I was referred to the Brass Buff by a close friend. I had several antique brass pieces that needed restoration and others that needed polishing or waxing. This seems to be the "go to" place if you need anything that has to do with brass. The store is loaded with every imaginable brass object, many of which are for sale. I was cordially greeted by Mel (the owner) whose love for his craft was apparent. He was knowledgeable about the objects I had brought, which was very reassuring. I was very pleased with his work and would highly recommend him.

The nice thing about his service is that he bought the item to resell to me but, having done so, he still did not require that I buy it from him - only if I was satisfied that it was the exact match. It was!
Description of Work: The owner looked in his shop to match a Victorian-era brass flush ring pull for cabinet doors in a 2nd floor hallway. While he has a large inventory of brass items, he didn't have an exact match in stock. So he took the dimensions of my example latch and called me a week later, having picked up an matching pull at a place where he shops. Matching the other three pulls allowed me to fit the new fourth one into its cabinet door without any chiseling, and now the linen cabinets all look great!

I was certain that Mel would give my Grandmother's old fireplace set the care befitting of its age. My only other option was the scrap yard. So, I thank you Mel for understanding and loving old things. Your shop is a treasure trove. Together we hope that future generations will appreciate these wonderful things.
Description of Work: After several email exchanges, I gave Mel an old brass fireplace set that needed extensive repairs. In exchange, Mel offered to provide me with polishing services. I took him an old Turkish lantern which he polished up and waxed while I waited. I have a second lantern and would definitely take it to him for polishing.

Response from Brass Buff Antiques
The job was to reattach the spout, remove multiple black spots and polish a teapot that had been left on the stove too long. The price was agreed to before work was done with no problem. She did not like the solder job but there was no complaint about the polishing. A solder bead was built up around the spout so it would not come off if left on the stove too long. Customer complained about the bead. I removed the spout at her request and at no additional charge.

I find Mel to be very pleasant and honest. I trust his judgment, expertise, and knowledge regarding brass and copper. I have been a repeat customer, and will be returning again with some more brass items that need cleaning. His shop is full of {mostly} brass and copper items from all over the world. He takes pleasure in sharing his wares with curious customers. Mel's turn-around is nothing short of amazing! If he says the work will be done is 2 to 3 days, it will be done in 2-3 days. If you need to schedule an appointment, call him, he is very accommodating to your schedule, since his shop does not have 'regular' 9-5 business hours. Call him; you will not regret having him polish your metals. You may even find a special treasure to buy in his floor-to-ceiling filled shop.
Description of Work: I brought several items for cleaning and polishing, including old brass andirons, old brass fireplace tools, a large copper basket/log holder, small brass brackets, a large copper scale purchased in Greece. Mel cleaned all these large and smaller items very well. This was my 3rd or 4th visit to the Brass Buff to have copper and brass items polished and cleaned. I have been a customer for nearly 4 decades!.

Mel polished my pretty brass coffee table with its' intricate bamboo-style legs. Because I had neglected it for too many years the table looked awful when I dropped it off at his shop and brand new when I picked it up three days later. Mel is a good man and his shop is fascinating. I recommend him without reservation

The owner of this establishment is a con artist and a thief ! He claims he polished a piece I gave him to polish, It looked horrible when I went to pick it up, it looked as though no effort was put into the piece at all @ $ 350.00 you would think some effort would of been nice. I didn't want to pay him at all, I was not going to give him $ 350.00 of my hard earned money. He ended calling the local police, I suppose that's what a real reputable business man does when a customer isn't happy...what a joke, The police officer advised me to pay him the $ 350.00 and take the owner to small claims court. Giving him the money bothered me, because it just wasn't right. Giving him my lunch money bothered me, but in return I plan on getting Dinner. I certainly hope the owner of this establishment sleeps well at night knowing he's a thief. I will be contacting Angie's List in regards to this matter, this business should not be in your listings.
Description of Work: The owner of this establishment did nothing. that's the problem.

After a half hour consultation regarding restoration of heavily tarnished, stained Foo Dog, the service was provided and the item was returned on time at agreed upon price with results delivered as described during consultation. Photographs available upon request.

My front door was being repainted and the brass hardware was so old and tarnished I wondered if I shoud get it professionally polished. I found this place and was thrilled with the resuts. Fast - easy - not too expensive - and the door looks great now. The painter removed the hardware and I made an appointment with the Brass Buff and he did it it one day.
Description of Work: brass polished for front door hardware - knocker, door handle, letter slot. So happy I brought brass candlesticks the next day to be buffed - gorgeous!

Mr. Rosenburg works by appointment, and was very responsive to my request to meet asap. Because the hardware was from my front door, I was anxious to have the parts polished and replaced quickly in order that I might be able to lock it overnight. Mr. Rosenburg polished a couple of the pieces while I waited so that I might achieve this. He turned around the rest of the parts promptly and I was able to pick them up within a few days. I would highly recommend Brass Buff Antiques for brass or copper polishing.

I called Brass Buff at 617 964 9388 and left my number for a return call back. it is necessary to do this. Mr. Rosenburg, the very knowledgable and experienced owner of the business, called me within a few hours and we agreed on a mutually acceptable time for me to come in. He viewed the items and gave me a reasonable price for cleaning and polishing. He added that if I was not satisfied for any reason, he would adjust the price. He performed the work as described with a very fast turnaround. After I reinstalled them on the door, my wife and I were delighted with the results. He does not recommend lacquering your brass.
Description of Work: The front door to my house looked great after it had just been painted. However, the heavy duty brass knocker and mail slot hardware on both sides of the door hadn't been cleaned in years and it looked terrible. Mr Rosenburg cleaned and polished all the pieces including the screws bringing them to almost new appearance.
