The city required replacement of the lead water line from the meter to the sidewalk. Alex was very helpful in providing a quote and explaining the scope of the work. The day of the project Declan and Jared arrived promptly and began excavating the sidewalk. They were able to replace the water line with copper and fill in the hole in about 4 hours. They will return in a few days to replace the concrete in the sidewalk. My experience with CJ Doherty was very positive.

Very well. Our existing water line ran under our front lawn, but they didn't damage the lawn at all (didn't even touch it). They dug a square hole in the sidewalk out by the street, to give them access to our existing water line where it attached to the shutoff valve from the town water main (which runs under the street). They disconnected the existing line from the shutoff valve and threaded a cable through the existing line, so the cable came out of the existing pipe into our basement. In our basement, they had a coil of new copper pipe. They hooked those things up so that the end of the cable, the end of the existing line, and the end of the new copper line were all attached to each other. Out at the sidewalk, with their excavator, they pulled on the cable from that end, so they were pulling the old line out and pulling the the new one right in behind it, leaving the new one in place of the old one. All went very smoothly. They replaced the sidewalk section.

It was very difficult work and took 2 days and 2 bulldozers. The team leader, Michael (Mickey) is an expert and thank goodness for that. They had to work in the pouring rain around an old English dry stone wall, landscaping, gas, electric, telephone, etc. After they were all done and had closed up the road, Mickey discovered that a pipe that was supposed to be copper was in fact lead, so they had to open up the whole road all over again.

They restored an old sewer system that was really, really old. They handled it very professionally and did a wonderful job. They did it quickly and came through like pros. I would absolutely use them again in the future. We shouldn't have any more trouble at that location.

CJ Doherty was easy to work with and tech friendly! When I called, I got a call back immediately and CJ was able to provide me with a general quote by looking on Google Earth at my property (didn't even need to go to the property!). I communicated with Alex over email and he was very responsive and when he called, provided me with the office number and his cell. The price was ONE THIRD cheaper than competitors and it included everything (special concrete mix required by city, police detail, permit fees, permit submission, parking permit, etc.). We set up a date and CJ Doherty took care of it with ease, even dealing with a disgruntled neighbor. I was very pleased with my interaction with CJ Doherty and would suggest them for a anyone interested in a curb cut.

A contractor that has email! What a concept. CJ came and personally did the estimate and was friendly and easy going. We got the quote on Monday, they were at work Friday. Previous contractors had given us the run around with getting permits and such and they just got it done fast.
During the job they hit a few snags that required calling in extra help. We were never charged any more for this and he held up the quoted price.
We were so happy to finally have this done and working with them was an honest pleasure.

First I need to say that although CJ Doherty did not perform the job on the sewer line, they did replace the water line to the house more than 20+ years ago.  They were so easy to work with back then, I literally spent an hour in the basement searching my old tax records because I didn't remember the name!  I was relieved to dial them up and find them presently in business.  When Alex and I first connected, he explained about how all excavation companies presently have a backlog of contracted work and that this time of the year presents a window to open up streets.  So ALL companies in this line of work are equally booked and under the gun to complete the backlog of work in the allotted time frame.  I spoke with Alex just before heading over to meet Kevin from ASAP Drains to do the camera scope and learn more specifics about the obstruction.  BTW, to their credit, both Nick and Kevin from ASAP noted the telephone pole and when the obstruction was traced right out to the side of the telephone pole, no one considered it a coincidence.  (See my review of ASAP Drains)  Alex suggested I continue making calls, but did leave me with a little hope when he said he would take a look and see if there was anything at all he could move around.  Having had CJ Doherty handle the sizable water line job, I had a strong preference for hiring them again.  We left it that I would go over to meet the scope and call Alex when I had more info, and meanwhile he would look at the schedule and see what if anything he could do.  After the scope and having better defined info, I called Alex to share the info, and was greatly relieved when Alex said he couldn't do the job on Friday, but managed to fit me in for Saturday IF I wanted to wait.  OH YES!  Alex actually left his office in Medford and came directly over to the house to have a look and then head up to City Hall to discuss the situation with the building dept.  Alex noted the telephone pole and suspected the utility company likely could be responsible.  Already I had a remarkable degree of comfort with Alex on board.  Alex left for City Hall and I headed to work.  No sooner had Alex arrived at City Hall, then I began to get incoming phone calls.  First the utility company.  Next the subcontractor for the utility company.  Lastly, the construction company hired by the subcontractor.  Things moved very quickly and the utility company assumed responsibility for the remedy.  Obviously, I had been planning to move forward with hiring the contractor and paying for this big dig II project.  Meanwhile this is a 3 family house and my tenants have not been able to use water for 2 days and one night.  The utility company scheduled the job for the very next morning.  I am so grateful to Alex and CJ Doherty for their extreme level of customer service, incredible responsiveness, knowledge, and for going the extra in squeezing me in.  Doing all in his power to rescue a damsel in distress (and her very understanding tenants).   In addition to the professionalism, Alex was friendly, confidence inspiring, very calm, and no doubt helpful in getting the utility company on board and expediting the job.  I really felt he cared and know he went out of his way to help!  He already had invested time and now the job was taken over by the utility company-a lot of folks would have been annoyed, but he was always good natured.  I can't say enough about my recent experience, and would highly recommend calling them when you have need of such services.  First  rate on every level.

We hired C J Doherty to replace decaying water main from street to basement.  Unfortunately because of ledge, the process turned out to be more difficult than anticipated.  He brought in a bigger crew and finished as promised.  His crew was very professional and polite.  They even repaired some unrelated potholes in our driveway.

CJ Doherty was extremely responsive and professional when he came over to bid for the job. We checked around and he has a great reputation in Medford, so we decided to go with him. (He had bid $3,300 to do the job, which was the middle bid.). His crew was great and they did the job in about half a day, which was faster than he had anticipated. Also, the city asked him to cover the sidewalk with asphalt instead o concrete so they could come back soon and easily dig it up to do some work on their side of the pipe. He charged us $2,400, which was $900 less than his bid. We are very happy with the work and would use him again.

Took care of everything even leaving the portion of the concrete decking we wanted to keep as a walkway. Even paid for some minimal damage to an underground sprinkler system. We would definitely use them again.

Perfect.

I no longer have to worry about getting roots trimmed in the sewer every 6 months and I have noticeably stronger water pressure.

The water main was right next to the sewer line and they couldn't remove the sewer w/o taking out the water.  CJ coordinated wit the city to do that while the trench was open and it was done w/o expense to me.  (I own the sewer from house to main, but the city owns the water from the house to the main.  Weird, but true.)  I was told of the hitch after it was all done.

Prompt and courteous service. They came when they said they would. told us ahead of time we would be without water for a few hours. When they arrived they ran bell to make sure it was okay with the water being shut off. Worked quickly and efficiently.
Would highly recommend them

After a number of false starts with other contractors, CJ was recommended to us because his company is a larger one that owns a lot of the heavy equipment required to complete a job like ours. He was not only a pleasure to deal with but extremely straightforward, honest, and responsive. He was able to get the work done relatively quickly, which was a big plus since our use of any water at all was severely limited while we waited and we risked sewage backing up in our basement on a daily basis. On top of that, he completed the work for roughly 25% less than estimated. I couldn't have been happier with the work he and his crew did and highly recommend them if you've got a heavy-duty excavation job that needs doing.
