorized payment.  The check was received and cashed by him Aug 19th.  When I called asking why the cost went from the original $1,700/$2,100 to $3,325, he informed me it was for all the extra work he had done, much of which was not related to the accident, but mostly for the blending.  When questioned why the blending was never considered or quoted knowing he had the car and was asked to quote for its repair he became extremely agitated and defensive and said no money at all was coming back to me and thats what it took for the repairs, even if he repaired the entire side of the car which was never requested. He sid that I should have been calling him thanking him for all the extra work he did. $900 for the blending added to the 2,100 quote is 3,000; not 3,325. He said this discussion was going nowhere and he was hanging up, and he did which I felt all of this was compeltly unprefessional.   At no time over the two week period was I called by him and informed any quote I was given had to be increased and I find it very coincidental that the bill the exact amount of the check.
I immediately called back requesting a copy of the invoice which he said he had and I could get.  Its 24 hours later and I still have not received any fax of the paper work from him.  It might take time to create a copy to match the appraisers quote.  The car looks great, but now he has one person that is upset enough to take the time to write this and I will let others know of this.  So beware...get everything in writing and get multiple auto body company quotes before the work is started.
