Alan gave us a price of $5,000 to make the drawings. We provided Alan with the dimensions and pictures and tentative design plans. He doubled the price to $10,000 after we paid him the initial fee of $850 to visit the site. even though there were no changes in the plan

Alan quoted us "around $5,000 to draw the plans for converting an attic space into a living space. We provided Alan with the exact dimensions and a picture of the space.
Alan requested a payment of $850 to visit the location. We assumed that that amount is applied towards the total cost of $5,000. It was not and the initial cost of $5,000 doubled to $10,000 after visiting the site even though there were no change of the dimensions or the scope of work.

Alan Taylor, architect, arrived promptly at my home for the scheduled appointment. He listened carefully to our concerns, walked throughout the house, carefully examining the issues we were concerned about. He discussed with us the feasibility of each modification or change we were considering. He reviewed our certified Plot Plan to determine what could be done, given our lot size and location. He gave estimated costs of the projects we were considering. He made thoughtful suggestions regarding reasonable alternatives to major undertakings. He was friendly, intelligent, experienced, listened well and provided us with a much better understanding what we might accomplish regarding home improvements.

I hired Alan to design a 3rd bedroom addition (first floor, expanded footprint) for my home in Dedham. This was a challenging project in that I was attempting to build close to my neighbors property line. Alan investigated further with the town and learned which specific building materials would be required given my situation. He also gave additional guidance in working with my town along the way. Alan is a good communicator and had great recommendations for my project. He was also easy to work with when there were tweaks or changes requested on my end. Alan was also willing to consult directly with the contractor that I eventually hired for the job to ensure nothing was lost in translation. Even the contractor mentioned a few times that Alan had done a great job with his plans and additional ideas. The room is now complete and is even better that I imagined it would be. I would enthusiastically recommend Alan to anyone in need of an architect.

Alan Taylor was a good choice for my project. My needs required someone who was sympathetic and experienced with home modifications for the elderly. Alan added tremendous value in this area and kept within my economic limits and scale. He also went the extra mile with regard to zoning restrictions which helped expedite building permit approval.
