Doug walked out on the job, and broke our contract, without notice. We came home one evening and all his stuff was gone. He had been paid every step of the way, and even given advance payment for work that was never completed. The contract called for completion on April 30, 2013; he quit the job one week before that, having gotten through rough inspection but not beginning finishing details, tiling, flooring, etc. He later told us his reason for quitting was that he made a mistake and bid the job too low.
We had paid all but $4000 on the contract. Finishing the job Doug left behind will cost us between $12-15,000. (i.e. at least $8000 to $11000 more than what we had contracted for.)
In addition to the money, we are expecting a baby in a couple weeks, and the work on our house is still not done.
It has been one month since Doug walked out and we are still not done our bathrooms.
The stress, anxiety, and burden on a pregnant mother has been overwhelming at times.
Doug made a lot of promises and seemed like a nice man. He really let us down. This whole process has been a nightmare.
