I go there for routine maintenance on my vehicle. We had a rodent problem in the garage that had gotten into my car. They went all over my car to make sure everything was gone.

 They are very good there. He changed the filters and got everything all cleaned up. He said to come back in couple of weeks to make sure it was still good.

We've been bringing our Honda CRV to LBJ for nearly three years now, and have never been as happy with a garage. Happy for the same reasons as other reviewers, but especially impressed with their restraint: LBJ will diagnose problems, price out a fix, and then give (what I accept as) their candid take on whether you need it now, later, or never. Surprisingly often, the answer is later or never. That earns a lot of trust. So if it's a sales technique, it's working.

We just moved to Melrose last year, and I'm glad that I found LBJ.
I first used their services for an oil change back in January. They have a deal where you can reduce the cost of an oil change by buying either five or ten oil changes at a time. At the first oil change they also looked into a knocking sound that our car was making. They determined it was the front right tie-rod, but said that I could safely wait a while to get it fixed. They actually recommended waiting to fix it until Spring when all the potholes had been filled in.
Their and quot;waiting roomand quot; is just a couple of office chairs in their garage, so don't expect glamorous digs while you're waiting for service.
I think it's important to have a trustworthy mechanic with whom you can bring a car over years, so I am certainly happy to have found LBJ.

We just moved to Melrose and wanted to establish a new mechanic. We only needed an oil change and to have a knocking sound checked out. They are upfront that their oil change is more expensive than a JiffyLube, but they offer a repeat customer discount--$121 for 5 oil changes. Also, they diagnosed the noise for free(a loosening tie-rod), but actually recommend that we hold off on doing anything about it until it really needs to be fixed. | |Also, I got caught on the T coming to pick up the car after work, and they willing waited around until after closing for me.

This last repair job was the third one that LBJ has performed for me over the last few months. I have saved approximately $2000 having them do the work instead of the dealership. In addition to the axle shaft job, I have had a catalytic converter and clutch replaced. The dealership where the car has been serviced does very good work, and they provided estimates for this work to be done. After the first repair I was sold on the quality and professionalism of Rick and his team as well as the money I had saved. They were very responsive each of the times I have had work done. They not only follow-up expediently regarding what they have found in doing the repair but take time to explain what was done including what the old part(s) looked like when it is time to pick up the vehicle. I live in Attleboro and have now traveled three times to Melrose to have a repair done. Dealing with Boston traffic is not on my short list of life experiences; however, the quality of the work performed and the money saved made this annoyance worthwhile. I would not hesitate to recommend LBJ to a friend.

I dropped my car off at 8:10 AM and they called back at 11:20AM to tell me I could p ck it up anytime.
When I paid for the service, Rick went over the bill with me.
He explained what was done and told me everything looked fine.
I have had my Honda's serviced at LBJ's for at about 20 years.
I have always found them to reputable, knowledgeable and friendly.
When I find out a person a Honda, I always mention how pleased I've been with them and suggest taking their car there for service.

They did sa good job in good order. I would use them more often but they are a little far from my house. When they started business in the 80's Hondas were a "foreign" car, but now there are so many most mechanics around here are familiar with Hondas...

I used LBJ for 6 years, right up to 2005 when I sold my '91 Accord. They consistently did excellent work, including exhaust A-pipe and B-pipe, timing belt, half-axles, brake job, brake and clutch master cylinders, radiator (yes, I guess I had quite a bit of work done over the years). They are *not* the least expensive shop, but I believe their prices are fair knowing that they do consistently high quality work, which they stand behind, and do work correctly. Once I trust a shop to not get creative with selling me extra work, and also to work on brakes carefully (something I'm particularly careful about), I am happy to pay a reasonable bill. Because I am a cynic, the initial work I had them do involved the exhaust system. I knew the down-pipe (A-pipe) had rusted through. They called saying that the B-pipe also needed replacement. This added a significant amount to the bill, but they were clear that it was needed, so I authorized it. When I picked the car up, I asked to see the old parts. Indeed, the B-pipe had rusted all along the weld seam, but which I hadn't noticed from under the car since the seam ran along the top of the pipe when installed on the car. One other story is when they did the front brake mechanics...rotors and pads. They did not just replace the parts, but also did the other items that are supposed to be done when doing a brake job; lubricated slide pins, replaced a dust boot, removed rust/scale from all moving parts, and replaced missing bleeder caps. The result is brakes that stop smoothly with no chatter. Excellent shop overall. Very approachable staff.

They explained to me that Honda mufflers have a lifetime warranty, which shows me they are honest. It is hard for me to say someone is perfect, but they are good. They are cheaper than the dealership. I would highly recommend them.
