Truly discreditable conduct by Callahan HVAC. This is our first-ever home. Never used/dealt with HVAC or basements before. Used Callahan HVAC to service our HVAC in Nov-2023. Never use our basement so in Dec-2023 when we took our guest on a house tour, we realized that basement was partly flooded. Turns out that the HVAC water condenser pump was not plugged back in by the Callahan technician when he was performing service - and this flooded our basement, rot our wood, and brought mold on wood and carpet. Informed Callahan in December and repeatedly several days and weeks but either got no response or was bumped here and there by Rick Miles, Maggie Callahan and Kate Callahan. Finally in April-2024, Kate Callahan calls me and accuses me of flooding my own basement and blaming it on them. Disgisting behaviour that I am sure they wouldn't want to be on the other end of and yet had the dishonorable act. I got everything fixed thanks to my insurance. But I have never done business with a more unethical and frankly dishonest company as Callahan HVAC is. I have every single call recording and the email chains, so I truly welcome Callahan HVAC to disprove anything I've said above.

They arrived promptly, performed the maintenance in a reasonable amount of time, explained what was done. I've used this company for years. They installed the A/C system several years ago. I would definitely recommend them.

Very well, the workmen came on time, completed the job as agreed , cleaned up after themselves. Couldn't ask for much more.

I had dealt with them on a lot of smaller things. I'm kicking myself for not going with them for the bigger things and now I will never go to anybody else because I have nothing but great things to say about them, everybody they've always sent out. They were pretty quick to get it resolved. I haven't had any problems since.

Fantastic.
The details:
The original quote was for $400 more using a different device. My own research led me to a device I thought was better. They looked into and it fit the job. The device I suggested turned out to be better regarded and less expensive. Callahan reduce the quote to pass that savings on to me.
They had a team of two guys that did the bulk of the installation. The team worked with me to find a location for the device and ventilation ducting. They balanced my needs, minimize disruption to basement and quiet operation, and ensuring that the installation was up to code and properly installed to be effective at ventilating the office room.
I was very impressed with their attention to detail. The cuts in the wall and ceiling of my office were perfect. No extra damage to ceiling tiles or drywall were present. The duct work to the outside is very well insulated and the fit and finish is top notch.
I now have fresh air in my basement office and it is wonderfully quiet.
Finding a service with my level of OCD is a rare thing. I will definitely use Callahan for all my HVAC needs in the future.

People answering the phone should be more knowledgable about the services they provide. Their maintenance guys were very professional and courteous. If you are looking for a straight maintenance contract for filter changes they are suitable. Anything extra go elsewhere.
Response from CALLAHAN A/C & HEATING SERVICES
"[member name removed] I want to first apologize for the customer service you received, we as a company work very hard to provide great customer service both from our office staff and our field technicians. We currently have four people answering phones who have each been with the company for many years and could answer any question you may have. Unfortunately we had hired a new office assistant in February and she must have taken your call. We realized very quickly that she was not really able to help us and is no longer working for us. Again, I apologize for your bad experience and hope you will give us another shot to make a good impression. Carol"

Callahan absolutely SAVED ME from an enormous amount of heartache and expense. If I hadn’t had the wherewithal to call them when I did, it would have been an utter disaster. I tried to “save money” by having a very competent and consciences handyman look at my boiler which had suddenly stopped working. We had gotten advice over the phone from the company that installed the system and he diagnosed the issue with complete confidence as being a faulty control box. The handyman downloaded specs for a “workaround” from the Internet to override the “limit switch” that was shutting the boiler down. I was starting to get uncomfortable with this kind of and quot;improvisingand quot; and remembered the last time I had Callahan deal with an issue, they did so with complete confidence. It wasn’t cheap but he knew what he was doing and unlike the previous company, they just charged for the hours they were there with no additional fee just for coming out.
I greeted the technician at the door with all my information about what I “knew” the issue to be and while I chattered away, he literally “felt” his way around the pipes. “That has nothing to do with it-here’s yer trouble right here” (pointing to a corroded
valve that was clogged on the inside, preventing the water from getting where it needed to go.) Had I persisted one step more on the other (“cheaper”) path, it would have cost me over $10,000. He worked VERY diligently for four hours (I stayed out of his hair!) and at one point stopped to get me and warn me that he had to remove a pipe that was corroded enough to possibly break and if that happened it was the worst-case scenario. I braced myself and said “Okay-what am I praying for?” and Phil said “You’re praying this pipe here doesn’t break” and thankfully we BOTH said hallelujah! In the end it cost me $700 which is a WHOLE
LOT BETTER than $10,000. The moral of the story is, next time, call the expert first and just let him do his thing because this is NOT HIS FIRST RODEO!

installation went fine, but some of the settings were not correct and the system has a code only for the technician, which means the tech must come down. This would be fine if the tech would answer our calls for a system not fuctioning right. We can't get some rooms to heat above 60 degrees, while others are very warm, We have a service contract and no one has responded to our calls for a tech to come dowm. After hours, when there is supposed to be emergency service, their phone just rings and rings.

In August 2012 we hired Callahan AC and Heating to move a radiator in one of our second floor bedrooms. John was prompt, came out, did the job, and we were told that all we had to do was connect the radiator when we were ready and it would be all set. We paid $121.52 for materials and $315.00 for 3 hours of labor. Fast forward to this April, the room was finally complete and my husband connected the radiator...nothing happened so we called and asked for someone to come back out to figure out what was wrong. John came, on time, walked up and down the stairs a couple of times, called his boss (not sure why), and came to tell us that the pipe in the basement leading to this radiator was not connected. This was when we realized that apparently he had not checked to make sure the work he had done in August actually worked. If we had known that the pipe was disconnected we would have paid to him reconnect it then. Also, in August he made several trips to the basement so we do not understand why he hadn't discovered this before. I guess we were naive to think that when you hire an and quot;expertand quot;, they fully research the job and don't leave until they are sure the job is complete and properly functioning.
Well, he ended up charging me $120 in labor, he charged me for a full 1hr of labor when he was here maybe 1/2 hr and DID NOT do any labor, just came out and told me that this pipe was disconnected. When I prompted him on how much it would cost to reconnect he danced around the issue and would not give me a quote, just kept saying it was easy but that he couldn't be sure how long it would take and he didn't want to give me an inaccurate quote...okay, then why was I being charged $120?? To come and tell me something you should have figured out the first time you came and did work??
My husband called to discuss the matter and we found that Mr. Callahan's customer service was just as lacking as the work his employee had done in our house. He seemed to think it was fine that we were charged for labor when no labor had taken place. When pressed about the fact that his employee had not properly tested his work to make sure that it did in fact work, he didn't seem to comprehend that this should have been done. I wished we had walked away then, but because this is our baby's nursery, my husband just wanted the work done so we had John come back the next day and for another $230 ($10 materials $220 labor!) the radiator is finally working (Oh PS, the did not refund the $120 we were charged for John and quot;showing upand quot;).
This all was very disheartening because we thought we had finally found a company that we could work with. We have radiators in every room and every one of them needs to be moved/fixed, but we will never use Callahan AC and Heating again. John is very nice, but we feel this company lacks professionalism , is extremely overpriced, and they do not value their customers.
