The Certa Pro owner came to our home, after our initial call and did a thorough review of what services we expected in having the exterior of our house painted.  In turn he provided us a detailed review of what we discussed, detailed pricing and the general timeframe when we could expect to have our house painted.  We made it a little easy for them since we knew exactly what paint colors we wanted used and had the information available from our last painting 7 years ago.

While Certa Pro's pricing was higher than the two other painting contractors we contacted, we felt the thoroughness of what they proposed was worth the extra price. Certa Pro does have a lot of overhead which does add to the price, including the owners of the franchise, an office assistant who stayed in contact with us via e-mail and providing necessary paperwork to get the project started; two folks who did the carpentry and prep work, a supervisor of the project and two painters.  Indeed they did follow through on everything that they proposed and we are satisfied with the quality of the work.  Interestingly, you only pay by cash or check once the work is completed there is no downpayment required.

The people who came to our house to do the work were pleasant and worked very hard completing the painting in the time frame identified in the proposal.  The work they did was thorough, neat and they cleaned up at the end of each day.

We noticed after the job was done and the check cashed that a door frame was left unpainted.  They answered our call and promptly came back and fixed the problem, no hastle involved.

The two employees who did the painting completed all the work in a timely manner, arrived on time, and were very courteous. They did a very neat job and when finished left a very clean house. They vacuumed all areas and removed all their painting tools and debris, even paint chips on the lawn from the fence. I would definitely use this company again.They did a terrific painting job.

They were wonderful! We thought they were fairly priced as well. They did such a nice job painting our big house and they were quick to finish the job. It's a beautiful job!

In 2005 another painting contractor painted my Mother's house and by 2008, I searched for a new painting contractor to repaint one side of my Mother's home.  I selected CertaPro of SouthShore / Boston to paint one side of the home and they did a great job.  Fast forward to 2014, it was time to have the entire home painted so I contacted CertaPro Painters and a couple of other painting contractors for quotes.  The CertaPro Sales/Project Manager, John Donnelly, met with my Mother and walked around the home providing insights and made note of some rotting fascia and rake boards that would need to be replaced.  He took pictures of the home and included the pictures in the comprehensive quote.   I had a few telephone calls with John and he never got frustrated by my questions.   He spelled out how the project would flow from the staffing of the project down to the number of days it would take if the weather cooperated.  He did not misrepresent any detail.  Even the fact that a wet vac is used to clean up the area around the home each night.  I just left my Mother's home after the final inspection and I did not see any debris left behind.     I was impressed by John and his attention to detail that I felt confident that I made the right selection.   The process went smoothly with securing a start date from Wendy and the initial call from J.R., the General Contractor/Supervisor assigned to our job provided even more details about what was going to happen each day (powerwashing, carpentry, sanding, priming and painting).  After my experience with J.R. and his team of the hardest working men, I have no hesitation in contacting them to paint the interior of my Mother's home.  J.R.'s team consisted of two carpenters (Manuel and Pedro) who spent a whole day removing and replacing the rotting wood in a few areas around the home and crafting new bulkhead doors of PVC.  When my Mother commented about a new window box for the shed, these two men created the perfect window box and made my Mother very happy.   I knew the prep work was going to be crucial to having a great paint job.  As promised, a team of five or more showed up to sand the shingles to prepare for the primer.   During the day I called my Mother to see to how things were progressing and she said, "They are fastidious and have not stopped since 8 a.m."   She even commented about 'their impressive attention to detail.'  I was at my Mother's house for the day they painted and I observed the team in action.  First of all, they were all courteous and took great pride in their work. Rinaldo carefully sealed each door and window to prevent paint from getting on the trim, etc. Andre masterfully applied the paint and Rinaldo followed closely with a roller.   The trimwork was painted by Joci and I marveled at his very steady hand in painting the tough areas of the home.  Each day I had one to three calls with J.R., and during the painting day, we had a few conversations while walking around and looking at the work.  J.R., was consistent, professional, honest and he got everything done that he said he would.  There was not one item or issue that remained to be resolved.   We are very happy with the final product!

Very professional in the estimate, description of services, etc. They do a very careful job going over all the details of what is done, in writing, with pictures and checking on details (color, door, trim, etc.).
But they sub-contract out the work to non-american sub workers. So the house we saw done by them, was not what we got. Our crew spoke little english, and really did not spend enough time on the scraping (true, it was in very bad shape. it should have been scraped for 1.5 weeks. They did not do that). The some parts of the house really needed detailed treatement.
We will see how soon it starts to peel again.

*** UPDATE ***

I called them about the peeling, they sent a 2nd crew that did a much much better job on the peeling parts than the first. Supplied their own paint. No cost. I am now giving them an overall "A". It looks like it depends on which crew you get. This second crew was great.

I think they should have gone slower with the prep work. There is a good deal of aligatoring (ripples). But all in all, they provide excellent documentation and description of what they do. I think your results will depend not the pre-sales work (which is outstanding) but on the actually sub-contractors they use for the painting work itself.

I called them about the peeling, they sent a 2nd crew that did a much much better job on the peeling parts than the first. Supplied their own paint. No cost. I am now giving them an overall "A". It looks like it depends on which crew you get. This second crew was great.

Overall my experience with them was very good. We had a couple of small things and I had something at the end where I wanted them to come back to do a little thing on the gutter where the painting had faded. I got a second bid for twice this amount but I didn't get a third bid.

I was impressed with everything from the salesperson, Lou, to the crew of painters that worked as quiet as mice well into the evening (I requested this) so that I could have painted in time for a party I was having at my home. The office kept me up to date on when the painters would arrive and everyone was very polite. The clean up was very thorough and were especially careful with my dogs (one of which is blind).  My favorite part:  They took off their shoes without me asking!  I did receive a few bids and Certapro's was not the lowest, but the for the quality and service I received it was worth the extra money.

They first met with us in June and they did the painting in September. That was one of the issues we had with them. They said they were gonna do it in July and they kept putting it off until September. I had to threaten to completely back out before they finally came out. Initially, they said that we have a queue and there was rain in the summer. They said the queuing is pushed back because of the rain. It made some sense but on the other hand, we had an interior painting jobs lined up for them, too and they didn’t get to those either. We used them because of the positive recommendations on Angie’s List, it helped. Their website seemed pretty well-ran. They had someone come out who made a pretty good pitch for their services and wheat they did. A lot of it was that they said they could get it done in July. Their timetable of what they said they were gonna do is a lot shorter than some other folks. They have a design person come out who gave us some samples. The actual process ended up not being simple. We had a couple workers and a supervisor come out to do the work. But the supervisor eventually left the workers and left for the day. The workers did part of the corner of the house really badly. There were multiple layers in some places and not in other places, and brushstrokes everywhere. One of their big selling points was that they were gonna get nothing on our trim and our decks and they got a bunch of stuff in our deck and trim. They did about a week or removing the mess and trying to get it back to where it was. They brought in a couple of guys who kinda knew what they were doing and they redid it. At the end of the day, it looked okay. But it took a long time and it was a hassle than we thought it was going to be. The removal caused a lot of minor damage to the shingles.  The first 2 guys who showed up just clearly hadn’t done staining work before and neither spoke any English. The cleaning wasn’t great either, I ended up doing a lot of the cleaning myself. They had one manager who wasn’t bad. So there was someone there who was pretty responsive and professional.

Things went really well and the house looks great!  Initially there was a lot of email contact because they were running behind schedule because of all of the rain we'd had during the month.  It was no problem for us and we were ok with that.  They powerwashed and prepared the house in one day, painted the next day and did touch ups the 3rd day.  They guys were very quiet - my neighbors said they would have never even know they were there painting.  They were very neat and did a wonderful job with clean up too.  When they came to the house, there was only one man on a four man crew that spoke some English, which was fine, but made communication a bit tough at times.  Also, the only complaint I have is that once the job was done and paid for, I needed to get in touch with them to find out exactly what color they used for the trim on my house.  I had replaced the lighting fixture next to the front door and needed to do some touch up as the new fixture plates did not match the old ones and some of the old house color was peeking through.  I didn't pick the trim color, they just matched the new eaves we had put on the house.  I emailed the office with my request and when I got no response, I phoned them the next day.  The girl was nice and gave me the crew chief's phone number so I could call him.  I called the crew chief who promised to get back to me the next day and never did.  I then emailed customer service (all over a 7 day period), asking if someone could please let me know the name of the trim color they used and the grade of Benjamin Moore paint and there were several to choose from.  It's been going on 10 days now and I still haven't gotten any answers :(  which is really too bad, beause overall this was a fantastic experience.   I sadly have the feeling that once the job was done they weren't really interested in us anymore ~ which kind of puts a damper on my wanting to use them for other projects in the future.
