ASTRO HARDWOOD FLOORS

I had a very good experience.  I gave a "B" in the responsiveness category only because we kept missing each other initially.  Once the job started we had no communication issues.
I was flexible in the start time of the job and Tim had an opening, so I did not have to wait a long time to start the project.
Tim and his crew started on a Monday and were done on Wednesday.  (I have never had floors refinished, so this was a learning experience for me.)  They isolated the work areas from the rest of the house and covered everything with plastic sheeting.  The amount of dust was kept to a minimum.  Once the floors were completely dry, I had a minimal amount of dust to clean up.
The floors are nearly 100 years old, and now they look brand-new!  I couldn't be more pleased with the results.  The price was very competitive with the other quotes I received.

Everything worked out just fine for us. I thought the company and the workers were extremely nice and intelligent. They got the job complete and I am satisfied.

TIM PHINNEY, THE OWNER, WAS VERY PLEASANT AND OFTEN REACHABLE AT HIS CELL NUMBER, WHICH YOU SHOULD GET FROM HIM. INSTEAD OF APPLYING THE STAIN IN TWO COATS, HE REALLY WANTED TO SAND, THEN WET THE FLOOR TO RAISE THE GRAIN SO IT WOULD HAVE MORE SURFACE AREA EXPOSED TO THE STAIN AND TAKE IT DARKER. BAD IDEA, IT STAYED RATHER ROUGH AND IRREGULAR. INSTALLATION WAS GORGEOUS. ONCE THE FIRST COAT OF POLY WAS APPLIED, WE COULD TELL THAT THE SANDING WAS NOT SO LOVELY, IT SUFFERED FROM (1) SANDING CHATTER MARKS ESPECIALLY 3 FEET FROM END WALLS, (2) IRREGULAR RAISED GRAIN, (3) FLOORING AT THE EDGE OF THE ROOM DOVE DOWN WHERE THEY USED THE EDGER TOOL TOO AGGRESSIVELY, (4) BOOGIES WHERE DUST OR PERHAPS BITS OF THEIR MOP WERE STUCK INSIDE THE POLY, (5) SANDING SWIRLS WHERE THEY HAD SWITCHED GRIT TOO SOON FROM COARSER TO FINER. TIM DID RETURN AND RESAND THE FLOOR, MAINTAINING HIS COMPOSURE, BUT HIS WORKER WAS IN A REALLY FOUL MOOD THEREAFTER!

TIM PHINNEY AND HIS WORKERS DID AN EXCELLENT JOB. THE JOB WAS SCHEDULED 4-6 WEEKS IN ADVANCE OF OUR PURCHASING A NEW HOME, AND TIM STARTED WORK THE DAY AFTER WE CLOSED, ALLOWING US TO REFINISH THE FLOORS BEFORE WE MOVED IN. THIS IS THE THIRD TIME IN THE PAST 11 YEARS I HAVE USED ASTRO IN MY HOMES, AND EACH TIME THEY HAVE PERFORMED EXCEPTIONALLY WELL. WORKERS ARE COURTEOUS, FLOORS ARE FINISHED WITH NO MISTAKES, AND ALL EDGING AND CORNERS WERE METICULOUSLY FINISHED. AT THE END OF THE JOB, WE FELT THE STAIRS DID NOT LOOK QUITE AS GOOD AS THE REST OF THE FLOORS. TIM SCHEDULED LIGHT SAND AND A 4TH COAT OF FINISH WITHOUT HASSLE OR ADDITIONAL COST. I WOULD GLADLY HIRE THEM AGAIN.
