Rutland Sanitation provided an estimate of $155 for septic tank pumping, assuming 1,000 gallons, and provided advance notice of digging charges to uncover the access port, and price per gallon over the first 1,000. They were prompt in setting up an appointment (2-days notice) and actually showed up a day earlier, having had another appointment in the area. They politely asked if we would mind having it done a day earlier. The person who did the service had actually done the last pumping for the house's previous owners, and knew the exact location of the tank and the access port. Since he did not have to dig more than a few shovel-fulls, he did not charge us for the digging. He even put the grass back on top of the site when he was done. The estimate was right in line with the actual cost...no surprises. They set us up in their system so we'll get a call when service is due again.
