B & D Air Conditioning & Gas Heating

Great. I got estimates from four companies I found on the Fujitsu websire. Charlie from B & D was the most helpful and also had the lowest price. B&D is an "Elite" installer which means you get a longer (12 year) warranty on equipment. The crew was great, efficient, friendly, and cleaned up after. This is a family business and the crew chief is the owner's son. They also helped apply for rebates etc. (price below is before rebates--installed two units with three indoor heads on each. Total rebates about $2500; haven't gotten them yet.)

We have worked with B&D for several years on our Gas and HVAC System for service and they have always been responsive and great to work with. We just purchased a new house and needed to replace the 30 year old central air system. They were quick to fit us into the schedule, transparent on pricing and did an excellent job, I would highly recommend working with them.

They were professional and timely. Everything was fine.

They did a great job and were very knowledgable. As you can see from the Fujitsu web site, they have done a ton of installations of these Fujitsu mini split units. They were honest, good people from a family business who did a careful job and cleaned up as they went. They made it as easy as possible for us to continue with our lives while they were working. We will definitely call them for any periodic maintenance on the units.

I live in a two family house built in 1925 that had  been turned into 2 condo units, each having its own ancient gas fired furnace and water heaters. After last winter and some close calls with frozen pipes,  and with the government incentives available, my neighbor and I were ready to replace these relics.  We did some advance homework about what was out there and invited 4 contractors to give estimates.
Out of the 4, Charlie Dolabany of B&D was our choice. My boss had highly recommended him after he put in units in his house. We were impressed with Charlie as he had the best price (competitive but with a nice break since he was doing 2 jobs at the same time), excellent product, shortest time frame for the work, and the best idea of how to site and vent the equipment.  He was very clear and understandable in his explanation of the new heating technology (no small feat!), had the training and experience to do the installation right and brought up himself all the issues and concerns we had thought about in making the conversion and addressed each one thoughtfully.  He never made a hard sell, didn't speak in jargon, and recommended equipment that was appropriate for our property, never pushing for something more expensive.   He gave us an great referral for the asbestos removal we needed.  He has excellent office support by his wife, Mary, who explained how the process would happen and said she would do all the rebate paperwork for us, which was an added plus.  Charlie and Mary were responsive to all our calls and we were very impressed with their excellent customer service. It was clear that they had a lot of integrity and were committed to making this very unsettling and stressful experience as easy as possible for us, without charging all outdoors for the privilege.
We got our estimate with all the details the day after Charlie came to look at our job, we scheduled the work and on the day, everyone showed up on time. All the workers (one of whom was the son, JIm) were friendly, courteous and respectful of the property and our neighbors. In two days, they had disassembled and carted off the old cast iron furnaces and water heaters, installed the new equipment, made sure it all worked, cleaned the place up and taught us what we needed to know for optimum operation of the equipment and what to watch out for if any problems might arise.  Being an old house, there was a lot of complicated plumbing and Charlie reorganized and simplified everything, using good grade materials, clearly marking pipes as he went along. He reassured us he would be back anytime should any concerns arise (and he had done so for my boss, at no charge, when something needed tweaking after the installation).  They carefully sorted out our paperwork and Mary submitted our rebates the next day.
This project was no small feat as at one point, there were 6 guys working in our basement, including plumbers, electricians and inspectors simultaneously.  The coordination needed for this type of project is considerable and it is testament to the experience and efficiency of B&D that it all was done seamlessly.  It was such a quick swap out of equipment, it felt more like a little blip rather than the major project ti really was.  We are looking forward to significantly lower gas bills this winter, and have the greatest confidence and peace of mind in our new high efficiency heating system.  We can recommend this company unreservedly and with the highest enthusiasm - B&D clearly goes the extra mile and was a pleasure to do business with in every way.

I would like to provide feedback on their service visit on June 5th. I had set up that appointment by phone, asking for service records on the HVAC system located in our house, knowing that B&D team was hired by previous owner. In addition to a general condition review of the furnace and A/C unit, I was asking for external piping insulation weather damage repair. It was my understanding that a service fee of $185.00 was expected to cover the labor required to provide the service. When the two associates showed up, they had spent most of their time at the A/C condenser unit. The senior technician also discovered a minor issue with thermostat, which was not properly attached to the wall. At the end, he presented me with a bill for $385.00, which included $200.00 charge for A/C unit Freon refill. I never had a chance to approve the refill service, and was billed after the fact. If I had a chance, I would not approve it. Additionally, the insulation was not repaired, no service records were shared, the thermostat was not reattached to the wall, and the second A/C condenser unit was not even inspected. My expectation from the team coming with very good online ratings would be to see additional charges approved before any work has been complete or supplies used, and also that my request to provide specific services would be addressed.  I have reached out to the business on June 8th, and spoke shortly with two of associates, but none of them were able to find time to contact me with a resolution for last 22 days.

Easy fix to issue - we are new to house and learned lots about our system

Excellent experience.  They worked with us and MassSave for the best configuration.  They were the only ones to recommend the upstairs Fujitsu configuration to replace the dated unit.  They were prompt, professional and answered all of our questions.  Would highly recommend.

It was an absolute pleasure to work with Charlie, Mary, and their sons.  From the beginning, I was very impressed by Charlie.  He gave it to me straight from the very beginning, telling me, "that would be overkill, this would be a good fit, etc.."  There was no nonsense- I felt like he sized it up exactly as if it were his own house.  Charlie was very knowledgeable and at no time tried overselling.  
After interviewing a total of 4 companies, Charlie's price came in at the middle and the number was very reasonable.  
What really won me over was when I asked for a reference customer.  Mary provided the name and phone number for a past customer who lives 2 towns over from me and had a similar system installed by Charlie.  When I called, we literally spoke for about 45 minutes.  Her review and recommendation of the family was glowing!  She also clearly liked the Fujitsu mini-splits.
B&D is a family business.  After signing the contract, Charlie and his two sons came out to do the install over 2 1/2 days.  The whole team was very professional and friendly.  They did very neat work and showed my wife exactly how to use the system.  We also had a great time chit-chatting about family, doing renovation projects, etc.  You can tell that these are really good people.
In summary, the whole experience was fantastic.  I got exactly what I wanted at a reasonable price.  The work was very neat and professional.  The family is very friendly and good people to work with.  They also know their stuff like the back of their hand!   I wish them continued success!

The installation was flawless and they cleaned up totally after the installation.  They also arrived on time and completed the job by the end of the work day.  I would not hesitate to highly recommend them!

I checked all of the causes given to me by the Tech, and low & behold I was able to get the furnace & hot water working again. Then when I couldn't have been happier with my experience, the service tech gave me an unexpected call back to make sure that my heat was working again. I just found my new heating & air conditioning company.

It went very well. They arrived a little later than scheduled, but we're very professional and just plain nice, something you do not see enough of these days.

I chose B&D primarily because of price (for a top of the line Carrier HVAC), but they also happened to be the most personable. It is a family-run business and everyone, from Charlie and his wife, Barbara, who runs the office, son Jimmy, who assists Charlie, to Jimmy's cousin were not only professional, but friendly. Charlie originally underquoted me by $700 since he included the compressor location in the quote. But because he admitted to making a mistake and made a good case of justifying the extra $700, I thought it was fair to pay the price difference. B&D's pricing was still reasonable despite the price increase. Barbara also simplified the MASSAVE process, filing required documents so I could get my rebates quickly and making sure I maximized all possible government and corporate discounts/rebates due me.

He came out for a quote next day after contacting. His quote was a bit higher than few other competitors, but since he has extended warranty from the broiler manufacturer, we decided to go with him. He was very professional throughout the whole process and was on time and finished the job in two days (as proposed). It's hard to tell the quality of work but we don't have any issue so far (only been two weeks). The installation process was smooth. Overall, they did a good job.

Our Air Conditioning System stopped working. We called the company - they told us that the evaporator coil had a leak. Fortunately the coil was in warranty, so it was covered. They charged us $427 to replaced the leaked out refrigerant and labor and truck charge. They did not have the replacement part and said they would come back. The understanding was that we had paid in full and there was no more money to be paid. When they came and replaced the faulty part, they charged close to $300 for labor and truck charge. We called the owner to complain at having charged us twice for the same issue - his reply was that was the way they did business. We were pretty dissatisfied with the reply - we will not go to this company again.

Their service was great. Everything was perfect. They came and we had a problem so they returned that same day. They moved our thermostat so it would be more sensitive to the temperatures in our house because it was running warming than I like it. I had no problems at all with the service and I recommended their services to anyone.

As it came out during the heating season, by leveling the unit the serviceman cracked the connection of the unit to the ductwork and created an 1 inch gap.... I do not know how much we spent heating the attic. It took a lot to fix the problem in January.

It went great, I would highly recommend them.

Charlie came out and give us an estimate right on the spot and he also advised us to contact MassSave to apply for 0% interest rate Loan for 7 years and additional attic work for minimal cost. 
Charlie is knowledgeable, experience and honest about his work and work to be completed. Because they are certified with Triangular Tube they offered additional 5 years of worry free warranty which really puts our minds at ease. 
Charlie and Jimmy are top-notched technicians and answered every question we had. The work took 2 full days because we didn't have a bulkhead, otherwise it would have been completed sooner, and they have never complained even though the old oil furnace weighed 1200 lbs. 
Mary in office answered every call we had and called you back right away, she is invaluable in filling out all the rebate info and getting them to the right utility companies. 
Overall we are extremely happy with the work B&D performed and completed, now we don't even hear the furnace go on when we are downstairs, not to mention how much money we saved on our heating bill last year, and it was the mildest winter we had in years.  We would definitely recommend B&D to all our family and friends.

They have excellent service.  They were outstanding.  He was very friendly and really puts you at ease.  They were very neat when they did the work.  It took them a couple of days, but everything that they did was top-notch.  The quality of the equipment that they sell, which is Triangle Tube, is also top-notch and very highly recommended.

My AC was not working and it turned out the my filters were clogged.  He advised me to change the filters more regularly and even offered that if I could learn to do it myself it would save me money - he told me where to buy the filters and how much to expect to spend.  I would definitely call him with further issues.  I was serviced by the son of the owner.

Out of three Angie's List HVAC companies that came to my home, I really liked this team. It was a father and son who did the work. They were not pushy salespeople and answered all of my questions. Especially those pertaining to rebates ie. cool smart certified.
I even emailed them back several times to help understand the SEER rating. They got back to me each time.
His quote came in just a couple of hundred dollars higher than another company I went with. My main reason for not hiring them was he deals with Carrier AC units and I wanted to go with Trane because that's what I had and it was running fine, even after 20 years!
