There were three guys that loaded and unloaded our items. I talked to the owner about hiring them to unload a POD that we loaded ourselves. We didn't have time to unload it. It would make sense to send more people since the house we moved into was a lot bigger, had some tricky spaces to it, and they said they would unload the POD. Well it was to much for the 3 people that came. My husband ended up unloading the POD with a friend because it would have taken the moving guys forever and costing us a lot more money. We really wanted this to be an easy move, not for my husband to break his back doing work. I should have gotten specific information from the owner about the unloading process. They were very inefficient in the unloading process. One guy sat on the truck and texted on his phone or smoked while two guys brought things into the house. There were also cigarette butts on our driveway for my toddler to discover.
Our bedroom set can't be refinished because it is natural wood. My husband showed them a way to hoist a chest of drawers over the upper porch so scratches could be avoided and there is no reason for a bed and dinning room table to be scratched. If more people were sent to unload, they wouldn't have tried forcing a piece of furniture up the steps, they should have gone a different way. A mattress was left downstairs and we had to ask a friend to help get it up the stairs. We also had to buy new bolts for our weight set that was taken apart because bolts are nowhere to be found. A mirror and part of our weight set was left behind in the truck and was returned to us a week later.
I will say that the owner is offering to pay for refinishing the dinning room table, but there isn't anything to be done about the fairly new bedroom furniture. The table hasn't been refinished or paid for yet, so I can't comment on if it will be followed through.
When I met the owner, I thought he would do a good job. Really what I learned is if you want something done right, you have to do it yourself. Nothing in our POD was damaged. You think that hiring professional people to do a job that would take you to long would be better but I'm not so sure.
Moreover, the final invoice was more than double their estimate. When contacted, the proprietor blamed it on me, stating that I had not presented all of the items for the estimate. This was not only false, but when I realized the slow progress of the move, I actually removed items in two rooms from the move (which were part of the estimate).
The proprietor did not even bother to call me and address the issue appropriately. Once he had his money, he could not be bothered with his crews poor performance.
I would NEVER recommend Brickhouse Moving to anyone.
I chose Brickhouse based on the good reviews on the angie's list. The owner Joe was responsive. However, the three guys showed up on the moving day are armatures. they didn't seem to work as a team. They were very slow. I would be okay if they were slow but careful, but they damaged walls in both houses. after they left, I realized that one of the floor lamps is missing its lamp shade and light bulbs. also, it was raining pretty hard that day. my leather couch and chair were not covered at all. they were all wet. and the movers were dragging the chair on the carpet and left dirt mark on my white carpet.
I have moved 4-5 times in my life. this is the worst moving experience yet
maybe I am just unlucky. but I would not use this moving company in the future.
They were on time for the first day and did a great job, including moving a 100 year old grand piano that we were very worried about. The crew was friendly and hard working. They took great care to ask us any questions that they had and to treat our belongings very carefully.
The next day, they were running a little late for our move in to the new house but Joe called and let us know and it was only an hour. They again moved things in quickly and carefully. They also were able to pull an amoire in through a 2nd story window because it wouldn't fit upstairs. They also easily took apart a few pieces of furniture and our beds and put them back together. Basically, Joe had the answer for everything.
The final bill was a few hours over what his original estimate was but Joe made a few concessions for us because he felt bad about that. I also talked to a few of his guys and they all said they loved working for Joe who was on the job moving along with them the entire time, and I take that as a very good sign.
Overall, I completely trusted that we got the best service possible. If you need movers, call Joe and at least give them a chance and you'll see what I mean.
