The A/C recharge went fine.  Unfortunately, they were not able to liberate the CD and the player was not repairable.  The service rep suggested that we shop around for a new CD player/radio, i.e., they didn't attempt to sell me a Subaru brand replacement.   (I ended up buying one from Best Buy.  It was about $200 less expensive than Subaru's OEM player.)

The following day instead of eating lunch I drove up 26 miles to North Reading Subaru, had to wait for a good few minutes until Mike was done with other paperwork, and only after test drive does he tell me that “his general manager” is not interested in the aftermarket stereo and will only offer $13,000 for the car. He could have consulted the GM for two minutes the previous day and told me as much over the phone, which would allow me the option of deciding whether I am interested or not in driving up to possibly transact under those terms, but instead he let me drive up 26 miles only to find out that he either didn't even bother reading my email before responding to it positively or worse - deliberately tried to lure me in and then face-to-face corner me with a lowball offer, hoping that I am stressed financially and also lying about having another offer at $18,500 (which I wasn't). WHETHER LAZINESS OR DISHONESTY, THIS DEALER WASTED MY TIME AND I HOPE HE DOESN'T WASTE YOURS.

"Hi, I would like to know if you actually sold the car for the 18,500. Considering that we do this every day there is a pretty good chance that it was not worth what you are claiming. As far as an aftermarket stereo, there is a good chance that can actually bring down the value of a vehicle to someone who wants it to be original. As far as your experience with us, is it possible that our general manager could have been out the previous day? Please tell me if you were treated unkindly or without respect at any time during your visit. Did you ask Mike why he felt that you should come up? I am sorry that you feel your time was wasted but to make the assertion that we are either lazy or dishonest speaks more to your character than to ours. We offer our vehicle buy program as a service to those that don't want to put the time or effort in themselves. However, to expect retail pricing from a dealership is misguided at best, and we should have done a better job letting you know that we are a business that intended to make some money from your car after we bought it from you."
