The only reason I joined Angie's List is to hopefully save someone from hiring this totally incompetant guy!!
It was one of the more disasterous projects I have ever hired someone for. The owner, Chris, gave me a quote for $6000. I thought it was a bit on the high side, but I signed the contract. Prior to signing the contract I told him that I did not want him starting the job, and then telling me it was A) going to take longer and B) going to cost more. Well, sure enough, after finishing only 2 1/2 windows he told me he made a mistake in the estimate(!) and he had not taken a good look at the windows he was going to repair, because he had not seen certain things during his estimate job. This is all on top of him arriving late, leaving without notifying me. I was so upset about the news of his wrong estimate. He was complaining non-stop about how much money he was losing. RIDICULUS, he had only done 2 1/2 small windows on the ground floor - not the windows that are 8 feet tall on the main floor. Anyway, he QUIT!
He charged me $1700 for the worst job imaginable. I've decided to replace the windows he
told me he restored. They looked like h***!!
Always ask for references! I will never make a mistake like this one again!

They're wonderful. Chris kind of has an engineer type of approach to things. He's very meticulous and did very clear planning. It came out as well as he said it would and exact. He found some additional rot and things under some of the siding we had at the windows that got the most weathered. It was unexpected and an extra charge, but he was very reasonable in how much he charged to get all of the wood rot out and repair it correctly. Their clean up was excellent and we went through the winter with the temporary glass in and it was fine and a little better than the old windows because they were leaking due to the deterioration in the wood. It was just as good as having windows in over the winter and since we've gotten them replaced it's even better. We love it. It was about $1,000 per window to do it, but it was a huge amount of work because of all the panes involved. He needed to fit another job in, so it was quite a while before the windows got completed and then reinstalled but it wasn't a big deal. It was a surprising amount of time, but it still wasn't bad.

This was an excellent experience.

Windows were carefully removed 12/15/2010, as of 2/8/2011 I am awaiting re-installation. Delays have been mostly weather-related and I don't have any particular time frame. He has always shown up as promised. In this instance I am concerned about the work quality and not the timing. I am very pleased with his professionalism and timely updates. Will see the finished product soon.

Our house is about 90 years old and the windows are very drafty. In each window where we had Bi-glass windows installed there was an immediate improvement in terms of the rooms feeling much warmer in the winter, as cold air stayed out and warm air stayed in.

David was great to work with -- responded quickly to my inquiry about the project, was very clear about what the job would entail, how much it would cost and when he would best be able to fit me into his schedule. I dropped the door off at a nearby site where they were doing another job and his crew turned it around in a day. All went well & as planned/promised.

We evaluated 3 options for improving the functionality and efficiency of our windows--full replacement, weatherstripping and new storms and the Bi-Glass system. The Bi Glass system was the best of both worlds. We retained the original old-growth wood of our windows, but they now function and have the energy efficiency of replacement windows. And will likely last for another 100 years unlike the new wood in replacements. In addition, it was equivalent to replacement and 30% less expensive than the full restoration + new storm windows option. We were a bit nervous about the invasiveness of the work and hidden costs cropping up etc so only contracted to do about 1/2 the project to start. It went so well in terms of no hidden costs, quick work, good communication, and minimally intrusive--and the efficiency benefits were so clear--that we extended the project to finish nearly all the windows that needed work. David is a good communicator, prices the work very fairly, and doesn't bother with high pressure sales tactics or pitches. He understands what makes his approach so effective for older homes, but respects your opinion and questions. The team that did the install was prompt and very sensitive to dust and noise (small child was in the house with bad dust allergies). They started on time, ended on time, and only had a minor glitch that they recovered from very effectively.

David is a gem-- he's conscientious and has high standards for his work and is very good at keeping the customer updated. I had some special instructions regarding some of the first-floor windows that I asked him for once and then I had a busy week or two and forgot to follow up on it. On our final walk-through I was very pleasantly surprised that although I'd only mentioned it once, David had taken care of it. Unfortunately, due to a personnel issue and the windows being in worse shape than he'd originally thought, the original two-week estimate ended up being five weeks start to finish. Still, we're really pleased with the quality. All of the windows work again and the double-paned glass is so much quieter than the original. Keep in mind that you'll have a trailer out in front of your house for the duration of the project. Also, repainting of the sashes isn't included; you'll have to do it yourself or get a painter. David was clear about these points up front.
