The warehouse had a huge selection, and I liked that I could go in and look at all the big slabs to choose myself. The final result is fine but, it was like pulling teeth to get things done. The cuts were done fine and the measurements were good, no complaint there. They were slow and the granite piece I wanted had a crack so they didn't want to put it on. I had to keep talking to them to get what I wanted and ask them to just cut around the crack.

The woman, Carol, who worked in the store then was lovely. She was tremendously helpful and easy to deal with. The problems started upon installation - nothing went right - marble had to be removed and re-installed in 3 locations, they couldn't fit normal sized sinks into some bathrooms, and more problems. The installers were rude and condescending. Then the owner, Dante, showed up. He made the situation worse, accusing me of being the problem (I wasn't the one who measured, now was I??). He handed me an envelope with a number on it instead of a bill. I finally told him to get out of my house, and called the marble company I used in Boston.
What prompted the review now in 2014 is the fact that my kitchen sink fell off the marble this week! My contractor & plumber said they've never seen a sink installed worse in their careers.
AVOID D&M - they should be closed down!

They have an unbelievable warehouse with the most beautiful marble that you could possibly see. It’s just gorgeous. The showroom isn’t much when you go in there, but they will get you into the warehouse if you are looking for something special. They are very nice people and very reasonably priced. Dante is a great guy. I have recommended them to other people. I just really like doing business with them. I like small companies where the owner takes pride in what they do and cares, and that you’re dealing with someone who is willing to explain and tell you the pros and cons of everything. They do it all the time.

This place looks really great. There is a large selection and you can go into the back and see the slabs of granite they will use. They do the fabrication on site and the price is fair.Sounds good!
Yeah. Then the fun began. I ordered a granite countertop from them. Dante forgot he was scheduled to come to measure. After 3 phone calls to the store I finally got him over to measure. These were all on the same day. Each time I called the employee answering sounded genuinely surprised there was something on the schedule. Dante measured the countertop and kitchen and foyer floors. He also took a 50% deposit on the countertop.I waited. Finally called about 1 wk later to get the estimate on the floors. Dante forgot which tiles I had picked out and they had me come back to the store to show them again. Dante said the countertop was ready. Brought me to the fabrication center to show me and then mentioned something about setting up a delivery time tomorrow. Then he waved me off because there was some business he needed to attend to in the office. I thought I was going to hear from them about delivery and what I needed to do to get the area ready for them--having a gas stove and all. Noooo, they showed up the next day with the countertop! I wasn't there because I wasn't expecting them. So, I got the information I needed to prepare and rescheduled. They showed up on time, took out my countertop and put on the new one. It didn't fit! It looked great but the sink was at least 2 inches away from the sink cutout! And the granite made its turn 2 inches after the base leaving the cabinet and its contents exposed! Now, here I am, 2 wks before Thanksgiving with no stove, no sink, and no countertop! They gave me the option of trying to make it fit using an extra seam near the sink and probably give me some kind of discount; or, I could reorder and wait a few more days. I opted to get my money back and get out. Oh yes, and I never did get the estimate for the floor. Stay far, far away from this group.

These guys are in a sweet spot. We live 30 minutes from Boston but found this was more than worth the trip (or 2-3 trips) to Marlborough to get what we wanted and get it done affordable. These guys are definitely more affordable and accessible than some of the marble/granite showrooms closer to the city, also more affordable than most tile shops that, in turn, source from some of the more local yards. Recent example, we might need to replace some marble tile in another bath: a home improvement store carries such low-grade marble I couldn't find a box that didn't have major flaws; a moderately priced local tile store (not top of the market) quoted $18.99 SF; and these guys have same, beautiful tiles for $11.99 SF. Their strongest suit: I felt like they knew us and what we wanted. We met several times with Dante, one of the main contacts (owner?) and remembered us each time. He also "knows" stone -- I couldn't believe that after seeing one floor tile of the tone/color/movement I liked in Carrera marble that he could remember it and match it over the 2-3 weeks it took to track down a remnant (big cost savings for us v. buying a whole slab). We felt taken care of. Their weakest suit is a detailed, minor complaint. We have a 45-degree corner in our kitchen where we installed the cooktop and I wanted a shallow shelf behind the cooktop. Somehow, between the wall, the shelf, the cooktop and the "lip" of the granite along the counter's edge, something was off by maybe 1/2" where the cooktop looked crooked. It was probably the wall's fault, so to speak, if it was not a perfect 45-degrees. Still, despite the short-lived disappointment, the installers were back and made a few adjustments so you'd never know it was a bit "off." I should point out that we were referred here by our general contractor, so I assume some of the TLC we received was due to that relationship (certainly our GC kept everyone on schedule, etc.) However, if nothing else, I know they can do a great job and save you money so check it out for yourself. A bit more info from their card since I have it handy (I noticed the listing was scant and had a slightly different address): Dante Mallegni Paul Grupposo D & M Marble & Tile Inc. 890 Boston Post Road Marlborough, MA 01752 508-460-9032 phone 508-624-9708 fax "Sales & Service, Wholesale Marble, Granite & Ceramic Tile, Custom Marble & Granite Slab Fabricating" "Free estimates, Fully insured"

D & M did a very good job and exceeded my expectations of them. We are very pleased with the way our countertops and floors look as all the grout lines are even. They also did a good job on the corners and tile cuts.
