"Thank you and you were a pleasure to work with as well."
"Thanks, [Member Name Removed] It has been a pleasure to work for you as well. Rich Mathews"
When my go-to person did not call me back, I started searching for someone to replace my water heater. Based on previous reviews, this company became my first choice and I was hopeful that this could be done the same day - and it was!
Rich answered his phone, called me back when he said he would, and even gave me a quote during the initial call. He came over later in the day and completed the job. I immediately got the sense that he knew his stuff and had no doubt that the job would be done correctly. He is professional, personable and meticulous - he even took care of a few things that he felt should have been better during the previous installation. I also received a follow up call - don't see that too often!
I would have no hesitation to recommend Rich Mathews & Son
Rich was a huge help and his guidance saved us a bundle! He was friendly and sincerely wanted to help me. Needless to say, I'll be calling him next time I need help!
Rich did an outstanding job installing my new Burnham ESC boiler and I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a top notch, experienced plumber who provides high quality craftsmanship and great customer service at a good price. Rich is extremely professional and clearly takes a great deal of pride in his work (it really is meticulous). You also couldn't ask for a nicer guy to work with.
He kept me well informed throughout the project, and went above and beyond by identifying and fixing a pre-existing issue with my old plumbing that could have cost me a lot of money down the road. He also went through the extra effort of managing the project so I could continue to use my old boiler system as he was building the new one (which I appreciate was a lot of extra work on his end). Overall I am extremely satisfied with the work he did for me, and I wouldn?t hesitate to call him for any future projects.
We called several plumbers, and a few even came by, but most of them fell off the map or didn't follow through with written quotes. When we called Rich, he was extremely busy, doing work in several towns far apart from each other, but he heard our situation and said he would see what he could do for us to get our MassSave rebate in before the deadline in a few weeks. He came by, had a portfolio of his work for us to see, looked at our old set up, and after he left had a reasonable written quote mailed to us in three or four days just like he said he would. He went out of his way for us, arriving early in the morning, working around other jobs - and once even coming over on a Sunday. He was always pleasant, even in the face of challenging tasks on the job (we had an ancient gravity-fed system with pipes that wouldn't budge) and his attitude was always that he was going to do whatever it took to get the job done. He was innovative in crimping new feed and return pipes to the old monsters that would not move and had to be cut. Our old boiler was a Bryant and over 50 years old - it fell apart as rust in his hands when he removed it. He flushed the system several times, and made sure we saw the clarity of the water running throughout the new system after he rebuilt our new Burnham Alpine. He installed the intake and exhaust pipes to the exterior -- no small feat on a stucco house -- and even did a quality patch job on the exterior. The water heater was a snap in comparison, he popped that out in a day and had us up and running. When he was finished, he had both the inspector AND a Burnham rep come over in a very timely schedule. He always kept us in the loop, checking in the day before to see if his timing was going to work for us, and the first morning he even arrived with almond scones that have made us seriously consider driving out to Lynnfield just to find them again. Did we have lower quotes? Yes, from plumbers we never heard from again - and the labor that was put into crimping the new feed and return pipes was likely why.
He was courteous and warm to the point of charming, with a great sense of humor. He made sure the basement was clean every time before he left, and he always made sure we understood what he was doing, and the function of all the valves once the new system was complete.
Even now that the job is finished, he said to check back in with him for any fine tuning, so we feel like he is still very accessible and has our back if we need him.
Rich is a true craftsman and cares not only about the quality of his work and the systems that he installs, but also about his customers, treating their home with the care and consideration that he would his own.
I enthusiastically recommend Rich.
Rich Matthews installed a furnace and hot water tank in my home about 5 years ago. At the time my old one crashed it was the dead of winter and we were in an unusually cold streak here in the Boston area. We had no heat and didn't know any plumbers so we started looking on line. Rich Matthews immediately called us back and that night came to our house with about half a dozen space heaters, BEFORE we even agreed to hire him. He was so professional and friendly he put us at ease and assured us he could get us heat quickly. We kw from searching that his pricing was very fair. Our boiler room has low access and needs special size boiler. He worked very hard to acquire one super fast. Him and his son put off other jobs and took care of installing our system due to our situation. The Nahant plumbing inspector said his work was very professional and knew before he even came to inspect that it would be done perfectly and it was.
Fast Forward 5 years, I had lost touch with Rich Matthews, but the other day we had no hot water, the boiler would not start. I called his number which he had left on the tank. He answered immediately, remember me and said he would come by that afternoon. Of course he showed up right on time, unloaded all his tools and we went to the boiler area in my basement. It took him 5 minutes to realize, the stupid homeowner (my words:) somehow shut off the master switch up stairs while painting. I apologized for my stupidity and asked him what I owe, he said nothing. I said please take something for coming all the way out here, He said, "don't insult me, you are my customer, I take care of my customers". Who says that these days?
I think us homeowners are all looking for the same thing, a fair price, professional service and a friendly person to deal with. If you need plumbing services Rich Matthews and Sons meets those requirements hands down.
