Working with Halliday was a nightmare. It took them many months to complete the estimate, which came in three times higher than other companies. Having signed a contract with them to do the work, they refused to return the $5,000 when I parted ways with them. They disappeared for many weeks with no response to calls. Never even got to negotiations with insurance company.
Gutter repair and waterproofing: Asked Halliday to diagnose problem with mold smell. Gutters were rotted and water seeping through front steps. Again competent and professional.
Only issue was dealing with how busy the company was. Once we were scheduled, the work got done quickly and professionally. Pricing competitive. Not the cheapest, not the most expensive. Very trustworthy.
"The work at the address was completed according to the conditions of the signed contract. This building is nearly 100 years old and required the expertise of skilled masons to complete the restoration work. The staff employed on this project was all qualified and trained professionals with over 125 years of combined experience. HCC employed the services of Quikrete Corporation, a major manufacturer of masonry products utilizing their specialty department to ensure that the mortars used were a match to this original historic property. This project was managed by the owner of the company, Keven Halliday, who is an authority on masonry construction and has written construction manuals for quality control, servicing and performing masonry waterproofing and repairs. A professional proposal (with all terms and conditions as required by the state and local governments) was presented to the building owner. A description of work to be completed, the materials utilized, and a breakdown of costs were itemized. The building owner reviewed, authorized and signed the proposal before any work commenced. The pricing of all work to be completed was stipulated in this contract. The proposal and all the work not only met the exacting specifications but exceeded them. There were many instances on the job where we, the contractor, went beyond our promise. One example; not stipulated in the contract was a large adjacent area of brick and concrete slab that required cleaning, re-pointing and waterproofing. We offered to do this work without charge as we always like to give our customers a little extra. The owner accepted our offer and we completed the work. (No charge) HCC installed a door with a handle similar to the existing one. When the property owner expressed concerns about not being the one she thought it was going to be, HCC replaced the handle with a cylindrical one to her satisfaction and at no charge. This exemplifies how any specifications that were misconstrued by the homeowner were promptly and cheerfully remedied at no additional expense. Work was started as scheduled. Due to complications and additional work authorized by the homeowner, the project took additional time. All work was done as expediently and efficiently as possible. Generally, our company gets rave reviews. We work very hard and are focused on exceptional customer service. In this instance the owner had promised payment to be sent the next day (after receiving the final invoice and reviewing the project together with us). More that two months passed without a payment, a returned phone call, an e-mail or any communication whatsoever from the building owner. So we placed a lien on the property. That is when she filed a complaint. We can only suggest that sometimes you have to consider the source of the complaint and the real reason why."
