Animal Rescues/Shelters
Very disappointed. When I first saw Northeast Animal shelter’s various pages (website, Facebook, Instagram) I was excited because I thought ‘well here is a place doing everything to maximize outreach and get the best adopters for their animals’... well unfortunately, reaching a larger audience is only effective if you have adequate means of dealing with the response you get as a result. My husband and I were looking to adopt a dog, and were particularly interested in the ‘unforgettable friends’ list, because we have experience with dogs and are happy to train. I followed the instructions exactly: filled out the pre-adopt form, sent emails to the unforgettable friends email, and waited to hear back. I sent over half a dozen emails to that email address - I got exactly 1 email back that wasn’t automated, and that was only after I left a comment on a photo of that particular dog on Instagram to draw attention to the fact that I had emailed. I followed up on that email immediately, and again, never heard back. Just to articulate how serious we were, we have since adopted a three-legged shepherd mix. We knew we were excellent candidates, the humane society we ultimately went through agreed, but northeast animal shelter either couldn’t be bothered to give us the time of day, or does not have the proper systems setup to adequately assess and/or respond to prospective adopters. This is a failure to their mission and their animals.

Although we already had a dog, We would visit this shelter to,check out the dogs, as well as check out theire website. We saw a dog on-line that we immediately felt that we had to see In person. When we got to the shelter he was actually out at the vet, being neutered. We went back the next day, and saw that there was quite a bit of interest in him. We expressed interest in him to the workers, but, Since we had another dog, we had to bring her to meet him to see how they got along. We came back that night. They were very busy, but we were able to have a private meeting with the two dogs. Our only hesitation was that our dog was a little older, and we wanted to talk to,her vet to see if he thought it would be a good for her if we got another dog. He said it would be good for her, so we came back only to see that other people were waiting to see the dog that we were interested in. It was really busy, and those people didn't want to wait, so they left, which was good for us because we were next in line to see the dog that we wound up adopting.

Our new dog was very rambunctious, and the shelter recommended a wonderful trainer, from whom we did several private classes, as well as classes with other dogs. Chris made a world of difference.

This is a wonderful organization. The dogs and cats are well taken care of and most of the staff are volunteers and truly care about the animals. The downside was that there was not much background information on our dog as he was a stray, but that is to be expected when you adopt from a shelter.

The adoption fee includes spaying/neutering. and.shots. The next day we took him to the vet for a thorough exam, and also took hi to a groomer for a good bath.

This is a high volume, no kill shelter and many dogs are shipped here from other parts of the country..

When we adopted our dog it was very busy, and there was quite a bit of interest in our dog, so if you see a dog or cat that you really like, my advice is to,adopt them before someone else does.

As far as the cat adoption, our daughter had adopted a cat, from this shelter, who passed away after three years. After he passed away she went to this shelter and they could not have been kinder to her. She was quite upset after losing her cat and the volunteers there were so compassionate. She wound up finding a cat and adopting again, and is very happy as well.

I would not hesitate to adopt from this shelter again.

Northeast Animal Shelter cares for animals and it is a no kill animals shelter and the people are friendly. We go in there and look for what we like and we are out, it is a swift process.

They are a great shelter. It's a nice and clean facility and they like to advertise their dogs pretty aggressively trying to get them home. They are a no-kill shelter.

I have used this veterinarian for some time now and have always found them to be reliable and trust worthy in the care of our pets. The office is clean and organized and the staff is friendly and caring. They are good with people as well as the animals. There were no surprises at this visit and I would recommend Northeast Animal Shelter to others.
