Downeast Chimney Sweep

Had a great experience with Downeast Chimney Sweep! The rep was very knowledge and professional. Our home inspector had recommended cleaning and examination of chimney flues. We don’t have a fireplace but were told that it’s important to clean the exhaust flue since we have gas heat. Downeast chimney explained that we have a direct vent gas furnace and since it doesn’t use the chimney, we don’t need to do anything. Did not try to sell us things we don’t need. Highly recommend them!

The people at Downeast Chimney responded very quickly to questions I had. They were very patient and easy-going in handling multiple inquiries I had as I learned more about what is involved in replacing a chimney cap. Everyone from the company was very straightforward in their answers, and they did not try to sell work that was not required. Their explanations reflected their extensive experience, but were put in terms that someone like me who is not familiar with this kind of thing, could understand easily. They followed through on everything that they said they would do.

We'd had two other chimney companies in (the first for cleanings and an inspection, the second for a second opinion). Both indicated that we would need several thousand dollars of work (new lining, etc.), so we spent some time searching for a third opinion and found Downeast thanks to Angie's List. They were very professional and methodical and ultimately saved us thousands of dollars of unnecessary work. Highly recommend and will definitely use again.

The representatives, who came to our house to view the chimney, were very pleasant and extremely professional and knowledgeable. As promised, we received a proposal within a day or two. Since it was a relatively small job, they were able to return to perform it within about two weeks.

I couldn't have asked for better service. They were highly professional. When they were done, everything was left as neat as a pin. Their investigation found that the 1932 chimney had only partial lining and that the interior of the chimney was deteriorating. We now have full linings for both the furnace and fireplace. A large glob of old cement blocking a portion of the chimney was discovered and expertly drilled out with only two exterior bricks being removed. These were neatly replaced. They were responsive and came exactly when they said they would, both for the initial evaluation and for the work itself. I would not hesitate to recommend their services.

It went very well.

Excellent, they were on time and very professional and friendly. They installed a new stainless steel liner after showing us the cracked clay flue and clearly explaining why we should have a liner installed and the benefits, install process, timeframe, etc. They also performed some work in the fireplace to seal it, as the wood mantle was actually visible from within the fireplace due to poor initial construction. They also performed some minor repointing of the interior fireplace brickwork.

Great. Louis, the owner, is very punctual, thorough and professional. A pleasure to work with. He was able to provide the inspection within a few days of the first contact.

Highly recommended. Responsive, polite, and professional. Had an inspection and cleaning on a first visit, called them back about a year later to have a cap installed on a new chimney. Both excellent experiences. Very thorough, knowledgeable and professional. When we needed a chimney rebuilt after it was damaged, they came to inspect, ascertained that the work was beyond their scope, and referred us to another excellent provider who did great work also. Absolutely recommend these guys.

Downeast was excellent.  Ross and his son were very professional.  They came out after work just a week ago to take a look at the work needed.  They then provided an excellent quote, and we were off the races for that coming weekend to get it done.  They had some guys who did the old chimney removal and new chimney build.  Then they had to fish out the old beaten up aluminum liner, and then put in a brand new stainless steal liner.  We have two story house with a very steep roof, so they had to build up a large scaffolding along the side of the house the day before, and then the next day they completed all the work.  They were very fast and we are very pleased with the look of the new chimney.  They also did a great job with the new connection in the basement that is now up to code and better sealed.  We would definitely recommend them to others.

I actually contacted Downeast Chimney Sweep in September 2014 to discuss the work and get an estimate. But, for a variety of personal reasons, I wasn't able to have the work done until September 2015.  Ross was great about getting back to me in 2014 and promptly set-up an appointment to look at the job.  He and his father, Louis, came out to look at the chimney and provided, what I felt to be, an honest assessment of what did and didn't need to be done. A few days after our meeting, Ross sent me a proposal via e-mail.  When I contacted Ross in 2015 about proceeding with the work, he was great!  And, actually Louis & Ross ended up getting to the job sooner than I expected.  They are quite an efficient team, so the work went smoothly and quickly; and they cleaned-up everything before leaving.  They needed to return to install the chimney cap (which was on order) and did that within a few days as promised.  I'm 100% pleased with the work and with the overall experience.  I highly recommend this very knowledgeable & professional father & son team!
