I liked Bill from the start. He's got to be the nicest, most honest and hard-working guy in this industry - sometimes even working through the weekend! I knew he was extraordinarily busy and that he wouldn't do the work the next day and that was fine. None of what I needed was urgent. But once he committed to coming, he was at my door at 7 am sharp, expecting to spend the day.
He worked non-stop until 2 pm or so on the first day. He opened my damaged wall to discover that 4 months after the ice dam damage, it was still damp. So he told me he'd have to let it dry out, and he'd return another day to add the new insulation and close it up. For the shower stall, he recommended tiles, prepped the walls for that purpose, and gave me the name of a person to do the tile work. For the basement ceiling, he prepared several tricky holes to receive the plaster and would have done additional work in the invisible closet, had I requested it. For the garage ceiling, he prepped that as well.
He returned a second day promptly at 7 am to apply the insulation and the plaster and was done around lunch time. He matched the new plaster to the original garage ceiling seamlessly.
He clearly knows and loves his work, is very detail-oriented and meticulous. He vacuumed all debris up, leaving no mess whatsoever. He has plenty of good stories too, including not to believe everything you see in writing. But this story is true!
I was in the midst of a contractor/carpenter kitchen remodel nightmare. The carpenters installed my cabinets and left holes under the cabinets, throughout the walls, under the casement window, over the stove etc. Mr. Telford responded to me immediately and came to my home two days later to plaster just in time for the countertop to be installed. I insisted on a plasterer, which should have been done before installing the cabinets, and the contractor said his plasterer was not available. I immediately went to Angie's LIst, which is what I should have done when starting this project, and Mr. Telford responded. I will never get a contractor again and I will call Mr. Telford again.
Bill is also a very nice guy. I would definitely hire him again.
We had a number of small issues scattered around our home for bill to address, resulting from common updates and repairs typical of an older home, which resulted in these issues. Removing old kitchen cabinets which hung from the ceiling left uneven, damaged plaster on the textured ceiling above the new cabinets. Upgrading a set of pull down attic stairs caused a crack in the ceiling plaster near the corner of the stair frame. Installing large hooks in a bedroom ceiling to hold heavy curtains on ceiling mounted rods, and to hold pendant lighting left large holes. All these required repair and blending with the existing textured ceilings in those rooms.
We'd replaced a broken sill-c*** for an exterior faucet, which required removal of a 6and quot;x12and quot; section of drywall, and replaced two aluminum, over sized sliding doors, one above the other, with much heavier oak-framed thermal doors, and replaced the header above the lower door to accommodate the increased load. This cracked the plaster in the drywall seam above the downstairs door. And, a previous owner converted an upstairs closet into a laundry area, connecting to the plumbing that served the bathroom behind an adjoining wall. At the time, the large openings cut into the drywall to work with the plumbing were left open, and hidden with a vanity in the bathroom, and by the washer/dryer. These allowed noise, odors, and drafts between the rooms, within the wall around the pipes to the attic and the bathroom below. This was probably the toughest job, as the drywall had just been and quot;punchedand quot; out in the bathroom wall, leaving uneven, ragged edges, and the sides of the openings were not near the studs, so it required strapping to be installed for the drywall to anchor to. With all the areas cut and open around the plumbing, which ran up the wall to the sink and washer on the outside of the walls, it was like piecing together a jigsaw. Both spaces were also small areas, and difficult to work in -. inside the vanity cabinet under the sink, and under the shelving behind the washer and dryer.
When Bill arrived, he immediately set down covers everywhere to protect my carpet and floor, both in the work areas and inside the front door, so he wouldn't track sand, salt and snow in as he went in and out to his truck. He tackled the walls first, doing the necessary and quot;dry workand quot; first. Once all the areas were prepped, he mixed and applied the plaster, explaining that it was best to do all the plastering at once, so that the plaster wouldn't dry out between areas to be done. Once these areas were done, he moved onto the ceiling repairs, again, doing all the prep first, then mixing the textured plaster and hitting all the areas at once.
He was very neat, and constantly cleaned as he went. He brought his own vacuum with a HEPA filter (I use the same one at home), carefully getting all the dust and crumbs of plaster that resulted from the work, and was very careful of things in our kitchen, on our walls, etc. carefully moving or covering items that might get dusty or knocked over.
When Bill was done - the work took about 6 hours - faster than we'd expected. After cleaning up, he informed me that it was going to be LESS than his estimate - only $340. He did a great job blending the ceiling repairs into the original texture, and the walls are smooth and even. Everything looks great, after a coat of paint, you can't even tell that repairs were done. I didn't have to vacuum or dust the work areas at all afterwards - he left things spotless.
We will definitely call Bill if we ever need any other plastering work done, and will recommend him to everyone we know.
