We are a Third Generation Plastering Company based on Boston's North shore. We are a Professional, Responsible and hard working team. We strive to provide a top quality service and product to our customers. Quality of product and Cleanliness are very important to us, that means every work area is covered and then cleaned after. We offer all types of Plastering services from the historic replication of old horse hair to the newer blue board and plaster skimcoat. We also have expertise in exterior Stucco Plastering. The crew is mostly from Ireland, where we learned our Trade and had knowlege passed down from our Grandfather Michael "The Major" Tolan, to his Son Martin James Tolan who is still operating in Dublin, Ireland. Interesting projects we have done include replicating and repairing timber fluted columns using masonary products so they can withstand New Englands tough climate, in Lynnfield. Replicating the Hull of a boat onto the ceiling of a residence in Marblehead. Rounding walls, repairing old plaster Crown Moldings, replicating a wood molding in plaster in order to provide a non flammable material to decorate a fire mantel in Ipswich Creating an Infinity Dome ceiling replicating the Dome in St.Peters Cathedral, at a residence in Salem. Replicating old historic plaster work in many homes in Ipswich. We have been featured in 2 TV shows, the latest in 2012 on 2 episodes of the show 'Flipping Boston'. Steve and his crew were fantastic. We have 2 young children. They were mindful of noise and sealed off all areas. When Job was complete they cleaned everything meticulously. I plan on referring them to anyone in need of drywall, plaster work.

We had damage to our kitchen ceiling from a water leak in an upstairs bathroom. This is an old house and the ceilings are all done in a swirl design. Steve came out promptly to assess the damage and recommended patching the area rather than re-plastering the entire ceiling, something I was unsure he would be able to do due to the swirl patterns of the original ceiling. We appreciated his attempt to save us money which was supported by the fact that the patching job he did is indistinguishable from the original work. Despite the fact that this was a very small job Steve and his crew were responsive and professional. Steve gave an accurate assessment of his work load and approximate schedule and re-contacted us exactly as promised. His crew were very professional, our kitchen and house were left as clean as when they entered. I highly recommend Steve's services.

Steve was responsive and quick with returning phone calls and providing quote. He was flexible with timing as we needed electrical work done before plastering.  His guys showed up promptly.  They were pleasant and professional.  They worked quickly with minimal intrusion in our house.  They did a good job cleaning up after the work was completed.

This job involved installing sheet rock and doing plastering on a number of small opening in the walls around doorways, windows and ceilings. Altogether there were about 12 small openings that needed work background: We had new windows installed and changed the sizes of some of the windows. To keep things simple with the contractor who did the windows we asked him to only quote the window replacement, and let us contract the finish work. Because three windows changed size, there were small sections that needed wall board installed. We also had had some rework done to run a natural gas line that required cutting holes in wall board for access. We asked Steve's company to finish these sections. Some of the rooms had a rough, irregular plaster finish, so Steve had to match these sections. Steve had a crew of 3 guys do all of this work in one day. They also did some minor plaster repair at no charge. They spread dust cloths where they worked and walked, and cleaned up when they were done. They did a great job, and everyone on the crew was very personable and responsible.

Mr. Tolan came and assessed the damage, provided several options, and immediately did the work required.  We selected the type of plastering that would work best, applying a plastic netting over the original wall to minimize dust and debris, then putting a rough and finish coating on the wall and ceiling.  The two-man crew was very efficient and pleasant to work with.  After the work was done they cleaned up the prep area and work area completely.  Steve Tolan, president of the company came by and reviewed the work to make sure that everything was satisfactory and provided instructions on how to prepare area for painting.  Overall, they were very professional in their execution and very pleasant with whom to work.

Steve and his crew arrived promptly as scheduled, prepped the entire house, and worked quickly and efficiently.  They did a professional job with great results, and actually finished ahead of the quoted time.  Steve even responded personally a few days later, on the same-day that I called by coming back to the house to re-coat an area of the ceiling that he had warned me ahead of time would be particularly problematic.  Since that final touch-up, we could not be more pleased with the end product.  This was a great job for the price, and you can tell Steve takes pride in his work--as he should.

Steve and his crew of Paul and Keith were totally professional.  During the initial evaluation Steve took his time and explained every aspect of the job and answered all of our questions.  We had two other evaluations, but Steve's professionalism and price sold us.  One estimate was $900 higher then Steve's.  The job was began on the Monday super storm Sandy was starting.  Steve with his good sense had his crew only work Monday morning, they worked a full day Tuesday and completed the job Wednesday morning.  The quality of the work was excellent.  My wife and I painted the ceiling and walls and they came out as smooth as glass.  When my contractor returned to install the kitchen cabinets he noticed the high quality of the plastering job performed by Steve Tolan and his crew.  I would definitely recommend Steve for any of your plastering jobs.  When talking to Steve he mentioned how he enjoyed the challenge of working on older and historic homes and matching the plaster in those homes.

Steve answered my call right away. He came over to my house and gave me a very good estimate to complete the whole job from start to finish. He also included some work that the other contractors did not notice had to be done to do the job right the first time. He knows his trade really well. He came highly recommended, and I can see why now. He came in with his crew right on time. They did all the work better than we could have imagined. They cleaned up very nicely after too. It is a very messy trade, but they left things better than when they came in. They also made sure everything was covered properly. We did not have to do any cleaning afterwards.The quality of their work is great. I watched them progress through the project, and they did not take any shortcuts. Something that a lot of others will do to cut corners and save time. Steve did everything he said he was going to do, and they did it really well. I won't see any cracks appear later, that's for sure.I had a very good experience from start to finish with Steve Tolan Plastering. I highly recommend his company and crew.
