Apartments
I am absolutely disgusted with the management of this apartment complex, Royal Crest Estates-Marlboro in Marlboro, MA. I lived in this apartment complex for 9.5
months after moving from NJ to MA while shopping for a house. We
continued to pay our rent as per the
terms of our lease after we moved into our house. During our move out
inspection, the only thing that the Royal Crest Estates inspector could complain about
was a minor stain on the carpet in the dining room which we think was
pre-existing anyways. The inspector told my wife that we would be
billed NO MORE THAN $100 to have the carpets steam cleaned which would
be deducted from our $650 security deposit. Four days later, we were
billed $1092 from this apartment complex after they kept our security
deposit as they decided to renovate the apartment (changing all of the
carpets) at our expense and then they made up some ridiculous story
after the fact about damage to the kitchen linoleum. (The carpets in
our apartment were not new when we moved in anyways.) I wish someone
would have told me last year to avoid this company (AIMCO) like the
plague. I am in the process of filing a complaint against AIMCO with
the Massachusetts Office of the Attorney General as I believe the
practice of coercing former tenants to pay for apartment renovations (amounting to ~$1700 in our case)
with the threat of being reported to a collections agency is highly
exploitative.
