Job was done 9/11/12 and we didn't have weather to give it a good test until following May of 2013 when the system didn't cool. At that time company came out and supposedly fixed the problems but didn't. After many calls & appointments were not kept, and some that were, but only cooled the attic, not the house.
We hired 2 different companies to give us an idea of what to do. Both agreed the system was not installed correctly
We ended up having to pay another company $3005.00 to remove completely and install ductwork with major modifications.
We sent the owner Eric Michael Chaffee a registered letter explaining the cost to fix his work that he did not fulfill the warrantee, and attempts by the Post Office went unsigned for.
When we ended the summer the house was cool and attic insulation no longer flowing through the ducts to coat us inside.

He came on short notice and he had to use my ladder because he wasn’t prepared to go up and look at the duct work on the initial visit.  He went up anyway and looked at the system; that wasn’t easy to do given the position of the system.  He knew right away what we needed and it was confirmed by someone who was doing repairs on our system.  Those things coincided so well we decided we needed to use him.  They sent someone over the day I called them and they did the work the following week.  I called on Friday and they started on Monday.  I gave them the job and they jumped right into it.  We got a referral from a friend and we chose them because of the quickness of their response and the fact that they would look at the whole system.  The estimate was right where it should be.  The guy that sold it was also the lead on the installment.  The positive thing was that they left so much good technical information all the way along.  They told us what they were doing, what they were going to do, and what problems they were having.  We could see that nothing was hacked together and everything was done with neatness.  A lot of care of taken to do the job personally for us.  He made sure we understood the problems and why there were delays.  It was a good experience all the way around.

We got a couple of quotes to replace the cast iron sewer pipes in our basement (rusting, starting to develop pinhole leaks) and Assured Service was both the lowest quote and the company we got the best "vibe" off of.  Originally they thought the project would take 1.5 days but when the date for the replacement came, they brought extra workers and completed the project in half the time.
We were concerned about how the basement would be left imagining what kind of sludge would come out of the pipes as they were removed.  Assured Service did an excellent job cleaning the basement floor, with no residue left behind.
The workers were pleasant and professional and this project I was concerned about happened more smoothly than I could have hoped.
While Assured Service was at the house they noticed a natural gas pipe that had started to rust (!!) and replaced it the same day.
I would certainly call them again for plumbing work.

For our big furnace/water heater job, first time we used them, the quoting process was good and very professional.  I had multiple bids and their price was acceptable (a little high, but they seemed to research things better).  Now several years later, the job is not complete.  Several small problems, leaks and the like.  Turns out they also installed the wrong pressure relief valve, and I have a gurgling noise during the winter whenever the heater is on.  I have tried several times to get them to replace it, they say they will, but then it doesn't happen.  One time they were to come and do it, I stayed home to meet them, and they never showed up or called.  When I called them back I had a rather rude telephone conversation telling me it was my fault - because the did call me but didn't leave a message on my answering machine, but that was sufficient from their perspective.

On another service visit, they also replaced my back flow preventer, they used a unit that was clearly less quality and inappropriate for the installation (below grade installation with a unit only certified for above grade).  It was obvious they used the wrong unit, because they removed the higher end one.  To their credit, they did replace it later without cost or complaint - just should have been done right the first time.

Later I had a problem with a drain pipe in a bathtub.  I asked for their help.  I had already opened the wall so the problem was clearly visible.  They used their fixed-price book and said it would be $1,200 to repair.  I told them to skip it, and I did it my self in less than two hours and under $50 in parts.  The complaint here isn't so much about their service, but the general complaint I have with "from the book" plumbing services - which charge based on a flat book rather, rather than on your particular needs.

Overall, they know their stuff and do quality work, but fail to follow thru to completion and price things based "on the book" and not on your specific problem.
Response from Assured Service Plumbing Heating & A/C
"Our apologies for the way that you feel. We considered us to have a good working relationship - which you stated in your review of our company, "they know their stuff and do quality work." The safety valve was the cause of the leak mentioned, and to our knowledge that is the only leak or problem with the system. The manufacturer did send the wrong safety device with the boiler, unknowingly it was installed. We realized this when the member called stating there was a leak. We came right out and realized the problem immediately, which we also found very odd considering it came with the boiler. We since replaced the safety valve, and are very apologetic for the time it took. It was not an emergency *as the member also stated to us* and we did not prioritize it like it should have been prioritized. Also, the member called us back to have us come look at a large job for gas piping at his home, only a few short weeks ago, for a new gas back-up generator. We were very surprised to see this unsatisfactory review on Angie's List."

They came and replaced a capacitor in our air conditioning system as a temporary repair and it lasted no more than 5 minutes. We had a warm and fuzzy feeling when they told us we could use the money spent on a new system down the road. I had them come and quote a new system, which they gave a good price for. However, when I had others come in to evaluate the situation, there were a lot of holes in their quote and I was not comfortable doinb business with them. They also did not use the major brands that you want people to use for high quality work such as Carrier and Tran. They did not address any access issues which all the other companies did. This should have been a major consideration in their quote considering we live in Beacon Hill (very small area to work) on the top floor. Their upfront quote was the cheapest but there was no thought put into it and considering all the other companies were confused as to why the capacitor was replaced in the first place. Our system was clearly broken and no other fix was possible except a new system. This seemed like it was just a ploy to get the whole job and charge for a service call. I would not do business with them again.
Response from Assured Service Plumbing Heating & A/C
"Replacement of an aging and broken furnace is always the best case scenario, however, not every one likes to or can afford to put the money out for this kind-of solution. This is why we always try a repair option first, then if that repair option does not last we credit back the entire repair cost towards a new system. We usually do not put in our quote the way a furnace will arrive, be carried in, or be set in place. We would like to think our customers know that it will be done in the most efficient and best way possible. We install many different brands of equipment, usually anything that the customer recommends. However, we do recommend Tappan - solely because it has the best warranty in the industry and we have had very good results with this brand. We hope that the company you chose reached your expectations and wish you only the best!"

Fast service. At first, A/C didn't get resolved. Next day A/C was fixed. Pricey, I felt $150 for 30 min or work that didn't fix was excessive.

"We are very sorry that you feel you over paid for your repair and that we had to come back. This is a great situation to mention our 2 years parts & labor warranty on everything that we do! The next day there was no charge for our visit and you now have Air Conditioning on an aging unit."

The owner, Eric Chaffee, helped me out by accommodated my schedule with Saturday visit to give a quote on job. Gave useful information about the 2 products he gave me quotes on. Also sent me information about the new tax breaks tied to heat & hot water systems. He warned me about needing to shut down water & heat for the installation. I had quotes on 2 other systems from another party, but felt Eric had more experience and better demeanor. When I made the final decision, they were able to schedule install for the week I requested. Team showed up and went straight to work. All 3 of them were very polite. My boiler was quite old & far from light. They moved it out of the way, but will be returning to have it removed once ground is a bit firmer. Install ended up taking day and a half in total due to age of my home & previous set up they ran into some delays, but system is up and running. Very quiet & functioning like a dream! Very good follow up on how things are functioning and information on timing of final removal of old boiler. I would definitely use them again & have recommended them to a friend for when they are ready to make this update on their heating system.

Always fantastic service. They will try to fix something rather than "try to sell you a new ", whichever is most economical (and they point out both short- and long-term considerations). Eric is amazing, and can really be counted on. Importantly, he LISTENED to us. A very hard-to-diagnose problem was only fixed correctly because he DID listen to what we said "was happening", even though it wasn't happening at the time he was there. Our heating costs improved dramatically. His crew is polite, and they leave the place very clean, regardless of the type or amount of work. Our experiences couldn't have been better (other than not needing service in the first place ;-)

Basically we weren't sure if the sink was clogged or the disposal was going out. He charged us $350 just to look at it. He said that off the record he would take $100 cash to complete the job, that way the office wouldn't charge us a larger price. My wife was the only one there, and I feel as if he absolutely took advantage of the situation and overcharged her in addition.

"OUR COMPANY WAS NOT AWARE OF THIS SITUATION UNTIL SEEING THIS POST. THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN HAS SINCE BEEN TERMINATED. WE HAVE A ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY FOR UNETHICAL TECHNICIANS THAT DOESN'T HAVE OUR CUSTOMERS BEST INTEREST AT HEART. OUR BUSINESS IS BASED ON REPEAT CUSTOMERS... WE REQUIRE NOTHING LESS THAN HONESTY AND INTEGRITY FROM ALL OF OUR SERVICE TECHNICIANS. OUR DEEPEST APOLOGIES."

They arrived on time and had good communication. It was a problem with the wiring of the thermostat, but Eric, the owner, drove out the same day at 10 p.m to re-do the wiring. Furthermore, Eric sent us a customized washable replacement filter. In addition, Assured Service sent us a discount for spring time air conditioning service. Therefore, although the price seems a bit high (about 1,000 dollars) when combined with the coupon Assured prices are competitive while their service is outstanding.

The furnace of our rented home needed to be replaced (10 years ago!) and after a lot of messing around my landlord finally hired a quality outfit. Eric and his team came in swiftly, took charge of the very messy situation, got the go-ahead to do the work and within 24 hours a whole new heating system was in place and is working excellently (we've tested it for 10 days now). Eric was also kind enough to do a quick check and fix on the furnace of a neighboring and did not charge for this. Note: as my landlord paid for this I do not know the exact figures involved.

They were late to hook up the dryer. They do not bill by time, but by the job, and would not tell me how much it would be until they got there. The price was a bit high, but I had no choice at that point. After installing the dryer, they said they'd take care of the permit and inspection. Weeks went by and I assumed that everything was all set. I called the city to find out whether it had been inspected and no permit had been filed. To make a long story short, it took about 15 phone calls, 2 months, an inquiry with the Better Business Bureau, and allegedly 2 more tries on their part to get the permit filed before it finally got inspected. The whole experience was sub-optimal.

"THE MEMBER IS VERY MUCH IN THE RIGHT IN THIS SITUATION. WE HAD ACTUALLY TRIED TO SAVE TIME BY MAILING IN HIS PERMIT FORM WITH A CHECK AND IT DID NOT GO SMOOTHLY, NEEDLESS TO SAY. OUR APOLOGIES TO HIM. WE WERE IN A LITTLE BIT OF A BIND, HAVING ALREADY FILED ONE PERMIT BY MAIL AND NOT KNOWING IF IT WAS ACTUALLY GOING TO PROCESS OR NOT. IT WAS A LITTLE BIT OF A WAITING GAME AT THE END, AT HIS EXPENSE, UNFORTUNATELY. WE HAVE LEARNED A HARD LESSON BECAUSE OF THIS SITUATION AND DO NOT MAIL IN PERMITS AT ALL ANY MORE! AGAIN, OUR APOLOGIES."

Very professional and nice. They left my kitchen very clean. Later I found out it was actually the owner of the company helping me turn off my valve. Before he left, he even tagged all of my valves so that the next time I'll know what to do. This is a company that I would recommend to family & friends. Thanks Eric!
