About us

In early 2003, Rick Fulton had a problem with one of his home PCs and needed to find an expert to help him fix it. After extensively searching in the local telephone book and the web, it looked like he had found a place to do the work. He unplugged all those wires…printers, modems, and iPods – then carried the PC down the steps out to his car and set off to find the repair shop. After getting lost, he eventually found the repair shop. He lugged the computer through the narrow door and dropped it on the front counter. The “helpful” teenager at the counter told Rick he would call in a few days. A week later he was told the hard drive was damaged and the PC would be fixed in 4 days. Four days later, he went to pick-up the PC and found the door was locked and the business closed due to a death in the family. Two weeks later he finally got his computer back along with an outrageous repair bill. There had to be a better way! Over the next 2 or 3 months, Rick thought about how frustrating his recent experience with computer repair shops had been and decided to do something about it. There was, however, a big problem – he didn’t know the first thing about fixing a computer! Rick’s expertise was in marketing, sales, and running profitable companies. So now what? He spent the next year talking to anyone who would give him 5 minutes about the computer repair industry. After hundreds of telephone calls, countless hours of research, and numerous in-person interviews… it became very clear. Being able to fix a computer was not the problem! In fact, there were plenty of “computer repair entrepreneurs” trying to make a living at fixing computers who were miserable failures. The problem wasn’t whether they could fix a computer. The problem was they couldn’t find enough customers on a continuous basis to make their business work for them. And the very few who could find enough customers got buried under the operational logistics of a managing a computer repair business. A business was born! Rick created a system by which a person with intelligence and drive could successfully develop and grow a computer service business and he began to Franchise it under the Lucky Gorilla trademark. The Leger family of the Worcester area purchased one of the first Lucky Gorilla franchises in 2007 and grew it into the large, regional, on-site computer services company that it is today. And now with the Capital infusion and industry experience of the owners, the goal of Lucky Gorilla is to expand the geographical reach and breadth of its computer-related services to customers in need throughout the state of Massachusetts. The Mantra is simple: Fast & friendly service Competitive pricing Expert technicians From all of our Team here at Lucky Gorilla Computer Services, we look forward to servicing your technology needs. That was fine. They were on time and they were professional. It was the same price as the "Big Deal." They ended up not doing any repairs. My computer didn't need any repairs. It was hacked earlier that month. I just wanted to make sure there was nothing on it. He didn't find anything on it. The young gentleman was knowledgeable.

Basically the tech had little to no knowledge of MS Office 365, Outlook and iphones.  Together he and I were able to work out the issue with MS Outlook and onedrive by looking up things on google...but I could have done that without him.  Admittedly it can be helpful to have two heads instead of one...but I thought I was paying $88/hr for an expert to save me my time, which I bill for much more.  In discussions with the tech, who was quite personable...it seems that Lucky Gorilla has shifted their business model to subcontractors to service its anchor customers and really only has this one tech now.  I was hoping to find a local provider with a high level of expertise who I could rely on to be able to support my home office IT needs efficiently and effectively.  I feel like I paid $88/hr to a tech with $44/hr expertise.  Next time I will offer the money to one of my IT friends instead.

He returned the next day to see if I had resolved the printer problem. Since he was carrying a Western Digital Passport on both occasions I asked him to take me through the steps needed to see and check my data. He was completely unable to deal with that but his fiddling with the device left me with five versions of all of my files on my monitor, three in code, one blocked helter-skelter version of my files and a fifth helter-skelter but accessible version. My repeated calls for him to come back and fix this problem were unanswered.

I had a techie come out from Boston and he, with considerable difficulty, moved the three sets in code back to where they belonged. The blocked, helter-skelter version of all of my files could not be completely sorted out and is probably responsible for the ongoing problems that I am having with my files. I am in the  final phase of a project that I spent several years researching in Germany and Austria and find myself continually struggling with duplicates or more copies of my files popping up, sometimes exact duplicates but sometimes an earlier version. Other files get lost in the depths of my computer and have to be recovered. Attempts at deleting or moving these wayward files has impacted the rest of my files and as a result a complete overhall of my filing system is not an option.

I recently tried to reorganize many of my files, an effort that has exacerbated this duplication problem.

When I bought the WD Passport someone in their office walked me through the inner workings of this external drive. On that occasion she said that she had never seen such a beautifully organized computer.

Which was the result of many years of work at my computer. It is a problem that can not now be corrected.

Ray of Lucky Gorilla completely destroyed the structure of my files. It is also worth noting that he did not know that the transfer of data to the external drive was automatic, and seemed reluctant to believe this until I showed him the manual.
Response from Lucky Gorilla Computer Services
"The customer previously attempted to accuse our company of data loss a couple of months ago. We have sent our best technicians on filed, Jay Elfman and Ray Baldez to try to fix his problem which was out of scope. First time the customer called about his issue, as far as we know WD passport back up software normally encrypts its data and prevent data theft and it works 100% of the time, the way his passport was set up when tech (Ray Baldez) arrived on site was not to back up properly, so he set up the way it should been. If there was a way of possible losing data tech wouldn't have done it and instead ind an alternative solution. We strongly believe he does not understand how back up work on WD and it has led to this outcome."

First of all, I just have to say that Ray, the head technician, is Awesome! It was incredibly easy to book an appointment with him. The folks at Lucky Gorilla contacted me via email and cell phone several times before I was able to fit this into my schedule. They were very prompt. Ray called exactly 1 minute before our scheduled time. He is very courteous, professional, highly intelligent and knowledgeable, and laid back. He's very easy to work with and to talk to. He did every single thing on the list of the Angie's List deal, and more. I was incredibly impressed by how he confidently took charge of my PC remotely, and knew exactly what to do in every area. He is incredibly thorough, and was very kind, patient and attentive to my questions and problems (even though I hopped around all over the place about my questions - Ray kept up with no problems!). He was so helpful in recommending certain programs, informing me about common recent viruses, conducting full scans of everything, taught me how to download my music on iTunes to my cell phone, and taught me how to look up and check different things on my PC. The problems on my computer have been bothering me for a long time, but now I know that I'm starting from a good place and feel confident that my PC is working optimally, and empowered that I know how to check a couple things myself. I can't thank Ray enough for his help. I'm definitely going to ask for his assistance in the future, and am very happy to recommend him to my friends. Overall, a terrific experience and deal. Very happy indeed. Thanks Ray - you Rock!!!

"Hi (member name removed), my name is Jay Elfman, owner of Lucky Gorilla. I am very sorry you had such a disappointing experience with our company last spring. We had a technician that caused us a great deal of grief during this time period, but that has long since been resolved. Should you require any technical help in the future, I would like to offer you the first half hour free of charge and I would promise to visit you personally to get the job done. Again, I apologize for your past frustration with us."

This review really has two sections. Start with the good: the person who came to my house, Ray, was excellent. He fixed a few things that I could not have fixed and got the laptop connected to the Internet and running a lot better than it had been. I was thrilled with the results, and he was very nice also. He gave me a discount because of the problems setting up the visit.
The second part of the review is about the staff at the office. The first time I set up an appt, no one showed up. I called back and the person on the phone rescheduled the appt for the next day. However, she did not tell the technician about this appt, and he did not show up. Finally he called me himself to apologize and scheduled a Sunday AM visit, which he kept and was very prompt about. I think the and quot;officeand quot; staff needs a lot of work at this company.

Cleaned out my computer, detected and corrected a probable virus and cleaned out the hard drive (defragging). Instructed me to defrag from time to time and set me up with Google Chrome since I was having an awful time with IE. With the exception that he was 40 min late because of a 'scheduling error'. I thought the service was very good.

Called Lucky Gorilla because my computer was crashing and freezing constantly. I had already done what I could through the clean-up and optimization tools and hardware checks, but could not find the problem.
They sent a technician out who ran a diagnostic, removed unneeded programs and restructured the boot. Unfortunately, the fix did not stick and problems resurfaced a few days later. Luck Gorilla then sent a second technician out, at no cost, who checked the hardware (it was fine), did a deeper troubleshoot and repair (including digging out residual traces of old virus protection software I had uninstalled that was fighting with my current one). The system has been working as good as new ever since.
I would use them again.

The work was good as was the price (and in home service). They had advertised quick turnaround, so my expectations here were a little high compared to what they delivered (it took a couple of weeks to get the laptop back). I also found their communication about where they were in the process lacking (I had to reach out a few times to understand where they were in the process.)

My laptop had been less than dependable for several months and I finally had to make a choice of trying to have it repaired vs buying a new one. Checked Angie's List and found the Lucky Gorilla. I called the company around 2:00 p.m, on Monday, they picked it up at 6:00 p.m and it was returned to me at 3:00 p.m on Tuesday! I couldn't believe it! I dealt with their rep., Erica, from start to finish. She was professional, friendly, and informative. She said she would pick the laptop up at 6:00 p.m - she did. Said she would call next morning to update me on what was done and any additional work recommended- she did. She said she would return the laptop to me at 3:00 p.m. - she did! My laptop is now running as it was designed to run, and I am thrilled not to have to buy a new one. I highly recommend the Lucky Gorilla .

I was totally impressed with the Lucky Gorilla staff's planning, preparation, research and development of our new website. My ideas were not only listened to, but were refined and brought back to me by their staff to my total satisfaction. My entire experience with the Lucky Gorilla staff was entirely pleasurable. I would say without a doubt that they are true professionals in their field.
