VERNE T PORTER JR PLS LAND SURVEYORS-CIVIL ENGINRS

I paid them $500 as a deposit; they've marked the property but haven't done anything else. They said they were doing a plot-plan which we would be billed for, but I haven't gotten anything or heard from them. I called the office & there was no voice-mail; I emailed a couple times as well and have received no response.

We needed a plot plan for a deck variance and contracted with Verne Porter.  We had a firm deadline which I communicated and had repeated phone calls to make the same corrections to the initial plan.  The deadline was missed which meant I was out-of-town when the materials finally were provided to submit the variance.  Voicemails and emails were almost never returned including to show us where the stake lot corners were located.  The materials were all perfectly fine but given the price, probably more than we needed for our simple project.

When I explained my dissatisfaction and that I hired someone else, he refused to credit the $350 I spent for the new surveyor.

I have since talked with other people who have worked with Porter and it appears the consensus is that he does high quality surveys but tends to be late and challenging to work with.  No thanks!

When it took three phone calls over two weeks to get a quote I should have been warned. After the survey, which took two visits, there were weeks of discussions and calls to confirm the dimensions of our project. The whole process took double the scheduled time and nearly double the price.

MR. PORTER WAS RECOMMENDED BY AN ACQUAINTANCE IN THE BUILDING TRADES, SAYING HE WAS BUSY, BUT EXCELLENT AND WELL WORTH THE WAIT. IT TOOK TWO TRIES TO GET THROUGH TO HIM, BUT HE WAS VERY POLITE AND PROFESSIONAL ON THE PHONE AND PROMPT IN SENDING OUT AN ESTIMATE FOR OUR WORK. WE EVENTUALLY CHOSE SOMEONE MORE FAMILIAR WITH OUR TOWN'S REQUIREMENTS. HIS ESTIMATE WAS SQUARELY IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ONES WE GOT IN TERMS OF PRICE AND WAS THE ONLY ONE WHICH GAVE DOLLAR FIGURES FOR ADDITIONAL WORK (IF NECESSARY) AND AN ESTIMATED COMPLETION DATE FROM RECEIPT OF SIGNED PROPOSAL.
