Thompson Overhead Doors has been a family owned and operated business since 1957. We specialize in what we know best, the sales, service and installation of garage doors and garage door openers. We have a fully staffed office during office hours and an answering service after hours to serve you. We have3-4 trucks on the road every day to take care of all your garage door needs. We do not use sub contractors and pay our employees by the hour, not the job. Quality is more important than quantity. Having been in the trades business since 1957, we can recommend another company to you if you're in need of a carpenter, roofer or siding company.

"We truly are very sorry you were unhappy with the design of the garage door panels. It's true we do not carry or offer the model doors you bought. We don't offer them because we have been told over the years that consumers have been displeased with vinyl doors. Based on your request for durable doors, we made our recommendations and provided you with 4 quotes for various other doors which you decided against. Upon your request for the vinyl doors, we obtained a quote from the manufacturer, quoted, ordered and installed them for you. These were the doors you decided were your best option so that your children could hit balls and pucks against the doors. After you alerted us to the configuration of the panels, we contacted the factory and explained that your were very unhappy. If there was an error we were prepared to make the correction at our expense. However, the factory maintains that the panels you have are the proper panels and are not mismatched. This the way the door is manufactured and offered to the consumer. There is no "correction" available because the door is as intended. That is the design. Since we've never sold the product before and have no experience with it, we had no way offering you any insight or information beyond the factory brochure. We only had the same information that you had. So we understand and am sorry you don't care for the panel design of your doors but we are installers and have no way to change the design of the door."

"It is true we had a tragic day on October 12th with a devastating accident en route to the **** residence. We lost our truck and our employee. We called and told the customer about it and apologized for the delay and promised to send a replacement technician as soon as possible. Our replacement technician with over 30 years experience was instructed by the homeowner which of the 2 garage door openers needed replacement so he could install the new one. It was installed that morning and demonstrated to her. Later that day, She called saying it was the wrong door and to please come back and move the new operator to the other door. We went back after hours that evening and uninstalled from 1 location and reinstalled in the other location at no charge. The customer was not truthful with her husband that she instructed us incorrectly. Mr. **** called the office. We explained the circumstances and waived the labor charges. This dispute should be a family one, not a public one with our company."

Earlier last year I called them to replace a frayed cable and a safety sensor. The initial experience was great, just consistent with many of other positive reviews. The lady over the phone was courteous and provided me a date for the service. On the day of the service, the guy came over, performed the tasks with professionalism. I was pleased.
But in less than 4 month, the cable he replaced was frayed again, showing signs of wear and tear. I called them, asking them if this is normal. The owner stated that all the cables the provided has been processed to make it stronger..etc., and adding that "if there is a problem, you call us again" (and pay us again) and "that's the way to go". He also stated that their service is warranted for 30 days and refused any discount for any service his guy could not appropriately address.
I didn't like his explanation but decided to given them another chance because the guy seemed to be pretty good at fixing garage door. So I called them and set up another day. The guy came over and looked at the cable. He felt that it was due to the drums so he replaced them, saying that should take of it.
But in 3 months, the same cable problem occurred...sigh...it was just replaced by the guy....I figure that if I call them again the owner will give the same response "if there is a problem, call us (and hence pay us) again". Why would I pay you for NOT solving a problem but costing me extra $150?
"As the owner, I don't recall having this conversation. I do have the service records though. In early April of 2014, we repaired a garage door opener problem on the right door and a freyed cable on the left door. We also oiled and adjusted both doors at that time. We didn't hear from the customer until late November of 2014. At that time we went back and replaced a cable on the right door. Not the same door or the same cable. We did not replace the drums, but did recommend replacing the sheaves that the cables go on to help prevent this from happening in the future. She had us replace them at that time. Or is very common for moving parts to wear out on older garage doors. We have not heard from her since that service call almost a year and a half ago. I feel this review is not accurate at all and find it odd that she is placing it over 2 years after our first visit."

The company was very easy to deal with and the turn around time (sending in deposit/signed contract to the installation of the doors) was quicker than I thought. The job took less than a full day to remove the old wooden garage doors/tracks and to reinstall new doors/tracks. Everything was hauled away and there was no mess at all.
The installer was friendly and even installed some much larger bolts (I had used screws) to firmly secure some wood planks that ran across the ceiling that the garage door tracks had to be attached to. They had become unattached and I tried to reattach them but they were still a bit loose. He did a much better job than I did and at no extra cost. He also had no idea until he showed up.
Overall, a positive experience!

We had preventive maintenance performed on our single garage door using an Angie's List deal. The offer included roller replacement and labor. The crew inspected and also replaced the springs, a pulley and safety cable. The price was a little higher than I expected for the parts but they worked quickly and efficiently. They arrived early for the appointment which was appreciated. The only disappointment was they do not service Genie openers (they service and install LiftMaster openers) and were unable to replace a burnt relay for the opener light. Therefore another service provider would be needed for that repair. Overall a smooth experience and we would definitely recommend and use them again.
