A free consultation was easily arranged, in which I felt immediately very comfortable because the arborist understood my desire to preserve my trees if possible and gave recommendations in that regard, but he also made me aware of existing risks. After two estimates with different alternatives, an appointment was quickly made.
The company was on time, and the work was done in an outstandingly safe and professional manner. All debris was well removed afterwards. Nothing was damaged, as all steps seemed well planned and cautiously executed.
I wanted two of removed the trees replaced by something new, but since I do not have enough knowledge, left the choice up to the arborist. He picked according to the budget that was given and delivered great quality trees. The planting was done very neatly, and I am very happy with the overall result.
I was very impressed of how these guys could drop a tree on a dime! They took their time, fully prepped the tree before dropping it and would place it exactly where they targeted.
I had a new lawn and was very concerned, and fully expected, it would be somewhat tore up. The trees they needed to get to required the machinery cross the lawn but they again took the time necessary to lay down protection and a tire never touched the lawn. The one large Oak in the middle of the yard was also removed flawlessly, taking it down piece by piece and lowering each to the ground. Not a blemish!
I had other estimates and all were similar. Sam was the lowest by a bit so I know his prices are fair and competitive. He provided a detailed written quote before the work was started.
Overall, you can't go wrong with Foppema and will be happy with this choice.
We have about 2 acres of mostly wooded property including many tall hardwoods; our house and yard sit in the middle of the lot. After 30-40 years since the center of the lot was originally cleared for the house and yard, many of the treetops around the perimeter of the cleared area had grown out over the yard and roof. We also had a few dead trees in the woods away from the house, some that had partially fallen into other healthy trees. Sam came out several times to discuss what to do, helped me understand what was possible and reasonable, and helped build a plan to trim the tops of some big oaks I really wanted to keep, remove about 6 big hickories, 3 of which were very close to the house, remove an ash that had begun leaning into our power line, remove a handful of dead trees in the woods, and take out a bunch of small birches to give the yard more sun. As I said above, it was a big job. The kicker was that I didn't want anyone driving a truck into the back yard - we'd had a previous service do that and the ruts took years to fill in. So Sam and his team did pretty much everything by hand, climbing and using ropes to lower branches and pieces of trunk to the ground. The ash tree against the power line required a zip line to bring the upper branches down safely away from the wires. All the removal was done safely and quickly and they did a great job cleaning up. Some unexpected work that came up as the job was in progress was handled easily and without a big addition to the bill.
Finally, I'd like to add that it's great to see someone who not only knows his craft, but really enjoys it. I think it's much more likely one gets good results and good service.
We'll certainly have more work in the future and Sam will certainly be my first, and likely only, call.
