"The handyman did a nice job, however, when dealing with payment and business, Carrie lacked professionalism and communication skills. For that reason, I will not use them again. Thank you Peter for a nice job with the door and drywall work."

"David showed up when he said, he was professional, and he helped me build a shed in my backyard. He completed it quickly and cleaned up after himself. The shed has been in use for over a year now and has not had any problems. He saved me a weekend of work in a few hours."

"Steve arrived on time and ready to work. He quickly assembled the brackets for the antenna, and affixed them to the house. Then he attached the antenna and mast. Since he had some time left, he was nice enough to help with another small project prior to leaving for the day. We had a great time talking to Steve, and have already asked him about another project in the Spring."

"Mark does the quality of work that I would do myself as a homeowner if I had the time to do the job. My bathroom renovation protect was a total bathroom remodel, where everything was demoed down to the studs and rebuilt brand new. Mark is not only and expert framer, but a detailed finish craftsman. Since Mark does 95% of the job himself, he is able to maintain tight control over product quality. Mark is already onto my next bathroom remodel/expansion project that I would expect to be done within 2 weeks. Update: 07/06/2019 Mark completed a major kitchen renovation where he removed a wall in a tiny kitchen, opening up a great room with the adjacent living room. He demoed the old and worn laminate cabinets, installed new hardwood cabinets, built an island, and installed new ceilings, floors, electrical, and panel doors in the new great room (kitchen and living room) and upper-level hallway. Mark also tied in the kitchen and living room with the installation of a shiplap wall and the building of an elegant fireplace mantle. Mark is a master craftsman who is very passionate about carpentry and creating custom looks. I have to hand it to Mark for being patient and correcting the errors of my 50-year-old house, where nothing is level, vertical, or true."

Childproofing questions, answered by experts

Yes, tamper-resistant outlets are a safe and effective way to protect children from electrical hazards. They feature a spring-loaded shutter that blocks the outlet slots when not in use, preventing a child from inserting foreign objects. While they are the safest option available, it's important to note that few things can be considered truly 'childproof.' Children may still try to imitate adults by inserting a plug, so constant supervision around any electrical device is recommended. Tamper-resistant outlets are a much safer solution than childproofing covers, which can be removed by children and may pose a choking hazard.

The average cost of childproofing services is $410. This cost can range from $190 to $630 or more, depending on the size of your home and what services you need.

The location of the childproofing additions also plays a vital role in the overall cost. For example, a bathroom is relatively small and costs about $150 to fully childproof. However, if you have a swimming pool, you could spend as much as $1,500 to $10,000 to make it entirely safe for small children, including adding a pool fence.

A professional childproofer will first survey your home to identify potentially dangerous locations, including stairs, cabinets, and pools. Once approved, your professional will order and install the safety equipment for you.

Some ways a childproofing professional will make your home safe include:

  • Anchoring large furniture

  • Installing safety gates

  • Installing safety latches on cabinets and drawers

  • Covering railings that could trap a child

  • Covering electrical outlets

  • Installing a swimming pool fence

  • Removing or covering electrical cords where possible

Yes, tamper-resistant outlets are designed to be safe for use in homes with children. They feature a spring-loaded shutter that blocks the electrical slots when not in use, which helps protect children from electric shock if they try to insert an object. While they are the safest option available and highly effective, it's important to note that few things are truly 'childproof.' Children may still try to imitate adults by inserting a plug. For this reason, it's best to use tamper-resistant outlets over less effective solutions like plastic covers, which can be removed or pose a choking hazard. Always supervise young children around any electrical outlets or devices.

The best time to hire a childproofing professional is at least three months before your due date. Although it might seem early, proper childproofing takes time, especially if you need extensive services like a pool fence. Getting your house ready now before your child is on the go only helps to protect them at all stages of life.
