Things began great. Pam had lots of ideas and a good design sense. She identified vendors for us, helped us narrow down choices, and made good design decisions. As time went on, however, the job went downhill. Pam is a good designer but a lousy business person: - She wouldn't answer our emails for days - She kept revisiting decisions that we'd already finalized: "But wait -- here are more options." This was exhausting. - Some of the tiles she chose didn't match in color. (We hired her to avoid these kinds of last-minute surprises.) - The custom-built bathroom vanity was ordered in the wrong color and did not match the room. (But too late, it's a custom $2500 item, no returns.) - She assured us that a marble-top vanity was a wise decision, but we later found in Consumer Reports that marble is the lowest-ranked choice by consumers because of chipping. (And yes, ours is already chipping and scratching a mere 6 months later.) - She kept making basic math mistakes. - The documents she gave us were unclear. She could not summarize and present clear information to us about the many bathroom options. She'd just hand us a sheet with a hundred little details on it. - Her invoices don't have her address on them. I had to keep asking her where to send the check. I realize this is small, but it demonstrates a lack of awareness of her customers. On the good side, Pam's lighting design was OUTSTANDING. I've tried choosing lights for rooms myself, and it's much more difficult than I'd thought. These bathrooms look great throughout the day and night thanks to the lighting. Her talks with the electrician were filled with impressive detail -- she really knows her lighting.
