Exterior Painting
$120
We moved into a new home in October 2011 and found all the paint and trim on the front of the house to be bubbling, peeling and flaking off in sheets. After examining the house and consulting with other painters, it became clear that 1) they had not primed the siding prior to painting, 2) they had not applied the usual number of coats, 3) they had left a fine sheen of paint splatter over all of the windows which would have to be scraped off by hand, and 4) that the whole front of the house where there was peeling had not been prepared adequately at all. The previous owner told us that the entire house had been painted in April 2010, so less than 1.5 years before. He gave us the contact info for the company they had used (USA Painting and Cleaning of Nashua, NH) and said that Schineider (the owner of the painting company, who seems to go by one name) should provide the labor the scrape and repaint if we would buy the paint. My guess is that he worked out this plan with Schineider himself after seeing what happened, but then never followed through once they decided to sell the house.

We made several attempts (about 8, total) to contact Schineider via phone and email. We asked him to stand by his work and come fix what had not been done correctly. He was very unprofessional and defensive, blaming it on the fact that the siding was old. This seemed ridiculous - this area is filled with much older houses whose paint seems to be holding up just fine (other painters we spoke to concurred). We spoke to him three separate times when he agreed to come and said he would call back to schedule - which he never did. Finally, after more phone calls, we were able to schedule a date when he would send two workers to do the work. He originally said that it would take two days of work, but then only had one day to free up workers so he said he would have them try to do it in one day. He had pushed us back to December by the point and it was getting too cold for exterior painting so we just accepted. Then, day the workers arrived they said they had to be at another job that afternoon and therefore would only be able to work 5 hours.

The painters were nice and worked hard during those hours, but the result was one thin coat of paint, lots of bumpy patches of half-scraped old paint (with a thin cover of new paint) and a shower of paint chips covering the ground and bushes in the front of the house. Upon leaving they said that we would need to work out any further work with Schineider. By this point we were frustrated and realized that Schineider was very unlikely to follow through or stand by his work.

Overall poor quality work and unprofessional behavior. Avoid this company.
