The inspection was fine, the estimate was high.
On April 2, I e-mailed asking where the report was.
The same day, Nash e-mailed saying he'd already sent it. I replied same day it hadn't arrived and asked him to be sure to send it to the same e-mail we were using.
On April 3, I e-mailed it still hadn't arrived.
No response.
On April 29, I said no report received and that I wanted my $59 back.
No response as of today May 11.
Guess I'm ripped off.
I want my money back.
"Asphalt shingles can only be installed on a certain pitch of a roof, that is why is is called a steep slope product in the industry. When a roof is at a 3 pitch or lower it is supposed to be installed with a low slope roof product, like a rubber roof. We had explained this to the homeowner. Unfortunately he had the incorrect type of roof installed on part of his home."
Second, Jeremiah and his crew addressed the situation that led my wife and I to consult a roofing specialist in the first place. A year or two prior to our family acquiring the house, the previous owners had installed a new roof on the property. The roofer that had done the job used an odd approach; and for reasons that can't seem to be explained, that roofer did not cut a ridge vent so the house was not "breathing" properly. Jeremiah and his team removed the old cap shingles (some of which were in the midst of failing) and properly vented the ridge of our roof. Jeremiah explained that with the ridge properly vented, we should notice a marked difference in the efficiency of our central air conditioning system this summer. While that does remain to be seen (It's early April as I type this), the assessment matches up with the HVAC specialist who installed our system and originally alerted us to the lack of proper venting on our roof.
Working with Michael and Jeremiah was a great experience. They are honest, friendly, knowledgeable and very reliable. While my wife and I certainly hope we won't have further need of roofing services any time soon, we would not hesitate to hire Nash & Sons again. I cannot recommend them highly enough. We had a great experience working with them.
Jeremiah showed my husband the photos he had taken and explained what was wrong. A few days later we received a highly detailed and professional estimates for a. repairing the biggest problems; or b. an entire new roof (as asked).
Were were pleased by his obvious love of his work and the professional manner in which he explained what was needed to us. We do plan to go ahead with one of the options; just haven't decided yet, and today I called him for an estimate on garage repairs. We look forward to working with them and expect a quality job. Will post again once the work is complete.
"This review is a complete shock to me as this member bought this inspection deal over a year ago and is just putting in a review now and I tried contacting this person 7 times after I sent them the inspection report and estimate and they never returned any of my attempts to contact them to acknowledge they received the report and estimate, nevermind to try and schedule to do the work. So I have no idea why we are getting a D rating for not doing the work. The member bought the deal for a roof inspection and report which we provided. The member bought the deal on 12/22/12. I contacted the member on 12/28/12 after the holidays. I again contacted the member on 01/04/13 and told the member that we would be out once the weather broke and we would perform the roof inspection as soon as possible, and that if there was a problem with that to contact us. On 01/18/13 I emailed the member the roof inspection report and estimate. On 01/19/13 the member emailed me back all upset that how could I perform the report if they had not even scheduled the date yet. She then accused us of showing up announced and walking into her backyard without her permission. After I spoke with my father he told me he went to the house personally and rang the doorbell and spoke to the lady at the home who walked him around the house and showed him the issues with the roof. I tried emailing the member 4 more times after this even apologizing that she was upset that we went with her scheduling it, even though I had stated this in my emails to her before, and that I would personally go back out and redo the inspection and report for free. I never heard back from any of my emails and now it has been over a year and this review just was put in. We made every attempt to try and schedule, perform the work, contact the member after, and even to try and redo the deal for free until the member was completely satisfied but they never ever returned any of our attempts."
The actual appointment went well and he is compiling the information and sending me a quote for tear out and install of a new roof and gutters.
It took a while for us to make the appointment mostly due to the weather.
Overall, I was pleased.
In general, I think Angie's list could do a better job with regards to service territory. This contractor is located in Randolph. My house is in Framingham. With the first contact, I asked if Framingham was in their service territory and they said yes. In hindsiight, I should have known better. The day they cancelled due to rain, it was sunny in Framingham, but raining in Randolph. The distance made a difference. In the future, I will not do business with contractors more than 20 miles away.
Another lesson learned would be to ask about the size of the dumpster. The one they put in my driveway was so big, it took up half the driveway. It was less than half full at the completion of the work, so I don't think it was necessary to use such a big dumpster.
"I'm a little shocked from this review as I thought I had explained everything to the member. I had sent the contract and payment information through email as the member wanted to get the roof installed right away and it was difficult tying to get a time to meet to sign the contract. I explained that the dumpster and material would be delivered a day or so before we started the roof so everything would be there the day of the roof install. We had spoken about having the roof install date to be that Friday and after she signed the contract and paid the deposit online, I sent her a follow up email with a link to the GAF website in order to look over the shingle colors and get back to me. I did not hear back from her until that Friday when she called to see if we were starting the roof that day. I asked her if she had received my email and told her since I didn't hear back from her the materials were never ordered because how could I order the shingles without knowing what color she wanted on her home. The member laughed at this as she realized that it would be impossible for me to order the material and also we would never pick a color for a homeowner without their input. This is why I am surprised by the review because I believe there was miscommunication or a misunderstanding from both sides, not just from our company. I don't think any homeowner would make the mistake of expecting a roof to be installed on a certain day when they hadn't even picked out a color for the shingles yet. Another issue was when the member called me upset when the dumpster was being delivered because she somehow didn't realize that the dumpster being delivered would take up a spot in front of the garage. She went and spoke with the driver and decided on which side she wanted the dumpster to be placed, so I thought this would be the end of the issue with the dumpster. The day of the install it was raining in Randolph where one of our offices are but I emailed the homeowner at 6:35AM on Tuesday and explained to her that even though it was raining in Randolph, the forecast in general predicted rain until 10AM that day so that we would have to postpone the install until the next day. I don't think any homeowner would want us to strip an entire roof off their home when the possibility of rain was in the forecast. Again, I am surprised by the review because of this as well. Finally, concerning the dumpster, dumpsters are ordered and filled by weight not by volume. The member had a large sized roof with two layers, and so we ordered a dumpster that would hold all the weight from the amount we were taking off. Since shingles are so heavy, they sit at the bottom of the dumpster, so the dumpster will always seem to be half filled but in actuality the dumpster was at the maximum of 5 tons when it was brought to the disposal facility. It did rain after we completed the roof so that is why the final cleanup was done when everything had dried up. I'm sorry that the member thought that there was a big miscommunication here but I believe part of it had to do with misconceptions from the member after things were discussed especially about weather conditions, choosing a color, and concerning the dumpster. As we move forward we will definitely explain these things further."
