They were overall professional as contractors go. Of all the contractors I have worked with in my home, they were among the most pleasant to work with. They did reschedule appointments numerous times, but they did show up when promised. There was nothing unethical about their business practices (which I have experienced in the past with other contractors). The quality of the work was good overall, but not exceptional. It did vary somewhat based on whether it was the owner of the company or his workers doing the job. They did make some mistakes and show some carelessness regarding the details. The floors were installed by one of his workers who did a great job laying out the tile in advance and then carefully fitting it in place. My only criticism is that they were supposed to tape the joints between the hardiebacker underlayment which they did not do. Hopefully this does not cause problems later. On the day they laid in the countertop tile, the owner brought two young workers with him who did not seem quite as good as the first worker who did the floors. These two workers did not put down an even coating of thinset underneath the granite tile and afterwards I could see air pockets under the tile from the edge of the sink cutout. Hopefully the tiles won't crack under pressure. It is in a rental unit and you never know if tenants will climb up onto the counters to reach a high cabinet! Also when they laid the granite tile, which we had pre-bullnosed at a granite fabricator, they did not take care to line up the front edge perfectly on all the tiles which was disappointing. In one area, where this was particularly obvious, the owner went to even it out with a grinder and knicked the drawer face of the brand new kitchen cabinets. It would have taken two seconds for him to remove the drawer to get it out of the way, so that was upsetting. When they were doing the backsplash, they did a nice looking job, but when it came to going around the outlet boxes, they seemed a little unaware. My electrician had installed adjustable boxes that could be adjusted to come out to the surface of the tile. The tile contractor tiled over one of them so that it could not be adjusted. The owner seemed unaware about the fact that these were adjustable boxes to match up to the finished tile surface. Luckily my husband noticed the mistake and caught them in time before they tiled over all the electrical boxes. He showed them how they adjust and moved them to the correct adjustment so the tilers could not tile over them. The one box that got tiled over, my husband and I had to fix ourselves with a dremel, which took over an hour and made a dusty mess. It was frustrating to have to go back and fix their mistake. In the future I will adjust the boxes out all the way so that they can't tile over them! I would use them again for floors and backsplashes but not for tile countertops. I am updating this review after several years have passed. They were the first tile contractors I had ever used. I think I was overly harsh in my first assessment. I have since used another tile contractor who charged a lot more and did less quality work. It made me realize what a good value A&H tile company was. Sure there were a few mistakes, but nothing that was really huge. I would use them again if they are available. I am sure they are more experienced now too and would not make those same mistakes again. The work they did still looks very good and nothing has cracked.
Description of Work: The contractor installed new tile floors in a bathroom, pantry and vestibule. They also installed two subway tile backsplashes in the kitchen and granite tile countertops. They also installed tile and a marble top on an end cap for the bathtub. They also installed three marble thresholds to transition from the newly tiled rooms to the hardwood floor. They put sealer on the granite countertop and silicone at the joint between the wall and counter. **The amount we paid did not include the cost of tile.
