Galway Masonry is an exceptional team - very respectful, communicative and masters at their craft. They transformed my backyard into a showpiece and corrected a drainage issue that had plagued and damaged a concrete pad. Their recommendations on layout, drainage, pavers were done collaboratively - the results far exceeded my expectations. I would highly recommend the Galway team for anyone's future projects.

Excellent response after calling for estimate, and quick turnaround after sending signed proposal back. Job was done professionally and the result looked like new. Did not look like a patch job at all. Cleaned up perfectly. Except for the caution tape, you'd never know they were there! They returned 2 days after to wash any cement residue. Would definitely recommend them.

Galway came as promised to do the job and did so beautifully. Their process is informal: you call, they call you back, they spec the job and give a receipt at the end -- not a lot of formal paperwork involved, but all goes according to plan and the work was top notch. This particular job was quite small - just $300.
Description of Work: Galway filled in a landing at the top of my outside stairs with pavers, when another contractor vanished without finishing the job.

Following the completion of exterior work (painting, cedar shingles, etc.), we noticed an open crack in our field-stone foundation. Because it was late in the year (December 2010), Galway came and forced mortar into the crack as an interim repair and suggest that we do permanent repairs on that and other areas. (We were well aware of the foundation masonry issues and had been putting off repairs, so this was not an attempt to sell us on anything we didn't need.) Over the course of the following summer, other cracks opened and we began to have water problems during periods of heavy rains. Knowing we needed to get this taken care of, we called Galway in late August to decide on a course of action and to obtain a cost estimate. We accepted Galway's proposal and were able to schedule the work for sometime in late October. Unfortunately, due to weather and delays on other jobs, Galway was unable to commence work until mid-November but did show up as promised once a firm date had been agreed. Given how efficiently Galway's crew worked, the job was completed surprisingly rapidly. Possibly a time-and-materials arrangement would have been more economical, but our fixed-price agreement meant that Galway assumed the risk of any "surprises" once they'd excavated the worst areas of the foundation wall. (The fixed-price agreement also meant that their incentive was to finish the job as quickly as possible. Even so, I believe they did everything carefully and even took care of some minor items not anticipated in the agreement.) We are very pleased with the quality of the work and Galway's no-nonsense approach to masonry as a traditional craft and trade. We really appreciated that they carefully removed the bark mulch before excavating and replaced it after back-filling the dirt. They also carefully removed and replaced foundation plantings (hosta, hydrangea) and these plants re-established themselves in the spring.
Description of Work: The rough field stone foundation of our 1890-vintage house had developed cracking and had moved out-of-plumb. Galway excavated and removed, cleaned and reset a portion of the foundation wall and also removed mortar and smaller stones and re-pointed other areas.

It went very well. Gerry and crew were a pleasure to deal with. I haven't had masonry work done before so I don't know if the price was fair. Only downside is the cement in the new panel seems to be a different type than in the old panel next to it - I worry they will never match.

I felt that the job was done well. The interaction with all parties was good and the job was begun and finished in a day and a half beginning to end. I only wish that the bricks were laid tighter. The walkway still looks really good but if I would have been onsite I know that they would have laid it tighter.

Gerry should up to the do the estimate the day after we called to schedule the work. While looking at the wall Gerry noticed the foundation in one spot needed to be touched up so Gerry stated that he would take care of that. On the 6th of June Gerry showed up and had the wall and foundation done in no time. With the coming rain Gerry made sure he covered his work to protect it from the rain. The following day Gerry returned to inspect his work to insure it was to his satisfaction as well as ours.
Description of Work: Gerry fixed a old stone wall that was struck by a car. The wall looks great and stronger than the day it was built. Gerry also pointed foundation of my house where I removed a small porch. You would never know any work was done blended perfectly. I would without a doubt use Gerry again and highly recommend him.

Initially was slow to respond to my call. Others in the neighborhood had used Galway and were pleased with the work. When I finally connected, they came out promptly and gave an acceptable estimate for the work to be done. The quality of the work was excellent. It took 2 days. They showed up promptly at the time and date we agreed on. No add on charges, no unpleasant suprises. The cleaned up after their work. Very professional. Would definitely use them again

Very well--would hire for another job.
Description of Work: I hired them to repoint the brick stairs at my parents' house. They provided a written estimate that was in the middle of the quotes we received. They were very clear about the fact that this was a small job that they intended to fit in between other jobs and that they were currently booked out 2 mos in advance. They were professional and kind to my elderly parents. They explained that rock salt does a number on brick mortar and advised us to try to use sand in the winter. I was pleased with the work and am hoping it holds up--will check back after winter.

Several calls back and forth resulted in Jerry understanding what I was requesting, and a promise to stop by my property and send me an estimate. Two weeks later, I hadn't heard anything and called again. The woman who responded didn't remember my first calls, and promised to relay the message. Two weeks went by again, and no call or estimate.

This work took place in several installments over a period of months. We presented Gerry with our problems and asked his advice in solving them. I think the solutions he came up with were just right for us--no sloppy shortcuts (proposed by two other companies) and also nothing overly elaborate (another contractor came in with vague plans and a much more expensive bid). In short, I came away thinking of Gerry as a straight-shooter who shows up when he says he will, explains himself well, does a good quality job at a fair price, and cleans up the site at the end of the day. He was consistently a pleasure to deal with, and so was his crew.
Description of Work: In our 100-year-old triple decker, built on a hill, the ground level had crept up over basement window sills and even house clapboards on one side of the building. Compounding the problem, it had been in this state, unattended, for a number of years, and we had water damage on the inside wood panels of our sub-basement, including one crucial support beam. Galway replaced damaged wood in the sub-basement with a concrete block wall. On the exterior side, Galway raised the junction between clapboards and foundation a few inches and created a drainage channel, covered with gravel, adjacent to the wall. They also repointed our foundation and installed several window wells.
