We know Scott for about 16 years, doing all kinds of jobs in our house. Like Re-decorating our Kitchens, Bathrooms, Driveways, Landscaping. He always does High quality job with reasonable costs. We value Scott's work tremendously, so we keep asking for his help anytime we need for our Home.
I was extremely surprised by the quality of work given the amazing reviews on this site. It wasn't until the work was done and I looked back that I realized that the positive reviews were for his subcontractors and the majority of the negative reviews related specifically to his work.
Bottom line- this company apparently does amazing work so long as the work is preformed by subcontractors. Again, Scott was super nice but I was not at all impressed by the quality of his work.
Additionally, Mr. Guild's sub-contracted electrician wired our upstairs incorrectly. I had a 220 line installed in one room and 110s in all the other rooms. He mistakenly installed a 220 in a second room, then covered it w/ a 110 switch plate. We blew out a shop vac and a box fan before we figured out what the problem was. The electrician did come back and repair the job. It's unfortunate that Mr. Guild's social skills get in the way of his business. Had it not been for the mail incident, we would have hired him again.
After agreeing upon Scott and John started work and finished significant amount of demolition followed by construction in first two weeks. At this point the work was halted due to missing calculation of LVL beam and was resumed after 4 weeks after the inspection by town home inspector. Our only gripe is about this lost time this should have been anticipated and work should have been scheduled accordingly.
Once the LVL inspection was done rest of the work was done in about two weeks that included wiring/plumbing (subcontractor)
floor installation(5' by 4'), stair railing installation and two windows installation.
Scott and John are very knowledgeable about general contracting.
Scott was very responsive and always returned calls on time.
Quality of work was quite good and price was very reasonable.
Most important of all, during this work was going on I was working other part of home and their advise on lot of things was invaluable for me being first time home owner.
Over all this was very positive experience and will hire them again for future work.
Scott returned my call promptly and when he came over he went over the various aspects of the project and we felt at ease with him. He spent a lot of time and took detailed measurements and gave us an estimate that was broken down into reasonable tasks and sub-tasks. Scott worked with us to figure out how to make the project fall within our budget. Plus, he worked with us in adding and removing the tasks that we wanted others (painting, carpeting) to do for us instead.
Scott is hardworking and efficient. Scott's colleague John is also a great worker. They were punctual and I could call them pretty much anytime and they returned calls promptly. Both Scott and John worked diligently on the project. We had to get this project done by a certain time since we were going to have guests over and they made sure that the project got done before that.
They were friendly, courteous and we had conversations with them about a lot of different things. It was interesting to find that they are multi-talented and have several other interests and hobbies (Scott flies planes, keeps bees .. while John has been trained as a musician!). John also fixed strings of my daughter's guitar!
I highly recommend them and their services.
Upon arriving for the job, the company acted very professional and helpful at first. However, we had many delays for no apparent reason; the job took over three weeks. His electrical sub-contractor also shut off A/C in attic for some reason. Once it got hot, I hired an A/C company to fix my air conditioning. As it turned out, he was only able to tell me that the switch was shut off. It cost me an additional $212 just to find out that the electrician had turned off a switch. At one point it even seemed that Guild Construction no longer wanted to do the job; they hardly ever showed up to do the work.
When the work was finally finished, they sent me a bill for around $1,100. I sent in the payment for the difference and attached the coupon I had purchased from Angie's List. He called me and told me that I had cheated him and under paid him. He is now telling me that he will not accept the offer that I had already paid for.
Prior to him calling me and telling me that he would not honor the deal, I had given him a B grade with Angie's List. Now, I am revising my my review to reflect his disrespectful and fraudlent attempts to overcharge me by not honoring the previous deal.
Overall, Scott was responsive with any questions or concerns we asked, and was willing to discuss different alternatives. Anything additional that we asked him to do, he didn't hesitate to comply, and his quotes came in right where he told us they would be. We are very happy with our new kitchen.
