I used him from July to November 2009 for remodeling. He created three rooms out of an attic. He built a stairway access from the 2nd to the 3rd floor. He put up dormers and built a bathroom. He did the air conditioning and heat system and a solar water heating system He did a great job. His price was not the lowest.
Description of Work: I used Allen Construction to fix some trim and fix a door. He also gave me a quote to put i a closet. He has done a lot of work for me in the past.

We conducted a fairly structured RFP process to select a contractor. We included five contractors, including Chris Allen. Chris had worked extensively with our architect, Shelly Zeigleman (now living in Paris, France but previously of Winchester, Ma), and she had recommended him highly. Chris's bid was in the middle, however, he distinguished himself in several ways. First, his proposal included great detail on how he intended to perform the job. Second, it was clear that he would be very hands on and present during the entire project (after all, he's an excellent carpenter). Third, it was clear that he cared as much about the quality of the job as I did. This last point manifest itself through the duration of the job. Chris stressed over the quality and detail at least as much as I did and really cared about the finished product. Chris and I were in touch on a daily basis, often through text messaging. I cannot recall him taking more than 12 hours to respond to a request or a question, and in general, he responded in less than 5 minutes through SMS or by phone. He was always extremely sensitive to the needs of my family, including my young kids, and they really grew to like him and his team a lot. Chris's subs are excellent - they all demonstrated the same work ethic and quality. Chris does not advertising - but he doesn't need to because the quality of his work sells his product.
Description of Work: We renovated a totally unfinished attic in center entrance colonial built in 1920. To expand the livable space, two shed dormers were created on the east side of the home and a fairly large gable dormer was added to the west to accommodate a new stairway. Since no stairway existed to the attic, an old "second" stairway was eliminated and new stairway was created. A bedroom, bathroom and playroom were build in the space as well as a small office space just off the stairway. A heating and air conditioning system were installed. Three sky lights were installed to add light and a skylight was used to comply with egress code.
