It pains me to have to leave a poor review for any small business but I have been left with no other choice. I hired Ken to replace an old oil fueled heating system this past fall. Originally, he quoted me to replace the oil system with another oil system. After working with Mass Save, I was encouraged to consider a heat pump system. As a result, I asked Ken if he worked with Mass Save and asked him to explain heat pump systems as I had no prior experience with them. He proceeded to explain that heat pump systems do not work well in Massachusetts on their own given the extreme cold weather and that having an alternate fuel source is essential. Given what we assumed was his expertise and knowledge of the Mass Save requirements, we proceeded with a heat pump and propane heating system at twice the cost of the original oil system we were quoted. We were ok with this, after all, we would be eligible for a Mass Save rebate and even some tax credit incentives. Fast forward 8 excruciatingly long months later of spending countless hours and frustrations dealing with Mass Save, I have been told we do not qualify for any rebate due to the fact that Ken installed 1. the wrong model of heat pump to begin with which doesn't qualify as it was not on their approved product list and 2. as the fact that you can not have any other source of fossil fuel in order to qualify. In other words, the heat pump has to be the sole source of heat. For months I kept getting messages that Mass save needed the right model numbers for the heat pump, for months I spoke to supervisors, managers and finally even someone at National Grid always insisting that I had provided the right numbers as Ken refused to admit he had installed the wrong model. As such, I went to battle with Mass Save assuming they were wrong, after all he supposedly was speaking to other experts who taught him about Mass Save requirements and who according to him confirmed he was right. When asked to provide anything in writing from these â  expertsâ  as you might have guessed, nothing transpired. Even after receiving the explanation for why we were declined in writing from Mass Save/National Grid, Ken refuses to take accountability for his error. I am out thousands of dollars, wasted hours of my life. Since Ken has refused to admit to his error, he has done nothing to try to make things right, not even apology. As I told Ken, everyone makes mistakes, itâ  s how you handle the mistakes that matters. The way he has handled this issue is so unprofessional and should make anyone think twice before working with him moving forward. When you are dealing with something as serious and heating and cooling, you want someone who stands by their work. Ken is not that person. I donâ  t know what is more frustrating, being out thousand of dollars or having wasted probably 20+ hours of my life on this. Either way, I will never work with Ken and clearly will never recommend him moving forward. In the end, he has lost a lot of work as a result of not acting like a grown up and an professional and not taking accountability for his mistake.
