I called Lon for an estimate, and he called me right back, and came out the next day. He spent a lot of time with me looking over the samples and asking me specifics about my likes and dislikes. He brought his level with him, and discovered that the walls needed a bit of prep work as there was a slight bow that would have adversely affected the installation. He was straightforward enough to mark exactly where on the wall it was so I would know just in case I decided to go with someone else. I was amazed. He also pointed out that the edges of the tiles could be bull-nosed since I am not a fan of the framed in look. ( See pictures ) I was really pleased right away, but did the usual thing and interviewed other guys, just to be sure. Not only did they not notice the bow in the wall, one guy told me the bull-nosed edging 'would not be possible - too costly'! Needless to say, I went with Lon. He ordered the tiles for us, which was a great relief to me, picked them up, and a week later, got to work. He did a terrific job! The mosaic feature came out perfectly, and the bull-nosed edges on tile tile were perfect, and he reinstalled the steel shelving I had up. I just could not have asked for a better job, it was that good. If I have any more tile work that needs to be done I would call him in a heartbeat.

Lon is a wonderful person. The best contractor I have ever had. He did some jobs free of cost and finished Tile work with very competitive budget than some other contractors I talked to. I wish I could find similar contractor for other projects. He knows tiles, walls and floor and saved us a lot of $$$.

Lon is very knowledgable and helpful. what I really appreciated about Lon was that he did his own work. He works alone so you know that you are going to get great quality work always. He works long hours and doesn't move on to the next job until yours is completed. He also did some trim work and installed a vanity, which he doesn't usually do, so that we could get the job done in a reasonable amount of time. He did a beautiful job and I would most certainly recommend him.

Lon is an honest man. He was about to finish his work for us when, by accident, he broke the glass of a double-pane glass door in the area he was working on. We got an estimate for replacing the glass and it ended up being very close to what he was about to charge us for his job. He immediately told us "we'll call it even," accepting his responsibility and consequence for the unfortunate accident (he said it had never happened to him before). I appreciated his honesty. At the end, I did not want him to go empty handed after almost 2 days of heavy work, so I still gave him a partial payment for the job.
He only took tiles out for us, so I won't comment on quality of tile installation. On price, he prefers to charge a fee per hour instead of giving a fixed-price estimate. We don't like that method but agreed to do it because we wanted to install the hard wood floor asap. I would prefer a fixed-price estimate for these kinds of jobs.

Lon is a great tile professional.  He has worked on 3 or 4 homes for me over the past 15 years.  He always provides great advice and design guidance as in evidenced by the work done in my latest home.

He carefully removed two broken tiles on our bathroom wall and then installed replacement tiles.   He was a very neat worker and removed all debris.  We would certainly use him again.

When our master shower was built four years ago, the original tile contractor (not the one I'm reviewing) made a mistake: the entire edge (between floor and walls) was weak and the grout crumbled away, leaving a gap. Water got in, bringing water-loving bugs and other problems. On a recommendation, I called Lon Griffin to see if he could repair the grout.
Lon arrived on time for the estimate and said simply re-grouting the edge would not solve the problem - it would just corrode again over time. The original contractor, it seems, didn't extend the floor tile far enough under the wall tile. Lon recommended adding new pieces of tile to cover the edge. He brought along a sample and it matched the existing tile, so I told him to go ahead. We scheduled the work for two weeks in the future. (In the meantime I caulked the gap.)
On the day of the job, Lon arrived on time. He worked for about five hours, cleaned up, and told me not to run any water for 72 hours. Everything dried as expected and the job looks solid and attractive -- exactly as he had described it.  It's now been a month, and there are no more leaks. I am very happy with Lon's responsiveness and quality of work. He is a rare breed who accepts small jobs (many tile contractors don't) and even discussed a little Hegel (philosophy) with me.

All the the jobs that he has undertaken for me began on the date we agreed upon. He completed the work promptly, but carefully, within the predicted time frame. When he left for the day he always was sure that all of his tools were put away and he was careful to maintain an orderly work environment.  He did not go over his estimate and produced in every instance a result with which I was pleased.
