A friend gave me the name of Dry Air Systems, and specifically recommended that I speak with Richard Wilson--one of the company's experts and chief estimators. I contacted Richard and over a period of about 6 months we noodled around with what would be the best, most cost effective solution for our situation. Richard could not have been more patient. No matter how many times we called him with a new idea, he was always willing to explore the option.
Since cost was a consideration, and we wanted to save as much as we could using what we had, Richard evaluated our existing set-up first. Because the original ducting was so bad, we could not use it. It simply didn't make sense to add a new furnace with an air conditioning component to a convoluted patchwork of ducts. Plus, we didn't really want to stick with oil. It's an obsolete alternative with very low efficiency. Propane was a much more efficient option, but we would have had to replace the deducting and add a larger propane tank to make a gas system viable. UGH!
Then Richard suggested a ductless system with a heat pump. He gave us two options--Lennox that offered 100% interest free financing or Mitsubishi which had no financing but a rebate and better motor and warranty. We went with the Mitsubishi and could not be happier. Everything was just as Richard had predicted.
The crew of four from Dry Systems was one of the most professional I have ever had in my home. Led by Jamie Caldwell, they were careful, immaculate, knowledgeable, and extremely thoughtful about selecting locations and best options for wiring, ducting, vents and the compressor itself. Overall an outstanding experience. BTW, we had 2 other bids, and Dry Systems was about 20% less than their nearest competitor. A win win for us!
Update 12/29/2012:
My brothers and I inspected the roof and found the insulation wrap around the ducts was carelessly done and was peeling off. The most disturbing thing is that the workmen left behind dozens of screws and many shards of sheet metal on the building's membrane roof. This could easily result in a screw or shard puncturing the roof if someone stepped on one of those screws/shards.
He let us know what was going on every step of the way.
