"This client was very happy with my work until I chose to stop working with her, at which time she threatened to "post a scathing review to Angie's List" if I left. There are many inaccuracies in this review. I hope potential clients will take it with a grain of salt."
She's honest and conscientous to a fault, and charged a very reasonable rate.
I've backslid some, and I need to do some more work again, but my life is otherwise rather busy. I'll call her without hesitation when I can do so.
She is great to work with. She does the
standard stuff of helping me go through papers and files and either discarding
or recycling or putting certain records in less accessible storage areas to
reserve prime space for the things I need frequent access to, but the most
impressive thing is that she is very creative about how to use existing
storage, how to organize pieces of furniture for the least clutter and
confusion. While she charges more than some other organizers, this creative
intelligence makes her well worth the cost. I accomplish more working with Jen
for two hours than I have working with other organizers for much longer. We had
worked for some years with another organizer who charged half as much, and
while things would look a little better for a couple of days, there was no
overall improvement. Working with Jennifer has brought significant improvement
to our home; people who visit who haven't been here for a while often express
pleased surprise at how good things look. Jennifer sells "packages"
in which you get 12 hours for the cost of 10 by paying in advance; I think we
are now on our third package, and I am never sorry that we have spent the money
or the time to work with her. I am self-employed with a home office, and
working with Jen has made our home a pleasanter place and has allowed me to
become more productive in my work.
I would definitely use Jen again!
Initially I spent a lot of time alongside Jen to be sure that the filing system worked well and made sense to me. She put anything she was going to toss or shred in a separate pile for me to review. I gave her feedback as she went and very quickly she figured out what I wanted to save and what I wanted to toss. At this point I now turn everything over to her unsorted and trust that she will know what to do with it. She files, tosses, shreds, and leaves me small to-do piles and sometimes a small pile she has questions about. On the rare occasion that cant find something she has filed, I have texted her and she usually responds immediately. She has an uncanny memory and can usually tell me exactly what it has been filed under. My house is very small so Jen works in my living room. She always leaves things neat and put away when she is done.
In addition to filing, Jen has brought me supplies and helped me archive special documents safely for long-term storage. She takes care of shredding and recycling discarded papers for me. She makes suggestions along the way to help make the rest of my house run smoothly. We worked together for a day to reclaim a basement junk room and her suggestions were practical, efficient and elegant. Unlike other organizers I have known, she rarely suggests that I buy anything.
I have found Jen to be very easy to work with on the business side. Her pricing is fair and she explains it clearly upfront. She has been clear and realistic about what she can do for what price. She has always done better than her initial estimates with me and there has been no surprises.
One of the things I have liked about most Jen is that she is able to calmly tackle what seems to be an overwhelmingly large project and break it down into manageable pieces that work for my budget and for the time I have to give to the project. She is always cheerful and seems to really love the work. It has taken a lot of the anxiety out of handing this project off to someone else; it is actually fun for me to have her in the house, happily humming and pausing to ask occasional questions as she works through massive piles of papers.
"I am confident that I did my absolute best for this client. She initially gave me a very favorable review, and when I chose to stop working with her in December, we parted ways with no hard feelings. Now, over five months later, possibly because I have stopped taking her calls, she has revised her review to be extremely negative. I'm very saddened by it. I hope that any Angie's List members reading this will give me the benefit of the doubt."
I really enjoy working with Jen. My fears when originally hiring an organizer have proved baseless. I was concerned that an organizer would be dictatorial and force me to do things or get rid of things. Jen has never done that. She continues to be supportive, making suggestions, explaining the reasoning behind her thoughts, and never forcing me to do anything I am not ready to do. I have a new house and two active boys, so Jen's services in setting things up and helping me be ready to purge as needed is invaluable. Through her gentle reminders and pushing I have been able to take steps to purge things I didn't think I was ready to let go of when we first started. It is very liberating and I still enjoy the space every time we are done with something.
