We just bought our house 4 months ago and were getting an energy audit done due to large electricity bills. The auditor mentioned that the oil burner wasn't working (late summer so didn't need the heat) and that our hot water tank was heating only on electric. This was late October and a cold spell was coming in New England. We had a 7 month old at the time. We wanted to convert to gas for more efficiency and cleaner burning, but the gas company was going to take at least 6 weeks to run the line into the house. With the cold coming gas wasn't an option so we needed our burner either repaired or replaced. Repair was going to be $500 as it hadn't been cleaned in 3 years and the flue broke apart when a repair technician looked at it. I remembered working with Craig from a house we rented a few years back. He was always knowledgeable, so I called him. His bid on the job was only $75 higher than our cheapest, but he installed a higher end burner and switched out some parts to get more efficiency out of it. Also, he installed a 6-zone system because we have plans for additions on the house and all of the other bids were for 2. He also made it so that down the road if we want to use the water tank rather than the tankless coil we could by opening up some valves. The old system also had pipes that stuck out really far into the space around it, so he installed new piping that is more streamlined. Overall, he did a great job and worked days & evenings to accommodate us with our baby so we would have heat sooner.
