It could have been better. The water heaters are leaking because there is supposed to be a pump on them which he never installed. When I called him back, he wouldn't answer.
The costs were relatively similar but one involved drilling through a stone wall twice or more, whereas the other involved cutting through the floor. Also, the ducted seemed more aesthetically pleasing with floor vents instead of ductless heads on the wall. Floor seemed easier right? Unfortunately that wasn't really the case with many issues with joists changing directions and finding areas to cut the ducts in the floor. It was really a tough time with the plaster and lathe ceiling and the cluttered basement.
Ed's guys worked their butts off. The job took considerably longer than expected but Ed held true to his price and they completed the job and cleaned up excellently after they left.
This is the 3rd time I've used this company and they have been excellent each time. I'm not sure they'll want to work in our building again after this job though given how challenging it was but I would definitely hire again.
Looking forward to selling my window units!
Marco and the other worker worked diligently for many hours in the basement to get it done and worked well with the start up guy when he arrived to fire the burner. It was a difficult install to retrofit this new burner on the boiler but they did a great job.
Certainly will use them again.
"We were hired to install a Weil McLain 91% efficient cast iron boiler and 45 gallon Superstor. The best part of the Weil McLain GV series boilers is that they require no maintenance. Therefore there are no yearly service contracts required. If a boiler breaks we fix it! We believe we are doing people a favor by not getting them involved in costly service contracts. We hired an electrician and a disposal company to take out the old boiler and oil tank. These were the only subs, quite typical for such and installation. Also we installed this boiler in November. We set the new boiler up next to the old boiler to run the gas lines and vents so the customer could use all of her oil and we could do a same day changeover. We did have to move the boiler over a foot when we took the oil one out. In our defense, all the oil was burned and the customer never spent a night without heat. We installed the condensate drain in the sump pump, which is allowed in the plumbing code. Usually it drains into the ground, but the sump pump bucket was clogged and the pump was broken. We moved it to the laundry drain. It would be easy for us to go in pull out the old boiler, have the customer lose heat for 1-2 days and then finish. We respect the fact that no one should go through a night without heat, so we take the harder route and install new systems while the old system still runs. This adds a day to the installation, but nobody has ever spent the night without heat or hot water."
I wasn't told at the time of scheduling the appointment that there is a 2 hour minimum charge and I made the mistake to assume I would be charged for actual work performed. The plumber doing the work spent most of the time out in the truck or in my front yard on his phone so I started to worry about subsequent charges. He also couldn't give me a quote when I asked. I called management a couple days later about the service and invoice only to hear about the minimum charge without any further reduction to compromise.
Lack of transparency around charges and desire to improve customer satisfaction is my reason for posting. Maybe the job was too small to bother.
"We were called to fix a problem with the customer's kitchen sink. We should up on time and fixed the problem. It required parts we did not have and we had to make a trip to the supply house. With the trip the call was over 1 hour. Therefore it was a 2 hour charge."
Ed said the job would take about 3-4 days. And on day 4 they were done.Excellent service. I would use them again.
