 + -1 moreI hired J.J. Gauvain Construction to do some work in kitchen and dining room. John was real nice at first, but had trouble reaching him via phone. He said job would go 3 days. Weeks and weeks went by with his guys coming a half day once per week or per two weeks. They put in beam, and framing for door and windows, and temporarily tacked them in place, then never returned. I called him over and over and over but he never answered phone. One time he answered cell and told me he was getting sued in Cambridge and busy but would be out soon. He also flaked on my neigbor's project (who initially recommended him to me). WORST PART. Structural engineer comes out and beam fails inspection. It's not even close to level or plum and resting on 2x6's that are not up to code. The beam is 14 inches high and his guys didn't event put it under floor joist above. They took short cut and rested it against plaster and lathe and wall top plate. By the time it got fixed by another contractor it was rolling over at top and looked like it was going to topple. Mind you, I have two toddlers that sleep on second floor above this thing. My wife and I were really crushed at the extra time and money and aggravation this guy caused us.
Description of Work: Needed 6 windows added, a door removed, a door added and a load bearing wall moved and replaced with beam. He did rough framing for everything, tacked windows and doors in place. Put in 15 foot LVL beam to support half of house.
