GAFFNEY'S CLEANING & CHIMNEY CLEANING

Jim Gaffney showed up on time and gave me a detailed explanation of what he would do and the price for the service, which I thought was reasonable. When done, he pointed out issues that I should address and gave me a couple of referrals for me to follow up on. I was very happy.

He did a beautiful job and left everything extremely clean, which was very nice. He is superior. I would give him "A+ 1/2" He told me the cost in advance but if he ran into anything extra he would let me know. Nothing came up and price was $175.

It was great! I called on Thursday thinking I would need to wait a couple weeks but he had time on Monday morning. I mentioned I have to work and he said "no problem, I can be there at 7AM!" He was there right on time and immediately set to work. He explained everything he was doing and appeared knowledgeable and thorough even taking the time to have me run my dryer to make sure it was venting properly. I feared this extra inspection would result in an "oh dear, we have to do some extra costly work" but he said everything was ship shape and the cost was what he had quoted. Highly recommended!

I got the info on Gaffney's Chimney service from Angie's list.  Mr.Gaffney  showed up on time. Was very professiional, did a great job at a resonable price. What more can you say. I would absolutely recommend him, and use him again.

Jim was very kind, but I was unhappy with the service. I called Jim on a Thursday and told him I needed to get my chimney cleaned at the request of my insurance company. I asked him if he was licensed and insured as I would need to provide an invoice of service to my insurance company. He told me he was. I set an appointment with him for that SUNDAY. I get home from work on Friday (the day after we talked) and he called me around 6pm. He told me that he had come out to my house earlier that day and walked around the outside of my house, took pictures, got a ladder and went up on the roof and swept the chimney from the outside. I was livid! Our appointment was on SUNDAY and without a phone call and certainly no permission, he showed up at my house 2 days early and does work on my house while I was not home. This surpasses unprofessional. He had no right to be on my property - yet alone on my roof, without my permission outside of our appointment time. As upset as I was, I figured he provided me with a service and it would be easiest if I just let him finish and be done with the mess. He showed up that Sunday and finished the job. When I gave him a check, I told him that his license number needed to be on the invoice. He then told me he was not licensed, only insured. So that meant he lied to me when we first spoke. While Jim was very nice, I would not hire him not recommend him to anyone.

He was great, I would recommend him to anyone, which I did.  Will keep using him as long as he is in business.

Mr. Gaffney was efficient and tidy, leaving a clean fireplace and hearth. I appreciated that he put a dropcloth down as he entered the house in addition to protecting the rug near the fireplace. We will definitely use his services in the future and refer others to him.

Works solo, so some of the jobs I asked if he would look at aren't things he does (repointing mortar on old chimney on a tall old house) but recommended someone who could.  

came 2 hrs. early. didn't call first to say he was coming early.  doesn't like leaving messages on machines. couldn't reschedule later.  kept going in and out of the house -  said set-up was taking a while.  i didn't press for details. but since he fixed the flue door, it closes completely now. mortared the right and left sides.  and he did all the work in 1 hr. (he'd quoted 1 1/2 hrs.) charged only $200.  a straight shooter, a little rough around the edges but i can deal with someone  like that who does good work.

This is the second time we used Gaffney cleaning, we purchased the house last October and had the flue for the heating and hot water system inspected before moving in. This time we had a horrible smell when using the air conditioner that appeared to be coming from the replace. Mr. Gaffney pulled out the gas fireplace insert to discover that the fireplace was not cleaned before the insert was installed and there was a large pile of soot which was the source of the smell. Jim cleaned the chimney, fixed some loose bricks, and added a cap over all three flues (giving us a credit for the one he installed in October). He was very careful to ensure that he did not make a mess in the house. I would highly recommend his service to anyone in need of expert chimney service and repairs.

Mr. Gaffney came on a Saturday morning to look at our furnaces, water heaters, and the chimney in the cellar.  After looking things over, he explained the folly of fixing the chimney as it is old and the  mortar is weak. He said with new systems, we could bypass the chimney, (which he estimates to be 60 ft high and very expensive to fix) and both conserve on fuel as well as increase the value of the property. I was very impressed with his knowledge and thoroughness, and would highly recommend him to anyone who needs this kind of service.

Mr. Gaffney called me back soon after I left a message for him.  We agreed on a time for him to come out to the house, and he showed up early and was able to do the job right then and there.
Mr. Gaffney was very knowledgable about his work and had a good sense of humor.
He cleaned out all of the junk that had accumulated at the bottom of the un-capped chimney over the course of about 80 years.  He then removed a large squirrel's nest which was sitting on top of all the dirt and debris that had blown into the chimney.
He then attached a new clean-out valve to the chimney.
He did all of this in about 1 hour and for a VERY reasonable price.  I would absolutely call him again.

I have been a homeowner for twenty two years and I first used Mr. Gaffney's services to repair one of the fireplace dampers in July 1993.   Every service since that time, I have always been very impressed by his thorough assessment of the house and I have always felt much safer knowing that he has reviewed and evaluated my home.   I would not want any other Chimney Sweep servicing my home.

Mr. Gaffney has always performed a very thorough inspection, ensured that I have the appropriate safety devices (smoke and carbon dioxide detectors and they are located correctly.    

He is very prompt, provides an explanation of how the mechanicals work and he is extremely neat.  

On my street, Mr. Gaffney is the Chimney Sweep of choice.  I would highly recommend his service and for safety sake don't delay in ensuring that your chimney is ready and in good order for the first fire of the season!

Mr. Gaffney is amazing. Our carbon monoxide detected alerted us to the fact that our chimney was blocked. We hadn't had it cleaned out in years. The oil burner service company recommended Mr. Gaffney. He arrived promptly and after determining the problem, he spent a lot of time with us explaining the issues with our chimney. He then cleaned it, installed a new door on the side to replace the old broken one, and installed a nice cap at the top. We were extremely impressed with his professionalism. He takes great pride in the quality of his work. He was a pleasure to deal with, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Mr. Gaffney to anyone needing these services.

We enjoyed having Mr. Gaffney come to our house.  He was personable, very knowledgeable, and very efficient.  It's not every day you have a John Wayne look-alike come to sweep your chimney!  He noticed an issue with our basement flue that he was able to fix - making our family safer.  We would definitely recommend.
