The initial work of completing an engineering plan was done successfully, despite some slow response times from the assigned engineer. I ran into issues with the engineer upon the construction phase. The contractor said he found some issues with the plan and was calling the engineer with questions, perhaps too much. The engineer called me to complain and insisted on charging another $2000 to supervise the construction phase, nearly doubling the engineering expense that we already paid. I balked at this extra cost, and the engineer called me "Obama" and asked me who was going to pay. I really had no idea how to respond to this, assuming it was meant as an insult that I didn't quite understand. The engineer was very professional during the design phase but the construction phase was exceptionally concerning to me. I had to hire a different engineer to supervise the construction phase, who charged considerably less and was less argumentative.
