The floors have circle marks from the edger and ripples from the unevenness of sanding. The edges were not done well and some of the baseboards were scuffed/marked. We had hired someone else earlier to do some other floors in the house, so we have a comparison.
The only issue I had was with the finish quality. In both rooms there are flaws in the polyurethane. In one room the floor has bubbles in two or three areas that popped, dried and are now permanently there as little bumpy rings on the finish. No one will notice this but me.
The team also applied a very thick coat of poly and left a puddle of poly on the floor in the kitchen which then dried smooth, but soft, so three days later when the rest of the floor was dry and we could move back in, we didn't realize the puddle was there and one of our items smeared the still semi-soft puddle of poly. Other random thick areas stuck and left marks - like the bottom of chair legs etc. In hindsight we should have let it dry for over a week.
Over time we've noticed other areas where there is no finish at all (spots under the toe-kick for example). We were in a hurry to finish everything, and they were in a hurry too, so we've just lived with it and it was still a drastic improvement to what we had before and looks nice.
They were fast, inexpensive and did what we needed in a hurry which was what we needed at the time. A for Service and promptly performing the job. C for Quality of the finish.
"We did not do this job. The member must be mistaken us with other company they hired."
Pros:
- Showed up when they said they would. They were even an hour early on day 1.
- They were very accommodating. I called on a Friday and they wanted to come Saturday morning! No waiting around with these guys. They mean business.
- They worked VERY quickly. When they I opened the door to great Tom, his crew came in right behind him with equipment. They prepped, laid, sanded, put first coat on, cleaned up, and sped off all in 3 hours. Incredible.
- They were very responsive to issues
- Very good about answering calls and returning calls
- Good price
- They let us pull up the carpet in order to save on labor cost. The downside was we had to pay to throw away the carpet at the recycling center, so not sure how much we REALLY saved by doing this.
Cons:
- They didn't clean up very well. There were large piles of sawdust all over my walkway and driveway and they left 3 trash bags of wood and sawdust behind in the driveway. They did pick the trash bags up the next day, but only after we asked them to. There were also a few nasty permanent stains on our carpet in front of the bathroom.. looks like something was stuck to the bottom of someone's shoe when they went to use the restroom.
- They were fast, but a little sloppy. They missed a few spots with the wood filler and, as a result, there are holes and voids in the floor in certain spots. They were dropping the wood so h****** our floor as they brought it in, they set off a Carbon Monoxide detector in the basement!
- They said they would fix a squeaky spot on the floor (I told Tom and he said the underlayment would take care of the squeak, one of the workers told me not to worry, he would put a few screws in the subfloor. This didn't happen and the floor still squeaks).
- The air compressor they brought in damaged our existing wood floor. There was a big swirl mark where it was sitting. they repaired this, but had to come back and buff/coat the rest of our floors to match the repaired spot with the rest of the floors. Which means we had to move furniture from the rest of of the rooms the next week.
- They put the poly on very thick. It LOOKS like there is a thick layer of high gloss poly on my floor.
- Communication wasn't so great at times. They breezed in and breezed out so quickly, we had to stop them before they drove away to ask questions like "when can I walk on the floor? When can I put furniture back? what time will you be here tomorrow to put the second coat on?"
All in all, the work was good, they were quick, the price was decent, but the customer experience left a little to be desired.
He did an excellent job and it was an excellent price. I have no complaints!
He is very punctual, very reliable, excellent quality work. He was able to come back and refinish some stairs. There was one set of stairs I didn't initially do. He charged more for that but the stairs were really, really bad and he did an exceptional job. And very clean - he didn't leave any mess!
They answered the phone the first time I called.
They were able to do the job just days later.
I think the price was good and saw good reviews on Angie's list so I didn't shop around for other prices.
The bad things:
The woman who I spoke with on the phone had good English but the guys who came to the house didn't. I have a lot of experience communicating with people who aren't fluent in Enlgish but still this guy was next to impossible for me to understand. It was a problem because I had questions about the job but couldn't understand his answers. I called the woman who I initially spoke with but she couldn't really understand my complaint because she wasn't there to see it.
They didn't provide me with a receipt and they only accepted checks.
They were to come first thing in the morning but were a little late. Wasn't a problem for me though.
They didn't ask me what kind of finish I wanted. I wrongly assumed it would match the satin finish I have on the rest of my floors. Instead, it was a glossy finish. I was going to cover most of the stair with a carpet runner so I decided to live with it.
Some of the polyurethane they applied ran or pooled a bit so there was an area that was a little discolored. I tried to explain this to the guy who did the work but, as I said, communication was very difficult.
So, it you want a job that can be done quickly and cheaply I think they are o.k.. If you want a company that is attentive to detail I'd pass.
"Our response to this feedback is that if customer was not happy with our service, they will let us know right after the job was done so any problem can be fixed then. It is not quite right to provide negative feedback four months after the service was done and service provider was not informed of the issue in the first place."
He was able to schedule the job with 3 days notice (2 medium rooms, 2 very large rooms)
His work is meticulous, fast, professional, prompt and his prices are great! The floors came out beautifully, we couldn't be more happy. There was a horrible snowstorm which started about noon time on the first day of the job, nonetheless, they kept to schedule, and came back on time on day 2 for the second coat. They put plastic up to prevent dust from going to other areas of the house, all debri was removed from the property. no complaints, I'd use him again and again!
I contacted Mr. Lee directly on a Monday. He called New Year's eve and wanted to come the next day to look at the floors. Mr. Lee promptly showed up at 7:30am. Gave me a price and his guys showed up the next day(Thursday) around 7:30am to start the work. The guys got right to work and it took around 21/2 hours. Because of the snow storm Friday I suggested they come back Monday. Mr. Lee called Saturday to confirm for Monday.
This gave me a chance to look at the work thus far. Not Bad work considering the living room floor was painted. What I did notice was the Poland spring bottle left on the entryway stairs was full of urine I did point that out to Mr. Lee on Monday. they used my toilet (seat was left up) without asking first. They weren't able to remove much paint around the radiator but, were able to sweep a lot of the dust from sanding under the radiator. When Mr. Lee and another employee showed up Monday at 7:22am they got right to work. 45 minutes and they were done. Tuesday upon close inspection I notice small particles under the polyurethane you won't notice unless you walk barefoot . Mr. Lee vacuumed but did not use a mop or microfiber towels or anything before applying the polyurethane to clean up fine particles left behind. Overall I'm satisfied. I will Mr. Lee again.
They stained andredid floors from 1870. Wide pine, fir and oak. Along with new red oak stairs.
The quality was great, floor have new high gloss finish, immaculate.
Two years later, my husband and I continue to enjoy our dark wood-stained floors. Thank's to Lee's hardwood floors.
I probably would use them again.
They were given keys to get in , worked while I was at work and were absolutely trustworthy. I was happy with the finished product and very please with the care and workmanship.
