My first experience with this company was quite good--or so I thought at the time. Unfortunately, the problem tree has grown back. However, my second experience with this company has been so frighteningly awful that I felt it better to leave the tree alone rather than call them back. When removing a neighbor's chestnut tree from where it was damaging a concrete wall on my property, New England Tree backed their truck into that same wall, damaging the wall severely. Unfortunately, they refused to admit that they had damaged the wall and even claimed that the damage was a pre-existing condition. (You'd think I would notice scrapes and a two-foot wide hole in the middle of my concrete block wall, which I park next to every day, wouldn' t you?)
In addition, well aware of the value of chestnut wood, I asked that the tree's remains be sawwed into six-foot lengths and stacked neatly in my driveway. When I got home after the work was done, I found my driveway littered with sawdust and stumps ranging from about 18? long to about 24? long?far too small (short) to be worth much. It took me considerable time and effort to remove these stumps and make room so I could park in the driveway?and aggravation I did not need, especially considering my back troubles.
Unfortunately, several attempts to reach New England Tree resulted in several humiliating phone calls. These accomplished nothing. Eventually, I had to involve my attorney, and, on his advice, I have turned the matter over to the insurance companies who is compensating me about $3000 to repair the damaged wall, but who may consequently raise my premiums. Unfortunately, the only person I could find who could repair such a wall wanted almost $8000 for the job.
I patched the wall as best I could on my own, since it clearly seems to be difficult if not impossible to find a professional who will repair it.
It should be noted that while New England Tree's lawn-signs indicate they are ?licensed and insured?, I was never offered or provided an insurance binder, and my experience with them, along with comments from my insurance company, lead me to question whether or not they are actually insured at all.
Recommendation: This company is best avoided.
"We appreciate all customers and respect their property as if it were our own. Please note, that we did not avoid speaking with the member, however, we did speak with his and our insurance company who determined that after inspection of the truck as well as the retaining wall, New England Tree was determined to have no fault in this alleged damage to the member's retaining wall, nor was it possible for our truck to have damaged his wall in the location which had shown damage prior to our starting the job. In the end, we work hard and pride ourself on the quality of work we do for our clients. It is unfortunate that this job is looked upon negatively for an issue unrelated to our tree work."
