"Mr. and Mrs. [Member Name Removed], thank you for your kind review. We appreciate our pricing is higher than others; in an effort to attract the top painters our customers deserve we hire only legally employable craftsmen and women, perform drug tests and background checks, offer training, paid time off, health and retirement benefits to our staff once they are vested. We feel this practice serves us well and helps us maintain the high standards our customers expect. Our thanks again, for your business, and to the Newton designer who suggested you contact us. Sincerely, Nigel"
"[member name removed], our thanks for your generous review. We enjoyed working with you and look forward to our warranty inspection of your home for the next 3 years. Sincerely, Nigel Costolloe Owner"
"Dear [removed member name], many thanks for your kind review of our company. We appreciate all the As! We understand completely the C we received for our pricing; we decided a long time ago to hire only professional painters, people of character, courtesy and integrity. In order to attract and retain such high calibre employees we offer health insurance, retirement benefits and vacations. While this is unusual in our industry and makes us more expensive, we feel it helps ensure the painter who enters your home is not a transient, occasional tradesman working for minimum wage, but a competent and skilled craftsman or woman who can be trusted to deliver both excellent service and skills. We look forward to our next opportunity to work with you. Sincerely, Nigel Costolloe Owner"
"[member name removed], it was a pleasure working with you on your new home and I thank you for your kind words. We dodged a lot rain drops for most of the spring but waiting for finer weather paid off in the end. We'll be by later this spring to inspect the siding and trim as part of our 3 year warranty - if we find anything in need of touch up, we'll take care of it promptly. Best, Nigel"
"Member, thank you for such a generous review! We enjoyed working with you. You used our Painter for a Day service which fit perfectly with your project - we're glad you enjoyed our company for the day! Best, Nigel"
When the time came to start the job, a swarm of workers arrived. The prep work was very thorough, and I feel pretty confident that this thoroughness will give my house long lasting good looks. I was a little surprised but grateful at the thoroughness of each day's clean-up. I expected some clean-up but at the end of each day they cleaned up like it was the last. When they painted, they thoroughly covered everything that wasn't to be painted. When they sprayed, they were very careful to eliminate possible overspray. I've had enough of overspray on my cars from when my neighbor's house was painted (twice), so I'm sensitive about that. I've also noticed how many of my neighbors had their walkways, bushes and other non-house things splattered with paint by other painters. They also took care not to trample my plantings around the house. The actual painting was excellent. I'm picky and observant, and I was hard-pressed to find any mistakes, and I checked with binoculars. The foreman, Iraldo, was friendly and professional. He was much more picky and observant than I am, and there were no mistakes. The whole job went smoothly and as expected. Iraldo communicated every step along the way. I think an excellent job was done.
Catchlight is a high-end company and their price reflected that. I think the price was fair - you get what you pay for. I expect the house will continue to look good for years to come, and when it's time to paint again I'll call Catchlight.
"thank you for your detailed and generous review! We enjoyed working with you and look forward to repainting your home in another 10-15 years....we will be by each spring to inspect our work, especially the southern elevation which had the delamination issue you mentioned. When we took samples of paint from that wall and examined the shingle side of the sample under a microscope we saw a thick layer of cellulose or wood fiber - this confirmed our analysis of the cause of the peeling. When new wood is installed on a house without primer and left to weather for a season, the cellulose is quickly damaged by ultraviolet radiation - the original painter failed to account for this so the coating failed prematurely. I know, I sound like a paint nerd....but I should be given the nature of our business! Best, Nigel Costolloe Owner, Catchlight, Inc."
"I truly regret that your experience working with Catchlight has left you dissatisfied. Please allow me to address some of the points you raise in your review. Scheduling your project was not initially problematic, but procuring the specialty paint you chose did result in a start date delay because the paint, unavailable in Boston, had to be imported form England. Once paint arrived, both your schedule and ours influenced the project’s commencement. Please recall that we performed additional work for you at no charge, because we were unable to immediately reschedule your project. Our initial estimate anticipated working in a vacant space, however, by the time your paint arrived and the project was rescheduled, you had moved in. We are happy to work in empty or occupied spaces, but there is a distinct difference. I appreciate that having your condo painted following your move in date only added to the already stressful process of moving. It is our goal never to allow paint to speckle on adjacent trim or flooring, but sometimes this occurs and we of course address this on our own time. An issue like this may be due to painter error or challenging paint characteristics (some paints are viscous, some thin, so how they handle varies - the English paint is especially prone to this but nonetheless, its our problem, not yours). We cannot prevent every mishap, but we can -- and always do -- correct problems that arise. I again apologize for the paint speckles that indeed got onto your baseboard and for the drop that landed on your floor, but I also understand that all paint was immediately removed – and to your complete satisfaction - as the job proceeded. Two coats of each color were applied, as promised, and we understood the colors to be appropriately saturated upon completion. We seek to leave each customer not just satisfied, but genuinely delighted. Had I known of your dissatisfaction, I would have been happy to address any and all of your concerns, as I communicated in my last email. I remain available to discuss your project further and resolve any lingering issues, free of charge. Sincerely Nigel Costolloe owner and president"
These guys are CONSUMMATE PROFESSIONALS and CRAFTSMEN, that's right, CRAFTSMEN; they treat your home in the same fashion a curator treats their artifacts at a museum. Catchlight's work is flawless.
And they were on time, on budget, and immaculate.
"Member, my thanks for your kind and descriptive testimonial. I appreciate that you called out our attention to protection of furnishings and other surfaces. I'm always struck by how often trades leave their client's homes covered in a patina of dust and tracked in dirt. We've been using HEPA-filtered vacuums for over 10 years to deliver spotlessly clean projects and believe that a shoes off/booties on policy goes a long way to showing our customers that we value their homes as highly as we value their business! Cheers, Nigel"
"Member, I appreciated the opportunity to bid on the painting of your home's interior and exterior, and I'm glad to have lost the bid to a respected and professional competitor. I count the company owner John as a friend and role model - you couldn't have chosen better. Best, Nigel"
"Member, it has been and remains a pleasure working with you! Historic properties like yours are especially interesting for our men and women to paint and your attention to detail complements our own. We look forward to our next project together. Best, Nigel"
